just watched his 9 club. heartbreaking.

also i timestamped "skateboardings black swan" for you here:

https://youtu.be/S1pgAO1wFjQ?si=f6bIj39l5EcirYaL&t=83
[close]

I was just recommended a video from the Nine Club and I thought they were going to do an MJ tribute but they were talking shoes with Ellington. How about stop with the videos and put something together to address the loss. So disappointing.

Their best friend and teammate just died. They don't owe you shit

Seriously. Wtf is wrong with people. I just saw a shredder news post saying; MC, Girl and Chocolate still silent after the skateboard world grieves. Or something along those lines. That’s super low, even for them. Fuck anyone thinking they’re owed any type of immediate response from those who were or still were close with him leading up to his death.
[close]

I doubt very much that Mike Carrol was close with Marc before his death. He did everything to destroy the dude's career and now rides for the very same corporation that Marc "betrayed" him with. I don't like Mike Carrol very much anymore.
I should have worded that differently. I wasn’t implying that they, or anyone else, were still close but that they once were. Anyway I’m gonna take that guys advice above and not delve into that any further. Respect to all those who are hit hard with this. Truly devastating loss to the skateboarding world

I’ve been at a low myself for 1.5 years. It’s not getting better. I can’t believe he’s gone. He his skateboarding was beautiful, he made it, living as a pro skater, and being a father.

I know it's Marc's thread and we shouldn't dilute it, at least out of respect, but I still can't help but to think that living are our priority.

Anyway, if you're struggling in any way, lazer, feel free to drop a line, hit me up in the PMs. I've been through it, maybe I can help. Even if I can't help or relate directly - you're not alone.

Reast easy, MJ.

Chi suda, chi lotta, chi mangia una volta,
Chi gli manca la casa, chi vive da solo,
Chi trova scontato, chi come ha trovato...

I don't think I've had anybody influence me more in life than Marc. He helped form my taste in music, art ,clothing , skateboarding and humor. Thank you for everything you did to make me who I am today. We will never forget you, never!
[close]

Thats super sick that he influenced you that much. He truly was an artist. His parts are perfect and he always had the best songs. I remember first becoming aware of Marc through the A-team ads, w Gershon, Rodney and Daewon. Also those early enjoi ads are legendary. My homie came up to me at workthis morning and told me the news.i was super busy(I run a photo printing machines and we had just gotten a drop off), and I was like what? Who? Like I cldnt process it. Then I put on his fully flared part and almost cried while running the.machines. Im home now, just smoked and am.watching Marc's parts. Im trying to not cry now. Such incredible style on top of being so tech/ahead of his time. We lost an amazing one guys.

RIP to the legend Marc Johnson

My intro to Marc was Uno at age 11 so his influence got to me pretty early. I bought a copy of the first Tiltmode video just to watch his part when it dropped. I must have watched that video a thousand times. I remember wanting one of his Maple boards with the stencil looking art graphic so bad but not a single shop near me carried Maple. His first Lakai shoe is still one of my favourite shoes ive ever skated. I wore Campus ST's religiously for a bit because of Marc. I was a Dylan kid but for MJ, I definetly emulated him in my teens. I was really hoping for a comeback  :'(

Another thing on Jaded…

Throughout that video so many people are wearing both of the MJ Emericas. I remember wanting the 1s so bad. They were everywhere but not on my feet.

San Jose at the time must’ve been an incredible place to be skating in Enjoi and Tilt Mode’s hey day. That energy can never be duplicated. I went to visit in 2019 and got to skate a few spots I’d been watching Marc skate for years. I’m a bit surprised he only ever got a few clips at De Anza park, no lines for memory. I’m going to have to go back and check. He did some incredible stuff there, though!

‘They sold a FUCKTON of those’ - Marc

Marc made Emerica cool. He made everything awesome. He was everywhere, but we wanted more. Or maybe we just knew skateboarding needed him and it lost a lot with his absence and now with his death. What a legacy, though.

It’s a testament to Marc and his skating that after putting out almost 20 (twenty!) video parts we were still all rooting for a comeback and just hoping he was doing okay and around. The words from Louie hit hard.

One really cool thing to come out today is how many people, random people, fans, etc have hand written notes, letters, artwork, or texts from Marc. I can barely keep up with texting my best friends, this dude was spreading the love to strangers when he could. That's beautiful. I want to be more like that

and epic post @TheLurper I don't know why anyone would think this is a good place to post any low frequency drama

Posted early about this clip. But for some reason I remembered it being in fully flared. It was not. It was in yeah right. Either way seriously the best full cab flip ever. The setup adds to it. I know its in some simple shit but it so well well executed and like uniquely his style its one of my favorite mj clips.

This one hurts, and it is tough to find the words. As complicated as Marc was, he did teach all of us the simple importance of going skateboarding, and making your friends laugh. We've all needed that reminder at one point or another.

They came out for SSD24 but Marc’s name was never on them (besides the huge M). They’re called OG-1 and no reference to Marc in the announcement.

I noticed LB Skate had a healthy supply of MJ Chocolate boards in the $120-$200 range yesterday. I was about to buy one and they tripled the prices overnight. I get it, but kinda sucks.

One of my lifelong homies bought some decks from B&C as it was falling off..nothing ever came, and he just wrote it off as whatever because well...it's MJ. I think it was like a year or more later his box came with an apology letter with a smiley face and a "I love you" I certainly never knew the man..but I think that story sums up why I cried today. RIP MJ and thank you for dozens of times your parts got me off the couch to go skate.

Somewhere in a bin I have the Black Sheep deck of MJ dressed in a black sheep costume, still in wrap. I’m trying to think up a good spot to hang it up to honor as one of my biggest on board influences.

It’s just strange thinking that someone who created something so profoundly influential to so many, can be gone in an instant. It’s hard sometimes to grasp the complexity of life outside our own individual bubbles and perspectives. Each day we carry our own weight, and perhaps pay little mind to the fact that every other conscious being is doing the same.

I’m bummed I never got anything from B&C. I don’t think those boards ever made it out of the US. That’s all I would’ve skated if I could’ve got some. Even tried hunting down shirts and hoodies with no luck.

One of my coworkers who knows I skate asked me if I’d heard the news this morning. I was like, how the hell do you know about him?

Apparently her husband skated and MJ was one of the guys he was like “you gotta see this” to her

I don’t think she has that much skateboarding knowledge but she was able to recognize how stylish and cool he made it look. She said the “Five Years” Bowie song is on her go-to playlists and the first time she’d heard it was in “Pretty Sweet”

MJ’s reach is long. Such a legend

When people pass away especially too young, it sometimes feels like the praise they are getting is over glorified. With MJ, when you see statements of his peers in the industry it just feels like an accurate statement. When guys like Lucas, Shane O’Neil, Ishod, P Rod, Daewon, Apples etc. are talking about how much he influenced them it seems readily apparent in their footage. Just an unreal talent with a creative mind which was shown through his skateboarding.

This one cuts deep. The first video I ever watched was Uno and Marc had the opener. It blew my mind being brand new to skateboarding. His profile in 411 Best of Volume 4 is probably my most watched video part of all time. I remember the first time I got back into skating after quitting for a few years around 2009 being at a bar and having an hour long conversation with a guy wearing a Lakai shirt about Marc’s Fully Flared part. Just two strangers bonding over the magic that a stranger had made on his skateboard. After another skate hiatus my socials showed me that another Girl/Chocolate video had just dropped and I raced to my local shop to grab a copy of Pretty Sweet. The next day, 30 year old me called my older sister and asked to borrow every David Bowie cd she had. To this day the Ziggy Stardust album is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I would have never given it a listen if it wasn’t for MJ. I’m still looking for the right pair of brown corduroy pants and white on gum shoes. As a 42 year old man it’s hard to explain how the death of a complete stranger had ruined my day but it has. Marc deserved the legend status that so many other guys have gotten without contributing nearly as much. Fuck Mike Carroll. MJ should have been celebrated through his 40’s the same way Reynolds has been but was slandered and drug through the mud by a kook that couldn’t pay his employees what he was contractually obligated and ruined Marc’s career when he found what should have been a career saving new sponsor. For my money Marc Johnson was the best to ever do it and the most influential skater to me. RIP to a great one.

Woah… that’s pretty cool though. It seemed like he loved talking about music as much as talking about skateboarding. I’d never heard Songs:Ohia until he mentioned it in that text
