it's a bad look when one week he is shilling etnies and this week he's shilling a $130 pair of vans. he made the entire video ranting about how he could fix etnies, talking about they put out shoes in ugly colorways. gets a hook up with vans and grabs ass ugly highlighter yellow shoes. it's irksome. especially when he posts a vid and says  "I’m sure I just doubled my land rate on this trick because of the plastic on the heel of this shoe. It has a way of letting go of the heelflip a little earlier than most shoes I’ve been skating which makes this trick flick weirdly easy for me". someone letting themselves be a free promoter for a company, which is stupid when they're already promoting another company. didn't etnies just boot sheckler over the same shit? I like the guy, but I'm gonna call people out on stupid shit.

Sorta seems like there is a strange understanding of who Ben DeGros is and what he does.

Didn't he put a video out recently where he talked about taking down the only content he'd ever been paid for by a brand (Cariuma) the moment the content contract was up as he doesn't want to be a paid mouthpiece?
So, he's kinda doing it right in my eyes.
Wearing one brand would be odd and look sketchy in his role.

I've been watching Ben Degros videos on and off since 2018 or so. I'll go to bat for him in this case and say that he's not violating any contracts or is conflicting his interests from what I can tell with skate gear reviews. If you personally think he's hypocritical, that sounds like that's on you, and not on what he's actually doing.

@thehogsniper I think you misunderstand/don't know what Ben is doing - his core premise. Perhaps others are like you, too and don't know the whole picture (haven't followed him consistently) on how he decides what/who he "partners" with, if at all.

He's been incredibly transparent about gear hookups vs buying his own stuff when it comes to A) what he personally likes to skate whether it's reviewed or not and B) what he's actually reviewing/looking to endorse or fine tune with the brand if they want his feedback.

The Vans event is a one-off that he was asked to attend, so there may be a small ask in making a couple posts/video on YT and that's it. Is he not allowed to post about other shoes he likes whether they are compensated for a promotional piece or not?

Doesn't seem like there was ever an expectation for him to continue wearing etnies beyond what was agreed upon beforehand, either. Otherwise, Ben might only be wearing them when in reality he's been mixing it up footwear-wise since that "project" between them finished.

Sock like upper with separate lace up support.

Those look good, new AVE 2 bottom with similar sock upper just actually padded. I liked the bmx slip ons I had a couple years ago. I’d try these for the right price.

They did not seem like they would work for skating imho.

Just by being a bmx shoe I'm guessing they have some kind of shank in the arch to stop your foot from getting focussed on the pedals when you land but if the forefoot can still move they might be workable. Still not ideal but neither were all those early 00s shoes people insist were actually good for skating in.

So there’s 3 versions of this shoe with different insoles. One like the ave with the ultimatewaffle insole, one with comfycush, and the pro model has popcush. Might pull the trigger of the ones with popcush since I always thought the ave ultimatewaffle was a bit too hard and flat and that popcush might be what it was lacking.
