To me it depends if i like the graphic or not, if i dont like it; its inwards. If i do its outwards

I sometimes ride them outward, they usually burn off within two weeks.

Wheel graphics look awful even inward, I always rub them off now.

Why don't you just buy blank wheels?  :P

i don't see how they are distracting, you shouldn't be looking at your wheels while your actually skating...

I put the wheels with graphics facing outside, and after one sesh, they are gone. Problem solved.

A while back (2002) i was skating a really janky set up (chipped board, cracked ventures, yellow wheels) and i was at a demo with the AAcade team and andre genovesi hooked me up with his complete and the wheel graphics were faced inward so ever since then i've been placing the graphic facing inward. now a days i'll have two facing outward then the other two inward just to switch it up

every brand has such amazing graphics printed on their wheels (what up, i can use paint, some brand wants me as their wheel-graphic-designer?). why wouldnt you want to represent that?

The question still remains unanswered.

This trend didn't just happen without an innovator behind it!

We need to figure this out!

Wheel graphics used to only be on the inner radius where they wouldn't scratch up and look shitty.
I never got this, because even when you do put the graphics facing inward the graphics would scratch off very easily anyways because when you do 50-50s your wheels are rubbing against the edge of the ledge or coping, thus scratching the graphics off. If anything they probably scratch off the graphics faster if you have them that way, that is unless you never do any grind tricks.

I personally like the balance white wheels brings to the graphic. I don't remember the first time I did it but now it's the norm for me and almost every other skater out there and to put graphics out seems to attract ridicule from other skaters which is a little bullshit.

Because.... yes. And I was genuinely thinking about this. I was at a shop the other day with my girl and when she asked why I put the graphics inward and kinda shrugged and the kid that worked there said that anyone who doesn't was asking for mass amounts of ridicule from the skatepark.

it makes your bearings louder and thus makes your clip sound better on film.

I remember people started putting their wheels on with the graphics facing inward in the early nineties.

EXAMPLE:

1989 (outward)

1993  (inward)

I've been wearing them inward ever since..

The answer is Jason Lee around 1990. He would ride freestyle wheels inside out to have the round side on the outside(plus they were typically smaller than the "vert" wheels of the day), so not only did he start the trend of graphics inward, but he's responsible for wheels being smaller and round on both sides.

At least he didn't start another new thread about it. Proof the search function works and new posters should learn how to use it.

This stemmed from pros riding other non-sponsor branded wheels (flow from friends or whatever).
