Cody Chapman shoe dropped recently. What's the deal with this sole? I assume it's one of those cupsole/vulc hybrid things but it would be nice if someone finally made an actual cupsole hightop.

I'm pretty sure the Lizzie is actually a vulc. The Crockett High is techically a cup but Van's Wafflecup tech is barely a step above a vulc. I would go as far as to say the same for the NB 440 since the midsole only goes part way up the sole. I've also been searching for a proper hightop cupsole lol

Those new Vans are... interesting? I guess I'm glad they're trying to branch out but I couldn't even see AVE wearing that.

Did I dream this or have we discussed the existence of a NB 480 mid/hi? I'm wanting a readily available cupsole high or mid and I really dig the 480s but my ankles are wonky (ligament strains maybe?) so Blazers with superfeet insoles are what I find myself skating more.

@rothdigga confirmed that 480 highs are coming out early 2024! I think it was discussed in the NB containment thread and some very low quality screenshots were posted of him skating an all black pair.

Possibly sooner than I stated above...stay tuned but weeks not months away

The verdict: They're pretty great, especially for being a Vans shoes.
Very sturdy, pretty good suede, good padding. Ultracush insole ...

And a VERY good shape;

I've paid more for less ... so I'm happy.

Now I hope they'll drop the all white and tan/olive joints as well.
(Lee Smith Was wearing them on his podcast last year so I'm pretty sure they'll come back)

I had a pair of the Skate Half Cab awhile back and didn't like it, but I'm willing to try these out and give it a second chance (since these are supposed to be similar to the Half Cab design).

Also, I was informed that these aren't coming to Canada, so if any Canadian heads want to cop them, best bet is a shop in the US.

Anyone know if the atlantic sole feels any different from the more simple xlk sole? The simple xlk sole on the telfords is paper thin, and it's been tricky trying to find an insole that doesn't take up too much room.

The Proto/Atlantic XLK sole is a bit stiffer than the original Telford/Brighton sole. Once broken in it’s really nice and I’m glad they switched the Atlantic sole onto the Telfords (I’m on my second pair now). The benefit to the “Simple XLK” sole is that it breaks in like a vulc shoe while still having better support than a vulc. That’s most likely why Cody and Griffin are using it because they skate vulcs.

There’s also another bulkier XLK sole that’s used on the Fade, Evo 2.0 XLK, Trudger, and the new MOD Cup. You could throw in any insole and it will make them even better (Footprint, Es Insole, Dr Scholls ect).

I forgot about the lakai trudger. IMO the Lakai, XLK sole was pretty bad. I've skated a couple of pair of telfords highs. didn't like either of them. I similarly found them the be flimsy and thin. It was two years ago when they first rereleased. It's possible that they could have improved since

but yeah, Only about 8 options out of all the skate shoes out now. Not much choice for hightop fans.

Just finished a pair of xlk Atlantics. The rubber is horrible. New grip(jessup) and new shoes. I almost got 3 weeks of skating. Kickflip area was destroyed. Previously skating NB#440's. I skated 4 pairs and they were all consistent in feel and longevity.

If Converse isn't gonna bring back the Pro Leather cupsole, then at least Greco is trying (in a way). They look closer to Pro Leathers than they do Campus/Stan Smith in my opinion.

I don't hate them, but that large Hammers logo looks terrible on those. Would be cooler if it was smaller and placed near the heel so it blends in better.

Hopefully, Greco has more designs coming up because I'm at least curious to see the direction, whether I'd buy any or not
