His riser positioning made me die a little inside...did he get universals/ventures and not the made for thunders?

He set up the wrong risers for sure.

For sure wrong, but (I've never seen any of the 3-ply real risers first hand) even if he switched them around they still wouldn't line up 1:1?
[close]

I guess because I pay attention to all the little things, I find it almost unwatchable / laughable / sad that some people really don't even do just a little research to get a bit more of an understanding about skate product and it really shows here in his last few videos, the unboxing of the DLX package, the setup video, which I didn't watch past getting a pic of those wheels and then as others say, the finished product.  I don't want to sound rude, but goodness he comes off as a bit of an idiot with so little product knowledge of anything that he gets out or looks at, then more so with that setup video.

He skates with and films with Ben de Gros, who could well be one of the most detailed and knowledgeable people posting videos and information, so it is almost like two opposites when I watch both of them at times.

Re those Real risers, sure they might not have had the correct risers in stock at whatever shop he went to - there are Thunder specific (blue), Venture specific (green) and Universal (yellow - Indy specific without saying it) which are pretty clearly labelled on the website, but even a number of other brands that have the long holes will fit Thunders well, so I will just leave it at that.

Any which way, I will still be super keen on those wheels and I did like the look of them for sure!

Link to those Real risers:

His are green so he was sent the Venture risers so even if he flipped them they'd be off (but waaaay better); I agree his videos are tough to watch - like the pros that speak of their indy titanium baseplates =D

The most frustrating shit is hearing an actual pro skater talk about their gear and get it wrong. I guess that shit probably matters less to a lot of them since they just skate it and don’t go through board madness trying to figure out how to optimize their wheel shape in order to scoop tre flips

I thought he went out and bought those, which he did - just rechecked his previous video.

He can always go and buy the aftermarket white bushings for those trucks too - pretty easy.

The first rule I would apply is if you are about to do a video to put up on youtube, you should at least do some research and look into what the company is about, their latest products, their catalogs, etc.

* Sorry, mini rant over.

Ha yeah, as you said, I guess their ability to skate whatever they end up being sent is the plus for them, more so than their product knowledge, or lack of it, when it comes to some people - even some others I know who just skate and don't even think about what they are riding, who seem to be able to rip on anything and everything that they try.

I recall an Evan Smith video riding one 149 and one 159 truck, or John Gardner talking about switching out his ti axle trucks and putting hollow on cause they were lighter...  I guess that is also on the people making the video too - pull them up and don't post things that just make the guy or the brand look stupid.

Anyway, back to Spitfire wheels.

He bought them (he mentioned needing bearings and getting risers in his unboxing). That Gardner video was also the Ti baseplate one I believe; they pulled that video real fast.

Maybe it's just be, but if I'm repping a company that is paying/flowing me, I would want to be able to speak intelligently about the products/brands I'm working with. It's also on the filmer, editor, and whomever approves the video (Creative/brand managers).

Rad, can’t wait to try these.  Gonna support the local though first, and wait.

$47?!!!!!! :o
Daaaayum.

Gotta pay to play!

Tactics Spit wheel pricing is all over the place....you start thinking it's based on wheels size...but then nope...softer duro F4s cost more and then more if they are bigger...93a radials 58mm are $48.95...even the 97a are more than 99s...(unless on sale).

Seems like the smaller Classics are almost sold out, then the Radials have way more in stock, especially the 56 mm size.

Funny how the smaller Classics sell faster, or Classics in general - roughly 10 or so of them with 2 of the 52 mm size, unless they didn't get as many as they did with the Radial shape wheels - still 20 or so of each.

I know wheels over 56 mm were more expensive, regardless of the duro or shape.  I think all newer wheels going forward are going to be more expensive though.

Same with DLX boards over 8.6 - the 8.75 and up are all in the higher price bracket.

* Just checked again and the Classics are almost all sold out now.  Better get in quick if you want any from there.

We have them on the site today. The bigger radials only have a few. Classic Reynolds 54 and radial 54 we have more.

Great insight. Very useful clips too, shows lots of sliding and crust skating.

So hyped on these, grabbing myself radials and classics in 54s

I tried to skate a variety of terrain that day, and the manny pad and bump are pretty much unskatable on 99’s.

what do you think the chances are that the Skatepark of Tampa would have these wheels by Friday...?  :-X  REALLLY hoping I can get some while I am on my trip cause we are not gonna see these in Canada til Christmas time im guessing  :'(

I DM'd and they said there is basically zero chance they would not get a Reynolds wheel in stock at first available chance so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Got some of the 93 58 Radials, but currently snowing outside. Hoping to skate them tomorrow or Wednesday.

You can't order somewhere and give as the delivery address wherever you'll be staying in Tampa?

As a heads up, looks like you’ve got them listed under Burton as the brand. Don’t want anything to get thrown off with your inventory/spreadsheets.

Thanks for posting the shop’s link and much respect for the review.  Our experiences with the 97a FF sound similar and you’re getting me excited saying the slide is better.  Picked up a set from your store and I’m really stoked to try!

you sound like such a snob... sorry not everyone is a gear nerd and knows about every single product on the market

btw you gave someone incorrect measurements for the limo 8.25 on this post:
https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=120185.msg4178697#msg4178697

Yeah, that is quite ok - everyone has opinions and I have no problem with that, but if you are going to post something to a youtube channel and you want to actually sound like you have a clue, a little bit of prior knowledge goes a long way.

For any other normal person, of course no one (myself included) knows everything and yes I get some things wrong and that is also ok, because I am not trying to make a living from posting youtube videos, or have associated business interests invested in skateboarding.

Can I be a bit of a snob with regard to skateboard product, for myself, maybe, but when dealing with the general public especially with regard to their own interests and preferences - absolutely not, so it is usually down to what they like and want, not what I would say to them to get, which I have to say, I have heard all too often from people saying the shop guy was trying to sell them something they didn't really want.

As an example, not everyone rides Spitfire wheels, Indy trucks and Antihero boards in Vans shoes and Dickies pants - help us all if we did on that one - but I guess there will always be those people who push their own preference of brands on others, which is a little bit sad, to say the least.

* Also those measurements came straight from the Limo site, so maybe take it up with them?

check the website again, the 8.25 is 8.25" x 31.82", 14.13" Wheelbase

not '8.25" x 32.25" with a 14.4" WB' as you incorrectly stated

OK, I don't know where that first one came from then, unless I took another board measurements from a copy and paste, but any which way, I was wrong.  I have corrected the post and personally thanked you for the help here.  After all, we are all here to help each other.

I am also feeling guilty for breaking my rule of only ever posting positive things on here, so Adriano, I am sorry for saying you sound like an idiot.

Who is this kook calling Brimmo a snob?

It's quite ok.

Sometimes I need to be told to pull my head in, like anyone, from time to time.  It is a good moment to reflect and take a breath as I think I have been a bit manic lately, so all good and don't kook him.  Kook me if anything, cause I doubled down on dumbassery.

End of story.

* This might sound like a whinge or whatever, but it is not.  It is actually a sincere post, because at almost 50 years old, I don't have time for games or silliness and I am all about the skateboarding, not politics or playing whatever games some people play, so hopefully this is done now.

Back to Spitfire wheels.
