Yeah those Tilts look terrible. I would hardly even call that the same shoe. Obviously it's not the same shoe, but the one piece toe slapped over the Tilt panelling on the side is a miss. Looks like a Square Two that someone sewed some extra shit on. I'm not even an Emerica hater, but this shoe is just completely pointless.

Well they're doing the soletech thing, release a bunch of shoes on the same sole so you don't have to make another regardless of the upper fits the last of the rest of the shoe. If the last is designed with a slim upper, then you use the same last and add 4 more paneling layers to the shoe it's gonna look funky and out of shape.
I will happily skate a soletech shoe, but I'm not gonna buy it when they make something just to have another product to sell.

Think back to mid-2000's. Every vulc emerica/etnies shoe had the same sole as the Reynolds 3.
Same with ES now, use the same Scheme sole with different uppers to extend the profitability of the sole mold.

I have a feeling that it’s less about “extending the profitability of the sole mold” and more about “controlling costs so we can keep our head above water.” But maybe if people started buying eS and Emerica more, they’d have more resources to make a unique sole for every model they put out.

I’m not fully against them, but I wish they were the cupsole versions I skated growing up. I remember watching a ton of leo and Herman footage In kids in Emerica with them wearing the tilts. Those shoes had such a good toe box, fully miss the originals

The thing though is that all the majority of top sellers are Vulcs nowadays. I'd say most of us grew up skating cupsoles but things have changed. I mean look at Vans and how every kid is out there wearing them which are mostly Vulcs since a lot of the Vans staple shoes are vulc with the exception of a few pro models of course. Even Reynolds is wearing Vulcs now haha. I've worn some early samples of the Tilts and liked them a lot personally. Regarding the Reynolds/Spanky pour in G6 midsole, it's pretty expensive. Would you guys be down to spend $80-85 on a shoe? (This is a serious question as I am curious if skaters are willing to pay the extra cash for a better quality product or prefer to go the $40-$75 route?)

New molds are insanely expensive. Tens of thousands of dollars. Basically, you just end up trading in the old mold for the new one.

I have a pair of the white/olive Spanky G6s at my parents place (shipping there is more reliable) that I haven't been able to pick up with quarantine and all, but just from aesthetics alone, I'd buy a vegan Spanky if the color was right. I'm a big fan of Emerica's cupsoles since the Herman G6 came out (including the Westgate CC, which I think was markedly different construction compared to the G6) and I have no problem paying $80+ for the right model.

Yes, definitely. If it's an actual cupsole like the G6. Apart from being a pebble magnet, it's the best.

One of my cons with Emerica (and Vans for that matter) is the heel area is shit. Its uncomfy and it rips fast (inside).

I bought Reynolds G6 at full price at least a couple times. As for a similar style under SoleTech, I've paid full price for Marana and Joslin 1&2 from Etnies because they're worth the $80 price tag in my opinion. Supportive cupsoles that are not gimmicky but have the tech we need to skate well and make them last, we will buy! But if it's half-assed, then people will wait for sales on them, so they don't feel "ripped off".

As for Emerica, I'm not saying their shoes are half-assed, but some of our comments here should fuel the idea to explore at least one model that incorporates these features, fully. And we all know that won't be cheap but it may be worth it to buck away from the slippery vulc trend. It's possible to garner the audience that will pay $80-85 for a shoe, no problem again if we see the quality is there. Shout out EmericaTM for at least reading and thinking about what we have to say, where eS just replies with emojis to our recommendations, half the time.

I would take a look at New Balance and see that a lot of people are paying around 80+ for a new shoe, like the 440, 913 Westgate, and the 288 shoes. It's taken some time but NB has some of the best cupsoles and it's finally getting noticed by more people.
People who don't really skate have no problem dishing out 100 for Nyjahs.

I do think people will spend that much for an Emerica shoe, but it needs to be thought out well and obviously a killer shoe.
Lots of marketing helps too

I'd say it's slightly higher than the average price of shoes out right now from what I've browsed online and in person. A lot of shops I see tend to stock shoes in the $60-75 range since they usually sell better than the expensive ones (whether they're better or not). And those are the ones I usually see on kid and many adult skaters' feet while out skating. I think $70-75 is the common price I see. $80 still feels expensive at times, even though I'll gladly pay it for the right shoe.

But this whole topic is a lot more complex and is not just cost, since there's brand image and team/pro marketing that affect a shoe's final cost and so on. I'll stop rambling to the choir that knows exactly what I'm on about lol

Gotcha. I assumed the brands kept their old molds for reuse as it's their design and IP. I clearly dont know a thing about manufacturing. That said I dont mind the look of the vulc but the original court shoe look is classic.
