I met my first pro at the skatepark today. Brian Anderson was at one of the parks I go to. Having never met a pro I was a bit of an idiot and was just honest  like “first time meeting a pro I don’t know what I’m doing”

Dude was super nice and said hey my names Brian I’m like yea haha I know and then he complimented my dunks and I couldn’t help but kinda laugh and sorta joked like yea your on Nike you get free shit from them. But he was like nah I haven’t skated those ones yet. I hope I didn’t come off rude laughing but I don’t think it did.

Then when he was leaving he said bye nice to meet you again.

Nothing crazy but just super cool seeing a pro at a park I frequent. I’m still getting a lot of “first times” being relatively new to skating and I’m always so stoked every time.

Some months back I was in London for an Adidas demo, it was the release of the Tyshawn 2 (They pulled up with a van full of shoe boxes, if you got a cool trick, somebody gave you a ticket, then you told the lady in the van your size, handed her the ticket and you got a free pair. I got the black and white colourway, I was so hyped.) and there were a bunch of the Adidas team there, Gabriel Summers, Tyshawn of course and Kader are just the ones I remember.

Me and my friends skated a bit, I got a pair of shoes (lame cop-out fs 50-50 but hey, free shoes is free shoes) and as we were going to leave I walked up to Kader and told him he was a big inspiration to me. I was wearing a Violet hoodie, and he gave me props for that, then I walked away with a fist bump, huge smile on my face.

We skated another park close by for maybe an hour, then headed home cos it was getting dark. As we were walking home we turned a corner, and there in a cloud of smoke was Kader, clearly high out of his mind, eyes red as fuck, blunt in hand. I was so surprised to see him again that I basically just repeated how much I loved his stuff and how he was a legend to me, complete with another fist bump.

All things considered, a very good day. Who else can say they've fist bumped Kader twice?

I'll pass on a singular fist bump, but I'm glad it meant something to you!

I once was threatened outside a shop by a pro. I forget the name of the place. It was Newberry Street. I was on double secret or perhaps in a mango program too. I don’t remember the year as I was also macro dosing. I think I was looking for someone this lil pug looking fucker’s skate ops or something. Yeah I was def tripping when it happened lol. I can taste the memory. Oh gawd

I was having pho today in Los Angeles solo at 11am… at one point I look up and see Yuto slurping pho right next to me, also alone. I had to stop myself from laughing because the place was empty - it just felt so surreal and hilarious. I dapped him up briefly while walking out and he was thankful. Good vibes.

One time when I was a lot younger at the Berkeley skatepark, I was wearing Cardiel vans and a brand new Cardiel AH board and fucking John Cardiel rolled up and started sessioning. I felt like an absolute mark

A while back I was visiting LA and went to Stoner. The park was closed but you could hop the fence pretty easily to get in. I was about to take a run when I saw Kelly Hart staring at the fence. He asked "hey man how did you get in there?" I told him to hop the fence and I could help him out. He put his board down, gave it a shot but got scared half way up and bailed.

Left work yesterday and saw Hayley Wilson trying to crook a ledge up the street.

Went up and said hey and watched for a little bit.

Not something I thought I’d see around where I work.

My favorite is this: 16 years ago or so my friends and I (high school) ran into Steve Berra while we were out skating. He was super cool, handled our heckles, and invited us to the finals of BATB 2. "Just email me a few weeks before."

True to his word, a few months later he emails us tickets (literally like 20) for entry and we convoy up to LA with no real idea where The Berrics is, just a general direction (keep in mind this was 2008/2009, IPhones had just come out the year prior, so  while we had the address, we couldn't just map ourselves there). We drive around what we think is the general location to no avail. Just as we're about to give up, we decide to ask some super hipster looking guy riding by on a fixed gear. "The Berrics, like the skate spot? Yeah, I'll show you, my roommate goes all the time, you guys ever heard of Heath Kirchart?" Turns out he was Heath Kirchart's roommate at the time. He showed us the way. Iirc it was under some bridge or something at the time, super random/hard to find. So not technically a pro, but the most memorable for me.

Some other fun memories from that night: PRod being super cool at the BATB - one of our younger friends asked him for his autograph (not seriously - we were 13-17 year olds who thought we were hot shit) and he took off his Mountain Dew hat he won the game in, signed it, and was super nice. That Boosh dude got thrown out for getting too drunk and yelling at Luztka, "Nice Fedora!" on repeat whenever Lutzka skated. David Loy (beanie and cast version) mean mugging us for no reason in the meal line. Salman Agah was working the entry tickets and was pretty cool, also served some pizza iirc. A few friends from that trip ended up getting sponsored, and at least one is now pro, but at the time, especially being so young and removed from everything, it was just awesome.

Here's one more super funny random one: a few years back I worked for Amazon corporate, and another engineer on my team was roommates with Dennis Durrant.

April 1998 , as french student in OK, we took spring break off west , arriving in SF to see Scott Bourne , Karma Tsocheff and Danny Gonzales skating a rail . Pete Thompson was shooting pics ,  never saw the footage ,  guess in Thrasher if someone ever has this evidence. Scott Black and Karma invited us to Saint Patrick party with my 2 girlfriends , guess they wanted to hang out with them . Danny Gonzales looked surprised to be known by a random french student . All were so cool ,  still have some pics of the encounter .

April 1999,  was working in Huntington beach as waiter , got to micro former skatepark on Warner AVE ,  Reynolds Sumner Lenoce riding Hosoi board for a thrasher shooting ,  Reynolds was breathing with noise , didn't know he was addict then .

May 1999 , same place but lunch time , me without board at same park ,  Richard Mulder was the other one and proposed me to ride his board in between swithc pop shuv over pyramid, sometimes in live, it's better to decline and retire before getting ridiculous . Richard is a really nice person

About 10 years ago I was skating bqe in brooklyn and went to the nearest bodega to get some brews. When trying to buy them I got carded (the only time that ever happened to me in nyc) and I didn't have my i.d. on me. Miraculously, Fred Gall happened to walk in as I was telling the cashier that I'd put the beers back. While putting the beers away I said whattup to Fred, told him what happened and asked him to buy the beers for me. He did without hesitation.

Another Fred Gall story I have happened at Shorty's DIY. My friends and I pulled up and entered the park through the doorway. While walking in we realized someone was filming a trick on it. It was Fred. We sat down and Fred landed a frontside kf over the gap the first attempt we saw. Based on the reaction from his crew he'd probably been trying it for a while.

Cairo Foster came into my work a few months ago.  He came in to visit my boss, who is an old friend of his wife's.

Super nice guy.  I was wearing an old Planet Earth Buster Halterman shirt, and he started tripping out on it.  I felt cool.

He works for Crocs now, which I wasn't expecting.  I need to have my boss follow up with him for a box.

mark suciu and his friend jiro came to my local, dude was straight ripping the second he came in. My friends and I later met him at a street spot unplanned, he was super nice and chill, was out to get a photo for adidas supposedly
