Good interview, that rocco ad was great. I wish companies  still did that.

They would if Rocco was as cool with it as George Powell was and didn't sue.

Couldn't stand this guy when I was a kid but looking back he did some pretty hard to do shit (indy grab over  someone off a loading dock on a crutch with trucks bolted on it can't be easy). If he had focused more on shredding and less on being a clown who put out the ugliest pro model shoe ever he might still be relevant.

The part in the sonic video where he and the other dude 360 flipped and he landed on the other guys board was cool but the awful music he made that ended up in the big brother video and the christian thing just killed any hope that kids of today or anyone in the  future will remember him as anything other than some douchebag who wore a penny suit.

He was rad. He actually had a sense of humor during a time when everybody else was busy posturing. He was doing something different (and successfully at that) which is why I don't get people who hate him. And his shoe didn't look much different than the rest of Vans shoes during that period.
The other guy on the 360 flip was Jason Adams, btw.
Hosin' out the cab of his pickup truck

He did a demo in Baton Rouge maybe with the Sonic team, and he was amazing he didnt do too much gimmick stuff just really good skating.
He was just as good or better than any pro of that era, there was a fly out to beam thing at that park that every trannyish pro would do when they did a demo there Simon actually grinded the beam over a doorway to grab into another quarterpipe. Pretty much destroyed every fly every other pro did there. Grim do you remember that demo?

I've actually heard pros/ams from his time say that when he really skated he was pretty damn good, and the posts above back it up.

I'll never forget his pro model Vans shoe, there was a red and blue colour way that looked seriously like a clown shoe.  Ugliest, but funniest, pro model I've ever seen.  Alas it seems there's no photos of that colour online...

I'd rock the brown/gum ones.

I remember seeing Simon doing all his craziness on Mtv Sports with Dan Cortez.  Some stuff was kinda corny but I think that was sorta the point.  Nice to see someone doing their own thing and having a laugh.  Dude was obviously creative and talented.

I think I still have this shirt somewhere:

We brought them food and clothes too. It was a pretty amazing trip. Even if you set the Christian aspect aside, the kids were just sooo stoked to see skateboarding for the first time. It was amazing to be a part of that trip :)

Yeah, he has lost his mind. They skipped the part where he fought Shaun Palmer at ASR.
His pro was sick. Those Brown/Gum ones would be tight today.  Airwalk Bowler shoes are great too.

I actually did hit another skater in the face with my shoe once at a demo doing a shoes fly off kickflip but he was cool with it.

I think the Christian aspect is disgusting, and negates the positive things. The last thing Africa needs is religion.

It's cool, man.. Not really on here to discuss my faith. It just comes out in interviews like the ffl because it is part of my history in the 90s. Here's to fun skating. peace!
