Did anyone get the 10th anniversary book? It had some really good write ups on Watterson's fight against licensing, his inspiration for the characters, the thought processes behind some of the memes of the strip (the snowmen, Calvin's wagon), and a lot of his personal favorite strips. I don't think any of it was featured in the box set, so I'd definitely grab it if I saw it again.

I'll probably be posting in this thread a lot.

my ex and i read that together on the bus not too long ago.

I was actually at a bookstore recently and they had a used Calvin and Hobbes book that I had as a kid selling for like $5 bucks.  I got so ecited skimming through it that I had my parents mail me out all of the old ones I had as a kid that were now collecting dust in the garage.  I ended up just sort of going through some of them and it brought a serious smile to my face just remembering reading a few of them for the first time and how stoked I was on it way back then.

Calvin and Hobbes will forever make me laugh, therefore making me happy. Along with The Far Side-- which someone else mentioned-- Calvin and Hobbes is my favourite.

Cathy is ok but, when compared to Calvin and Hobbes, it's sissy literature!

^this one is my favorite because I used that reference about fuzzy mittens when it snowed this year in Texas.

Calvin & Hobbes lets me vicariously live the fun in the snow I could be having if I didn't live in Texas

I feel like I'm the same little kid that I once was and whenever I found myself in some adult circumstances that I refuse to understand/accept I end up remembering a certain strip that I could wholly relate to.

i still have all my books from growing up, but the box set is gold. i'm reading it to my four year old daughter as bed time stories the last few days, it's funny- i feel like i'm warping her somehow, but a good warping. she loves the spaceman spiff ones the most.
definitely best comic ever. far side is a close second-- pretty amazing what he could do in one panel. i have a gary larson drawing that says "to Mark the nerdling" with a drawing of a caveman sticking his tongue out. my dad played basketball with him when i was a kid.

AMAZING!
If children are ever in my future, Calvin and Hobbes will be what I read to them as well. Introduces them into a world of imagination.

I feel the same way, I would love to read Calvin and hobbes for a bedtime story! I attribute my voracious reading of that comic as a kid to my ability to recognize the difference between your and you're and there and their and just learning words that made me pick up a dictionary to see what they were saying!

Even though I got all the books at my mom's place, this thread made me man up and buy the box set yesterday. Amazon's got it brand new for $90.

Keep your eyes peeled dude. My ex got me the box set brand new a few years ago for like $30 because there was a misprint on the jacket of one book, instead of saying book one book two book three, there are two book threes, which is like who gives a shit, I probably never would've noticed had she not told me. Also, sign up for borders reward emails, they have 50% off email sales all the time!

that top on is pretty rad, new age Calvin is too stoked on video games and potato chips to go outside and use his imagination to play with hobbes.
