I’ve seen a handful of insta-skaters/wannabe influencers wearing these. Seems like a wider shoe would throw off flick but I’d imagine it’s something that could be adjusted to. Idk as I’m old and don’t flick much so 🤷‍♂️

Crazy, probably but there is definitely a void in the current offerings and someone could provide a shoe that isn’t on the market. I for sure would support a quality barefoot skate shoe with a durable and supportive upper.

Plus, they do running and lifestyle shoes. If selling to skateboarders doesn’t work out, they can focus on the other the lines.

I’m curious because I wear 10.0 due to width, but 9.0 has the perfect length. The extra space in the toe area can throw off my flick. However, I can’t wear smaller sizes because I already have overlapping toes from years of wearing shoes that were too small. These might be what I want, but I don’t know how well they will handle impact.

If more shops get these in, I’ll buy a pair. Cal Skate is the only shop I found that carries these but they don’t have the colorways that I want.

Yeah, having room for your toes is one thing and allowing your foot to flex with no drop is another. Barefoot shoes inherently usually have little impact protection, which is why we need something different for the bottom and top of the shoes. The good thing, at least for me is I’ve found bottom impact protection has less to do with material thickness and all to do with what material is used. So, we can still have thin and flex soles as long as a proper material is used for the insole. FP has worked for me in shoes that have basically no midsole and just a thin outsole.

But when I checked the Splay offerings, they don't seem great and the reviews I’ve seen here from people who use barefoot shoes and skate reinforce my thoughts on them. So, I definitely wouldn’t buy any of their current offerings without trying first and the main thing is, there is an opening for a shoe that a lot of people seem to want so hopefully someone makes it.

For the most part I never have any interest in the brands I post in this thread, except ice creams

DC is probably the most consistent core brand in recent history. Design, marketing, team etc. They also do a good job keeping their skate brand uninfected by their general audience releases/marketing.
