Ramp build
« on: May 30, 2026, 05:59:12 AM »
So I have a smaller garage it’s a 20x23 ft and 9 ft height. Debating if I want to build a bank ramp and a quarter pipe corner to corner so bank ramp in one corner and quarter pipe on one side both would have to be 3 ft height and a manual/grind box in the middle. Question is has anyone turned their garage in a mini skatepark? At first was just going to build a half pipe but figure since I skate more street that I’d do what I described anyways hopefully I put this in the right thread if not let me know I’ll move it.  Not sure if you can post pictures on the thread but if you can please do so I can get some ideas on what to do. I usually wake up early before my kids do and go to the skatepark but for rainy days would be nice to skate in the garage.

Dimensions sound tight to be able to pop onto a box with authority?

If I were doing this I’d consider a qp at the back wall of the garage, open the door, and put the box in the driveway for more run up…

Although maybe the whole point is to skate inside in bad weather…I dunno, go for it man. Kids today have fast feet. Or if you don’t now, you soon will.

I’m 36 and slowed down quite a bit 😂 I agree might be too close. Maybe I’ll just do the half pipe instead

.

Any regular size garage, single car or two car space works really well with a halfpipe, either to fill the whole area, or just do quarters that can be moved / stood up if needed.

Did you mean to have things going diagonally across?  That would give you a little more distance, but still pretty cramped for having any decent obstacles, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

I recall seeing some street type setups where a guy has one push, hits a small ledge or rail or parking block, is able to do something and turn off before stopping at the end wall.

Building a small halfpipe can make a garage space way more interesting, even if you don't skate a lot of transition, something small enough and mellow enough can make it more worthwhile than a flat ground or small street space, but I can still skate the flat area of my own ramp often enough too.

My rational thinking with my shed ramp (equivalent of two car garage dimensions) is that I can skate a skatepark or street type spots a lot more anywhere else, but there are not a lot of nice small halfpipes around to skate.  I also have a small ledge and a few other things in miniature scale that I can still get out and skate in the other side of the shed too, one push do something and roll a bit and stop.  I can also take these out to the driveway if needed, or fit in the car too.

There are a good number of interesting pics online with garage skateboard ramps or similar things too, but really it is up to you with whatever you might enjoy the most.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Your garage is pretty small to try and do quarter/bank/pad combo. Best bet is a half or 2 quarters so you can skate them together(as a wider 1/4) or put them opposite so it like a half. You can also do a cinderblock ledge and it won’t take up much room and you can have the 1/4 to drop in from for speed(just not much run out/roll away room). Oh small tight transition is really fun for spaces like that.

When my friend and I had a 1/4 in a tiny garage we’d hold the door open for each other so we could run in from the hallway to get enough speed to hit it.
Don’t recommend that for us old farts.
