The Nine Club handling MJ's death really f*cking poorly
« on: June 07, 2026, 03:00:04 AM »
GH did a video on his Patreon where he goes in on the Nine Club, who were actual friends of MJ, doing a stream "in his honour" that is fully monetized. There are BOING donation sounds during moments of silence and love being sent to his son and they played MJ's parts on silent (which knowing MJ's emphasis on music is maybe the biggest crime in all of this). GH did a tasteful thing in keeping this to his Patreon instead of overshadowing MJ's death with this beef but fucking hell this deserves to be called out. They at least should send all of the profits of this stream to Avery, least they could do. Absolute travesty and U think it needs its own thread.

I wonder if this conversation happened in any pre-existing nine club threads and had already run its course by now

The music is always off when they play clips because of copyright. If you care so much just have a chat with guys on Insta or start a crowd fund for Avery.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Marc’s Hot Chocolate quote, but I think that really only applies to him. I’ve been trying to learn a really good jazz push and it’s definitely just a Marc thing.

MJ rules and the Nine Club honoring him was the first time I tuned in—in a long time.

Chris mentioned multiple times that no one had to donate. This was just a way to celebrate MJ’s life. In all honesty, in that moment I needed that episode. It was like collectively something had to be done in the immediate to honor the true legend we lost.

I think in time we may get a Thrasher piece, or a longer documentary style piece on MJ’s career. But the Nine Club episode just felt so right for the moment.

Thanks dude! Yeah I actually watched it for the first time ever last week. It popped up naturally.

This is just sheer hoping. But it would be cool for Patrick or Thrasher to do another big retrospective on his entire career. The man had so many parts, did so many skits, and was incredibly influential on almost all skaters. Not saying it should happen anytime soon, people are obviously still grieving. Maybe in a year’s time or so. Truly, the amount of talking heads I would love to hear from espousing Marc stories.

You really are a vile piece of shit, aren't you? MJ hasn't been gone for a couple of days and you're already trying to direct emotions of anger (at the tragedy of the situation, as a normal part of the grieving process) on to a specific person; Chris Roberts. A person, no less, who just lost a (former) close friend.

Yeah, máybe Roberts is a complete sociopath, a moral blank without any redeeming human features, who sees the death of MJ only as a welcome opportunity to make a couple extra dollars. Or maybe he's just not a particularly smart dude, who's surrounded by dudes with similar IQ's, and who made a fucking shit decision on the day.

Also, GH literally said some decisions that were made in that Nine Club episode didn't sit that well with him, but he didn't want to point fingers at these dudes/tell these dudes how they should grief while they have júst lost a friend and former team-mate, and who he himself doesn't know personally at all (so he can't make any wild accusations or judgements on their character).

Go fuck yourself dude.

GH is profiting off MJ’s death by purposely interpreting the nine club video in a way that he knows will elicit anger/response from his fans and generate views. Shameless.

This is beyond low. I watched the episode and I was thinking they should probably turn that off but I’m not about to judge where someone’s mind is at going through the loss of a close friend but this thread title is garbage and shameful

I'm sure Avery would rather do without the $17.49 that a Nine Club livestream brings in.

As previously stated, Nine Club made a mistake, it just happened to be extra tasteless. No need to chastise the guys who just lost their close friend over boing sound effects.

While some people and businesses took advantage of a tragedy, I'm not going to freak out over this.

Yes, it would have been nice if they had opened comments to everyone during the live stream. Yes, it would have been smart to turn off donations/or promise those donations to a charity, but I don't think this was malicious and considering how many people tune into the Nine Club, they were providing a service for those bummed on the loss of someone so important to skateboarding. Despite other standing criticisms, they were doing something good.

If they said, "Donate now and 100% of proceeds will go to the Ben Raemers Foundation" or something, and then went out and bought a new car, we could all be hyper upset.

It's actually incredibly shitty that goofy hater would make a video manufacturing drama out of nowhere on the back of someone's death.

What an incredibly shitty thing to do.

Also all of the nine club guys were good friends with Marc. They don't need that little creep turning all the brainless goofs on the internet against them when they are supposed to be mourning.

GH will really do anything for attention.

Please tell me he isn't getting a positive reaction to that video?

Far be it from me to back the nine club, but if we’re talking about them “profiting”, what are we talking about here? A couple hundred bucks at the most? Who gives a shit?

Maybe I was riled up from the GH video and how bummed he was at the Nine Club. But he's very rarely wrong and I'll stand by it. Those boing sounds during moments of heartbroken contemplation are unforgivable. The Nine Club gets way too much slack on here, they've sucked at least since the Oblow interview
