I legitimately can’t make my mind up on these 93’s after 5 weeks on them. Idk, maybe it’s some part of me that doesn’t want to feel old riding a softer wheel but I’m starting to miss the feel of “normal” wheels.

On one hand, they offer a safety net for slipping out which is great, possibly the biggest benefit aside from them absorbing more shock from rolling over rough terrain and cracks. On the other hand, I just feel slower when I push. Not like I skate super fast or anything but it’s kind of a feeling like trying to punch underwater when I push. Not really a problem for single trick attempts where you throw your board down and push once for an obstacle nearby, but just pushing around a skatepark or any ground remotely smooth I felt like my effort doesn’t meet the expectations engrained in my muscle memory from years of riding a harder wheel.

Then there’s the wheelbite, I wish I’d have gone 52mm for the classics because a 54 just seems to be hindering a lot of my landings and flip tricks which was never a problem on a 99. The amount of times I felt the wheels stick to the board upon landing, pitching me off has become a bit of an annoyance. This also goes for tricks that require or would be saved by a pivot to regain control, the 93’s have stopped dead in their tracks and made me miss a trick more than a few times now, depending on the ground.

They don’t feel too bouncy or sound awful like other softer wheels on the market but they don’t feel like a traditional formula 4 either.
They slide fine against every material I’ve put them up against but my biggest issue is the lack of speed (that I’m used to) while pushing around. I’m gonna try to wear them down further before I decide if I’ll retire them as a “certain spot only” wheel or adapt myself to running them full time. I’m truly on the fence here.

If wheelbite is an issue it sounds like you gotta hit Jim T up for some Ventures and awaken yourself vs. those Thunders. Between Thunders and Aces that are in your videos you have been on trucks that definitely can end up with a lot of wheelbite.

I never had an issue on 54mm even on forged thunders or super loose AF1’s. I’d sooner switch to a smaller 93 than ride ventures. No shade to venture enjoyers they’re just not for me.

Im on 93 classics, was worried about bluntslides but they work. Loved the dragons except for bluntslides (super sticky), hardly skate rails so did not care about the sound they did and the stickyness on rails.
Feel like dragons is faster then 93, atleast for me. But i probably skate slow either way ::)
And dragons rolled over pebbels where the 93 sticks.

Dont even know what to use anymore, probably cant go back to hard wheels again, so its either 93 och x97

X99 to solve all your madnessesses

I agree, the x99 for some reason feel better than the x97. The dragons are nice for a cruiser you wanna do a little skating. The f4 93 I like a lot for hard street skating that’s somewhat forgiving.

For me its between the x99 and f4 93 on regular setup/everything everyday skating

I think if you want slightly softer feeling the bones is always the way to go

The f4 93 feel like a regular f4 with some forgiveness to rough ground

I'm really hopeful for the Spit 97a reformulation, I want the X99 performance but with the sound of spit 93s...after all the soft wheel riding and spit 99/101s I've done over the past few months I find it funny I'm riding 103 STFs...slide amazing and that sort of plasticky feel (and sound) feel less hard/vibrate less than spit 99s.

I am also torn with what duro to skate, if im in the streets lately it's been the 97. I can also do the 93 but they have limitations with pinch on feebles and smiths. I noticed they bite on my board and stick.
At skateparks and smooth ground I would prefer the 99 but the second I'm in the streets I just want my 97's back.
So for now I'm back on 97's fulltime, excited for a version that slides better but have no complaints with the ones I'm currently on(56 radial full).
My big gripe with 93 was for a specific spot or two i regularly skate and crook/noseslide seem to stick everytime. Probably my lack of skill mostly but I need all the help I can get.

The 93 stick worse on park coping than the 97. I thought the 97 were meh before, but I appreciate that they don't stick on park coping at all and take some (not much) bite out of street terrain.

I am on the 56mm Radials
I am sliding pretty well on them I have to say, not hanging up on feebles on double siders or anything.
They dont feel slow at all to me. And I dont feel like I am wheelbiting on these Indy standards. The setup sounds like absolute shit though. Rattley as fuck with rails, wheels hardly make any sound, and the indy squeak ;D
For shitty spots this feels so much better than skating 99a to me.

I am still using my 99a setup for skateparks / perfect ground spots. i gotta just have 2 setups lol. i would actually have to choose the 99a setup if i had to pick one still i guess too.

Can't be arsed to swap wheels from spot to spot.

Current street/spot/crust setup: X99 (gonna try out the Spit 93s for comparison soon)
Park/smooth ground setup: F4 99

X97s have become obsolete for me. They kinda fall in between everything. They don't bring any advantage over the X99 in my opinion, they're slower than most wheels and if it's mega fucking crusty, I'd rather go for Dragons, but anyway I seem to favour the X99 in pretty much any conditions these days.

do you ever try Scotch padded mounting tape under the rails? Works really well to dampen the noise.

On a side note, just picked up some 54mm Radial 93s, and it looks like the color is slightly translucent white, at least more so than my 99s or 97s.  Is it safe to say F4s lean more towards potato for harder duros, and more white for softer?

Nah X97 are still good for older rougher parks and street spots, more grip than X99 which still feel hard. They feel closer to F4 93a, Dragons for the crustiest of spots.

Crazy price. Here in Finland they are 59 euros and that's still expensive. 99d/101d are 49 euros.

I been watching sapphire and 93 videos again.

How the fuck do they get um to sound like that? There's gotta be a 101a core. My 97s seat tolerance was insanity tight too. I was looking for cracks to form for about a week but DLX has urethane down af.

Bones is supposed to super science but I feel like dlx is actually that Edward scissor hands looking kid frying frogs with a with a Bunsen burner in the back of the room. They secretly already going to Harvard Med in their off time between band practices...

You know like Acid wheel company looks.

I like your reviews and content a lot and thought maybe you had reviewed Ventures, but didn't see a video of them. Have you tried them recently? I thought that there was just a ton of hype around them and I hadn't ridden them since the SC days and was pleasantly surprised when I tried them again recently. I can run them effectively looser feeling than Thunders or Indys and still have good stability. Given you have Ace, Thunder, Slappy, and I think Indy (maybe I saw wrong) on the channel that could round out the top tier.

Hey thanks, dude! I’m just not trying to mess with my WB anymore since I feel like I’ve finally found the sweet spot and tbh I’m just not a fan of the triangle shaped hanger on them. Also they carry a bit of a negative connection for me personally because about a year ago another youtuber who I thought I was cool with started a bunch of drama saying I was biting his style, totally caught me off guard. He had recently switched to ventures and in his DM to me he said something along the lines of “what are you gonna do next, ride ventures?” Lmao. Super dumb but it only solidified me not wanting to ride ventures. That guy sucks. Maybe I’ll give them a shot if they come out with something new but right now I’m looking forward to the new design Thunder is rumored to be working on.

Definitely going to try that!

Putting thin 3M tape under your rails is a game changer. Let's you line them up before screwing down, helps them stay put if a bolt breaks free (not for long) and for sure helps the rattles if your application/screwing down was off in anyway,

Yeah 97s dawgs. This day was insane. I got a sick dinner and help with the tire out of being a good brother.

Now I'm going for a cruise to burn of this crazy ass burger I just got.

Yo village tavern if you're ever at the mall in Salem. They got a lil dancing going on on weekends. I'm not invited tho. No spikes allowed on the dancefloor. Not after the last time

Hit me up tho. I can see it out my window. It's attached to my curb. An two covered spots. One has granite ground. The other Isa parking garage.

Maybe I’ll give them a shot if they come out with something new but right now I’m looking forward to the new design Thunder is rumored to be working on.

for me, i conclude that its kevin nicetry. dont want to assume but it sucks that he seems so chill but acts that way towards a fellow youtuber.

Damn, good guess
Dad Boards way cooler than Kevin. No offense (maybe a little offense) but no one is trying to look or skate like Kevin Nicetry. Head in arm pit fake steeze having same tired tricks and spots having mf. I just treated this reply as my personal bunt rapid fire. Fuck it.

I won’t argue any of that, and thank you, dude 🤝
But his accusations were around me biting his videos. I found it funny because for the most part any non pro skate youtuber is basically just making videos about gear and learning tricks or discussing some aspect of skateboarding pertaining to regular people who do it for the love. I was gonna make it a big deal when it happened and put screenshots and shit in a video but decided the situation was too kooky so I just blocked him and moved on. Happy I didn’t make it a thing because I think he expected me to and get him more views. Who fuckin knows.

Man don't let that dude ruin something for ya. But, I guess that's why I never rode Indy's growing up- some jock kid in an Indy shirt spit chewing tobacco on my board and I was convinced they were heavy and for jocks. My mom got me a Christmas complete with them (Shortys Peter Smolik, had neon green pig wheels) and I traddd brand new Indy's for some dudes used Thunders at the skatepark.

No clue where I was going with that. I've never found that dudes videos or obsession with Janoskis super interesting so I'm happy to give you my views instead.
