I know Cliche and Blueprint have given up a bit on their all Euro or all British skate teams but I always wondered why Australia never had a major board company with all the talent they have. ? Who do you think would make the best all Aussie team out of current or older skaters? ? Whether it's just a random group of good Aussies or people who fit together good on a team is your choice I guess. ? For starters:

The problem with starting a board company over here is

A: most kids don't want to skate, they want to scoot. This makes me sad, but maybe I'm just a cynical old bastard.

B: boards here are expensive. Reeeeeaaal expensive. Like $100 a pop. What reason would I have to spend $100 on a board per month when I can get 2 established manufacturer boards, shipped here, for the same price?

C: lack of exposure. This relates to point A in that, sure, skateboarding may be pretty popular in the USA at the moment, but it's still pretty much a nothing activity over here. Arguably, I would say that skateboarding reached its high-water mark in the late 90's in Australia and is unlikely to reach the same level again for a while.

If it were a viable, sustainable project I would start a board company today. Any company name suggestions?

the only reason local boards retail for the same price as american is because the american companies wouldn't be competitive in the australian market otherwise. of course australian boards could be sold at a good profit for 1/3 less than an american board, but if shops did that who would buy american product? it's a shitty situation, but that's what it boils down to.


after growing up in australia i feel really spoiled to be living in california and paying the super cheap prices for product over here

your right that show is a shocker, infact aussie tv in general is pretty shocking... i hate tv... one probelm we have in australia is that once we make over $50,000ish we must pay 40% in tax, as a result we get a pretty sweet health care bill and money for doing nothing (presuming you aint got a job) but the real problem is most of that money is spent on providing government jobs for stupid, power tripin' douches who serve no real purpose in life.

this ridiculously high tax is a serious reason as to why we could never have a major league fully pro skate team. why do you think modus lost there aussie tag as quick as possible. we don't get much hoon around here, i had a pair of there wheels, they were really bad but we do have a few small deck companies; Folklore, GMTA, Passport and Four,as a team they just seem to hook local dudes up with decks and a bit of cash for doing demos and that. deck quality is up there forsure.

as fare as my favorite all aussie skate team goes, this pretty much sums it up
