I think we've entered into murky waters somewhere between paying homage to a fallen soldier, and using that soldier to move product. Issuing a statement or a post praising Marc and his career is a class act. Pasting his face on the banner of your storefront feels (to put it lightly) a bit off. I don't think MJ would have liked this one bit.
I'm also reminded of Courtney Love in this moment, having a breakdown at a show and chastising fans for bringing posters of Kurt Cobain's face to her concerts. What feels like a loving sentiment quickly turns to a nightmarish cold reminder for the people who were close to that person. Zelda Williams (Robin Williams' daughter) was dealing with similar issues, constantly being reminded of the 'tortured genius' of her father online in daily tribute posts years after his death.
Even when it's well-intentioned, doesn't mean that it always hits the mark. Maybe I'm off base here, but this feels in incredibly poor taste coming from Hours is Yours...I feel gross looking at it.
