Lakai shoes just look so cheap and ugly. Telford low looks really bad. They should have done a 1 to 1 reissue of the original Telford. The highs feel so bad on feet in my opinion.

yeah I thought Telford Low was the one model that's promising. Trudgers will look better when they're all scuffed up and dirty after trekking through some misty NW forest. they sort of remind me of The Reynolds from like 2013.

but god damn, some of those colorways are so busy.

The Trudgers’ upper is fine but it’s hard to get excited about a pro model that’s using the same very distinct sole of team model from like 10 years ago (the griffin). The EVO 2 XLK is the only exciting thing in there and it’s because it isn’t using 1 of the 3 soles they keep recycling.

In contrast, Nike’s Nyjah 1 and team classic had almost identical soles but they differentiated them just enough so each had a unique identity. They did it again with the new one, the force 58 (I think?). It has pretty much the exact same sole but with a little point by the toe. Probably doesn’t change the way it skates at all but gives it its own fresh identity.

EDIT: LOL just noticed the Fade which is using the same sole as the EVO 2 XLK. i guess get ready to see it on a couple more models in the next decade

This. A lot of us whew complain about certain companies recycling previous model’s soles. It’s horrible.  Lakai and eS seem to do this so much and it’s so obvious. This is a huge reason (for me at least) that a lot of their shoes look and feel so cheap. I understand they do it as a cost cutting measure. But if you can’t afford to design/make shoes in a way that makes them unique and work better. Aka: make people actually like them maybe and want to spend their money on them, then what’s the point of even existing as a company at all?

That being said, I didn’t mind a lot of the color way in those catalogs. Also, I like weird stuff. That trudger shoe does look a little weird to me but if it was on sale I’d try it out. I’ll pay full price for either of the Telfords.

Am I in the minority here? I liked a good amount of Lakai’s models in those catalogs. I think the Trudger looks sick and will probably look better on foot than it did here. Some of those color ways are not good though.

I’m digging the Evo 2 XLK, Trudger, and Cambridge Mids.

I guess im in the minority group also. I think its cool to see something a little different nowadays. The trudger is a step away from what most hightop skates shoes look like right now.

The Trudger looks like it’s collapsing on itself. They should have taken a photo of someone wearing it and then airbrushed then out. Unless the shoe still looks like that when it’s being worn, in which case, that sucks.

I don't know much about hiking but it strikes me that skate shoes and hiking boots have really different soles for a reason. Wouldn't those be slippery as shit in anything but ideal conditions?

Also I used to say any shoe looks good in a black suede and gum colorway but I guess I gotta change that to almost all shoes now because the gum on the Trudger just make it look extra goony.

ok i wasn't gonna bring it up because i thought i was just in a mood, but there's something off about their gum sole in all the pics. idk what it is, other than that i don't have a lot of issue with the shoes but that stood out for sure

Personally I’ve always wanted to try the Atlantic  model but they don’t even have a single vegan/ textile model over the span of two catalogs so I’m guessing that day will never come…

Lakai just needs a rebrand in general, if they stuck to earth tones and downplayed that awkward looking logo theyd be fine, maybe make it like the older more mature skaters shoe brand as opposed to trying to appeal to young kids, it definitely is good a niche and it seems to be working really well for new balance


Im surprised Larry June regularly collabs with them, he doesnt name drop them at all ever on his songs, only time i heard him say anything about shoes he said "his larry june sneakers"

I don’t think it’s necessarily Lakais designs but the color palette and paneling of their shoes. Nothing looks cohesive. The Atlantic and Telford have so much potential.
