I started skateboarding because it let me be an individual, but most skateboarders seem to have the same mob mentality as jocks.
I know that a bunch of you all aren't fag bashers but what about the rest of you faggots?

homophobia usually stems from the way kids are brought up. if their parents were homophobic then the chances are pretty good that their kids will be too. so by the time they start skating, usually around 11 or 12 years of age, it's already deeply ingrained in them that being an ass bandit is wrong and immoral. whether homophobics begin to skateboard or not is completely arbitrary, it's definitely not anything that can be linked directly to skateboarding.

i'd say it has been and still is, but that the tide is changing a bit. skateboarding generally mocks that which is overtly macho, but also that which is not macho enough- skating "like a girl" or being a "fag" are pretty common disses. i don't know why either. skating is generally pretty tolerant and accepting when it comes to so many other things- race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, etc- but sexual preference and gender equality, not so much. ms steamer did a lot for female skaters, and maybe the same will happen for homosexual skaters when the day comes that a pro of note comes out or arrives, who knows. i think it will be a good thing for skateboarding. but as for why it exists in the first place, i don't know.

i guess its not really skateboarding alone, i mean, what the hell where are all the gay footballers/soccer players/basketballers/tennis players/~~rollerbladers~~ (well..)?

they are in the closet because otherwise their career would be over.

I don't think it's skaters really. Or skaters are MORE homophobic than general public. A lot of kids are hp and A LOT more kids skate now, many who won't be skating 5 years from now. So that's why I think there are more. More general public kids skating = more homophobes. Hopefully skateboarding will correct their thinking and they will see what a forward thinking activity/artform it is.

But I mean, you ever play Counter Strike or COD online? 70% of kids are homophobes/racists/gangsters or all three. Not sure if it's really isolated to America but it seems so...

I don't know I just don't understand that skateboarding that at one point of its life had to do with punk rock would be so mainstream in it's treatment of people who are slightly different from the people who take part in it.

Theres a local at my park whos like 35, genuine nice guy, but when i was about 12 i used to go to his house all the time and eat pizza and shit and think it was fine. He had a dildo on his wall and a table covered in shemale porn, pretty funny. I see all the 12 year olds now like 'WOW UR SO GREAT LTES BE FRIENDS' because he can do all these cheese adnc rackers mini tricks and its a bit weird.
