This is not a HATE thread

I respect all these dudes listed below by me and anyone else who decides to chime in....but really.....you guys need to bow out gracefully and stop getting a pro model sold based on your name recognition when you have nothing left to contribute to the forward progression of skateboarding.

Mike Vallely
Ed Templeton
Bam Margera
Steve Berra

add to the list if you'd like - or start this thread on the downward hate spiral most threads seem to go even though this i snot what it's about....meh

Pro skating isn't based on skill or who is doing what hot shit right now. Pro skating is all about marketability and if a brand can still market a person so that their boards sell than they will still have a pro model. Most of the people named in the beginning of this thread are in some leadership role in the brand they ride for so a bit of pride may also be involved. Start a board company to turn yourself pro.

These discussions of certain pros "deserving" their status are based in complete fantasy. This business of skateboarding is mostly corporate and the VF corporation cares very little if Alex Olson "paid his dues" and Billabong's shareholders have no concept if Bam's skill level is par for pro status.

If anything, perhaps we should be debating whether these suits (who profit from skateboarding) have paid their dues enough to warrant our patronage. Maybe we should tell these publicly traded corporations that they need to hang it up by boycotting them.

Ed and Jamie aren't really corporate, but have contributed enough to skateboarding to have made a name for themselves. Frankly, I think Toy Machine and Zero could not stand without their respective owner's prominence within the brand.

But hey shouldnt be pro anymore - Jamie needs to run Black Box and Ed run Toy Machine - no need to keep pumping out a new model with their name on it for the sake of it - we got Hawk and Caballero for that.

Bam is done

Steve has The Berrics going strong and I like to see him on their weekly - but he doesn't need a pro model anymore - he doesn't even have but a shred of new footage. Mind Field and a tad on The Berrics is it - he's done.
