That Prada is also the inspiration for Dill's first DVS shoe.

DVS had so many great shoes.
Those black gray blue Keenans would go so hard today

I think I liked the Sheffey 2 a lot as a teen, not sure I still would.   Wasn’t the Gavin 1 a decent basic shoe

Its a common misconception that the Dvs Dill shoe was inspired by the prada america's cup. It was actually inspired by a more obscure prada sport shoe from 2001. The sole units look very close to one another, along with the deco stitch motif in the upper.

You'll notice after seeing the sport shoe that the dills look nothing like the america's cup.. - which is in fact an awesome footwear design and indeed one of the most iconic designer sneakers of all time. Although, that still doesn't justify using it as inspiration for the final M.C. colorway, which is a cool concept (at least there is a story) but terrible in execution. The M.C. has no connection, or even similar design language to the prada shoe for this concept to make sense...

Side note: DVS had some of the best footwear design language in the industry circa 97-98. Sheffey 1, Daewon 1+2, Trooper, Mirage, Navigator, Gavin, Chico 1, Keenan 1-3 -  all sick shoes.  Almost everything after 1999 was heinous though.

Oh shit! I think I knew that but just kind of assumed it was the America's Cup. I feel foolish. I did recognize that they didn't look that similar but assumed it was just a loose insipration.

Bravo SK8 Prick for out-nerding a skate shoe nerd such as myself! Appreciate it cause now I know the proper shoe.

I actually really like that Dill shoe still.

I like that first run of DVS that were all named after cigarettes or something stupid. At the time was just a basic budget Etnies and I remember they all ended up on discount at some sports store but now looking back they're kinda nice ahaha.

The first Keenan Milton (AKA basically a slimmed down Air Force 1) was actually super good and I would skate that design today for sure:

Then the Keenan 2 which was sort of the same wasn't too bad. Looked cool with the clear soles when they used them.

Also it's bulky as fuck now and in retrospect looks too much like the Court Graffik style that everyone did, but back in the early 00s the Revival was rocked heavily by my group of friends because it was just a basic simple shoe that seemed thin back then. Filmed one of my favourite tricks I've ever done in white ones.

Keenan’s first pro model makes me feel things, if I had an obscene amount of money I would recreate that shoe in both black and white specially for myself and that would be all I wore until my last dying breath

Yeah, looks like Vans is getting rid of the MC 96. From their Instagram: "The Vans Skate MC ‘96 by Quartersnacks delivers the final rendition of this iconic style before they make their permanent return to the archives."

At first I thought "well maybe Carroll sued them over it because it is called the MC 96", then I thought "well maybe it's the end of the MC 96 but Mike Carroll is going to put his name on it and they'll relaunch it", and then I realized "oh wait, this is vans. nothing they do makes any sense, they just want to lose money".

what was always somewhat strange to me is that they made a version of it with mike carroll's name for the girl auction. I'd love to know more on that, like if they contractually can't have a shoe released on a brand besides lakai. Also, I got the vibe from their bobshirt interview that rick/mike aren't happy with how lakai has been going. those half-assed re-releases did nothing for them.

I’ve always been confused by the legality of reissues.  He didn’t design it and iirc they kept selling them after he left Vans bc he left them shortly after the shoe came out.    But I’ve also heard Rick is the reason his DC shoe will never be re-released

I assume Rick must have designed some aspect of the shoes and that's where the issue came from.

DC or es or vans could probably remake anything they want and can't get sued by the pro (as long as they don't put the name on it) but if the company made the shoe and then the pro just posted this is bullshit I don't endorse any of this then it would prob put enough stink on the shoe that it just wouldn't be worth the effort.
For me the question is with everyone wanting Carroll vans and Howard and Carroll DC why don't lakai just make them/something close enough to them (apart from probably not being able to afford to make the DC models)

Great intel! I always questioned myself which prada shoe they referenced cause the America’s cup is definitely not that similar. Crazy how close the sole unit is from the ref shoe tho, never seen it side by side like that.

The vans concept is definitely a stretch and that silhouette doesn’t fit at all. A few years ago a similar one was done by Packer & Reebok in the Iverson IV’s but the outcome is 1000x better:

I really don't even think they're handling it anymore. like I could be wrong, but I thought HUF had taken over the operations.

Those prada cups ran Manhattan for a time. Theyre like the most QS shoe ever. Remember that clip edited to future turn off the lights that cuts into them all singing in the club? But why the MCs and not one of the ten new cupsoles Vans is running/bringing back

Nice nice nice.

i love the americas cup. I've skated like 3 pairs of them. Sizing is a bit wild maybe full size down. Materials and sole is very good. Something you don't get in a skate shoe normally.
