On the forum front page all you see is "Financial Crisis - K-".

I thought it was gonna say "Kris Markovich Sells Given Skateboards".

I'm pretty sure Kingpin will stay in business. They'll probably stop printing german, french and spanish editions.

It seems that the european skateboarding magazine KINGPIN is in trouble. They fired the german editor and will stop printing a german version of the magazine. They will win a former reader.

Good excuse for them to finally learn some English.

One English edition should be able to survive, I hope so.

It seems like almost all the skate mags have either gone under or now have internet versions. Kingpin was sick but they never made it to victoria

They stopped selling Kingpin at the newsstands in Finland, which I find pretty weird. We get most of the American ones but not the major European one. Hell, I'll just subscribe to it.

Having 3 different language editions sounds pretty far fetched anyway.

i think it's a good thing they have all those languages, because after all, it's a european mag. actually they should use esperanto, the european language!

They will lose a lot of readers if they juz run an english version. Not every kid likes to learn english to read a skateboard mag.

Most european kids speak english anyway, so they wouldn't really have to learn it. Except spaniards. Most of them really don't know a word in english.

Don't get me wrong, i'm all thumbs up for a french, spanish and german Kingpin version, but when the company is in trouble, it would be a wise choice to eliminate the foreign language editions and keep the original. I think it's a better solution than firing staff, or going out of business.

AHAHAHAHHAHA idle speculation is a hetero look.

Sorry to have to report that homie at the top is (surprise) talking out his arse.
Not only did we post our best year to date last year, but we will be expanding next year.
We may choose to make some staffing changes, but they will be to go forward, not fall back.
Thanks for the appreciation shown but rumours of our regress GREATLY exaggerated by marginal gossipy scenesters as per.
Lamina now carry distro for KIngpin in Finland into all major skateshops.
We are totally committed to the pan- European project in all current languages.
Kingpin will be the last thing to drop, trust me.

Thanks, Niall!

I said german kingpin is over because the german writer David Luther lost his job which he mentinoed on his blog. He also thinks, that german kingpin is over and Kingpins Darryl is an asshole. Oh and Matt Fenton can't cook - not my words, HIS.

This afternoon there was a lot of talk about kingpin here. In the late afternoon Niall Neeson from Kingpin mailed and stated some intresting facts. And he is the one, who should know. From his email and his comment here these seem to be the facts:
Last year Kingpin had their best year and they will be expanding next year. The good news for alle german kingpin fans: German Kingpin will still appear, with a new german writer, and kingpin is still going strong. And there is no financial crisis at kingpin.

So finally the German writer got fired and the edition will still be printed, but with a new writer.

Only one fun fact, he's kind of whining about losing this job.

Probably, but the tone of that article seems pretty childish. Like I said, not taking sides, just commenting on the article's tone.

I understand German and English, I read all the stuff about this story.

There is one thing I don't understand how a magazine which is distributed in a lot of countries is not able to keep it's website up to date.

How is it possible, that contact information isn't corrected if something inside the company changes.

At that point I have to question myself, if the person who is responsible for the magazine is the right man for that position.

The German articles can be found under www.boardstation.de

If you call this good work I don't know?

If Greg@hasn'tworkedhereinoveraye.ar is your official contact. Well that is what I call good work.

German internet gossip- does it get any better? Greg hasn't worked here in over a year, thats how up to speed you are on the actual factuals. Our website has all our emails and phone number but lets tell the truth: you wanted to be first in with the bad news and now you look like a right dick.
So be man enough to admit it.

Anyway, this is dull. See you all out skating in 2009.

what i don't understand is, is that a european mag costs double the price of the US mags.

Happy to: newspaper and magazine distribution is run like a mafia cartel- we have to pay them to carry the titles, then they take the profits from the sales. Hence going direct into Scandinavian skateshops and circumventing the newsstand. We tried to find an American distributor but it is a real racket- thats why there are no mid- sized publishing companies in America- either they are resolutely independent or swallowed by larger cartels who then dictate costs. Theoretically a European title could be printed in the US to offset shipping costs, but when the standard of the media is as high as it is there, do you really need another skate mag?

yes. everything looks like the cover of tiger beat over here.

Guess only time will tell.

But in the end seems kinda sad for the German Editor losing his job. Like losing a baby...imagine you run "your" mag and then get fired...I dont have any background details...there may be a reason...maybe he fucked up big time?....just saying.
