I enjoyed that.  Anyone recall what the re-edited Yeah Right song was?

i remember them just using different versions of love will tear us apart
[close]

I had both the regular dvd and the weird mass produced one. MJ skated to what sounded like a demo version of Love Will Tear Us Apart which threw off the editing ever so slightly and just generally sounded worse. Definitely a downgrade. There were a few different songs for other skaters, but Marc's was always the most baffling because it was the exact same song, just a shittier version of it.

This is the worse version correct? If that’s the case I’m counting myself lucky to have the better version.

I had a friend who would get in really heated arguments over the song in MJ’s part. He kept claiming it was a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds cover. Maybe he had this version and the whole thing was a big misunderstanding. All I remember he was so pissed because everyone else was just like ‘nah it’s Joy Division what are you talking about?’

Thinking about it, that kid got angry at everything.

pretty sure this is the “bad” dvd version and the song is a squarepusher cover. it’s not too offensively different but yeah the edit is a little of. the version above is the original vhs edit, with pennine version of the song

What the hell, that one is awful. No 24 hr party people either.

I’m glad I have never seen that until now. There must be three versions. My version also doesn’t have the cuts with the photos of Marc that pop up early in the part.

funny, i always remembered a third version but i thought i mandela effected it when looking it up now, but i swear he skated to the original version of the song by joy division as well? i remember looking up the full vid on youtube when i was a kid and when i got to his part it was the other version and i was confused, but i haven’t seen it at all since then. in that edit i posted theres some tricks that didnt make the cut on the other version, like varial heel manny on the euro gap to pad and i think the fs 180 fakie manny on the round gap to pads was in the final flare unused footage bonus montage (?) kinda sick to have 3 mj parts from one video even if it’s just the song/editing that changed. i had the “limited edition” dvd and i always thought the koston prince edit that they included in the bonus features was so much better, but for some reason the outtakes montage wasn’t on that version. someone start the “different versions of videos” thread…

so I was going through old mags and I found this Rodney/MJ interview in Skateboarder (back when it was annual, this is 1997). Thought it belonged here!

Do you happen to have a scan of the short MJ interview from Skateboarder magazine issue summer 1997? I used to have the magazine but lost it years ago. Been looking for that interview but no luck so far.

Anyone know if there will be a Thrasher tribute like they did for Dylan and Grosso?

This is totally it. I haven't seen it in 20 years so I most likely misremembered it still being Joy Division. At the time to young me's ears I probably just assumed it was Joy Division and never watched it again. So strange to have the same song, but a worse rendition of it. Good pull!

I’ve been somewhat curious about that magical photo ever since I saw it as a kid around 2000’s. It was one of those ”no fucking way” moments and it sort of still feels like a photo of Bigfoot. No footage by my knowledge but I would love to hear the story behind it.
Also that MJ Mullen enjoi ad is genius.

Correct me if i am wrong but...

OG version - yeah right vhs - 24 hour party people & joy division
DVD version - with green 'YEAH RIGHT!' logo - only difference is no photos
DVD version - with white 'YEAH RIGHT! logo - rhino version - the less said the better

I'm fairly certain there are a number of slight differences edit-wise between the OG and Green version. I used to know this stuff cold, but to the best of my recollection, there is a 180 ollie to fakie nosegrind at this school in Nevada City that is only in the OG version and not the Green. Also, the long line at night with the jazz pushes gets chopped off early in the OG version and we get to see the whole thing in the Green version. There's also a few tricks that are slo-mo'd in one version but not the other (backside flip over street gap comes to mind).

The main version I think everyone plays is about 4:03 whereas the other Rhino version is 4:20 or more, with a number of other tricks, as said.  Even between two versions of the 4:03 and 4:04 or so, there are different tricks, some slightly different editing, but still mostly the main tricks anyway.

Interesting to see all three versions, but as Walker Ryan said, the longer one had a different vibe too.

So a video part just came up while scrolling that had Marc caveman into a darkslide on a rail that looked very much like that from a different angle, so although I haven't looked closely at that picture, was it of Marc or of Rodney, with a tribute or nod to Rodney who learned them?

Thanks - maybe too much time trying to sort through all the videos and getting confused.

Even between different versions of them too, but at least having all this in the one place and the compilation thread from Stan.

Well worth watching so much of it.

YouTube just recommended me an episode of "4 wheels live" with Marc and westgate, and it just memory blasted me with the image of Marc as a casino dealer doing another version of these weird shows. Does anyone remember this? Am I losing it? Does it exist anywhere?
