I just like my shoes to say "I'm a shoe" and vans slipons don't do that for me where the Janoski and K-walk2s do. I wonder how the KW2s will look with the strap cut off or if that will ruin the function of the shoe. Now I need to buy a pair just to hack them up, thanks a lot Vans.

I kind of get this.. I think its the lack of laces. Laces give shoes volume and texture. They also make pants look a hell of a lot better on top of the shoe imo. To me, slip ons only make sense with tight pants or highwaters, neither of which I wear. Otherwise they're just dainty little nubs lost under the drape of your pants. Janoskis have laces and the kwalks have the strap which fill that space that helps make the shoes look like a 'shoe'.

When I say an inanimate object says something I don't mean it literally. At a glace I like things to be recognizable for what they are. I like sandals to look like sandals, boots to look like boots, and shoes to look like shoes. Stuff like crocs and slipons fuck with my brain because at a glance I don't know what it is and that inherently bothers me. It's the same reason humans are spooked by things that look like faces but aren't.

There are exceptions to this for me in things where the purpose of the device or act is deception but shoes aren't that to me.

The janoski slip and kwalk2 get around my "not a shoe" problem by having some height and and curvy silhouette that says "shoe". The slipon pro to me looks more like a slipper as the name implies but the silhouette is kinda bubbly or something I just don't like them. I just straight up won't do certain tricks in thin shoes because if things go poorly it's going to hurt my feet more than it's worth.

Why would a slip on last any worse than any other one piece toecap shoe?
The janoski slip will take just as many kickflips as the regular janoski, slip on pro will take as many kickflips as an era pro etc.

They have some really sick younger riders, that getting kinda blocked with all the old dudes. If they are going to just be a nostalgia brand ala Powell (fuck you if you think current Powell team is interesting), than they should, imo, me, the guy who is just sitting on his couch....they should stop putting out sooooo many drops. FA kills it, in part, because they don’t flood the skreets with too many different ‘drops’. Boards mean something. Crail is like Bodie and them season 2 of the wire when they didn’t have the good dope and they were just renaming the same bogus package. That’s not fair and it’s stretched too thin as an analogy to work. But they flooding too hard. More than one chris Roberts, mike mo, mike Carroll, rickk, eldy, beebs, Jeron, Malto, McCrank....I’m missing someone I’m sure, more than one board per season for those dudes is fucked. Powell still sells McGill boards and I’m in my early 40s and can’t really remember that dudes shit. But he had one graphic. Not 53. If they did one MC board per season I might give a shit.
They took forever to make Cory and Chico’s shapes. That was hurtful.

For as smart as every. single. person. is at Crail...you'd think they'd be aware of their issues but it seems they still haven't figured it out.

They gotta split the team into "legacy" and "pro/am"  - this is obviously a must.

Give the legacy guys 2 drops a year, spring and fall. 

Every other board is a current pro.

as said above, limit the drops.  make your product something people are clamoring for.  keep it small and limited run if necessary.

(also they totally fucked up not totally owning the idea that they are the LOS ANGELES skateboard brand.  Girl and Chocolate are more synonymous with LA more than most other brands from the 90s.  embrace that.)

They should be posting 2 youtube videos A WEEK. whether its on location stuff or just The Office style skits and insights into the Crail office, show us the guys we like! people fell in love with Howard, Carroll, Spike, Smyth, because they're personalities and friendships mirror our own.  Thats where you let those guys shine.
