I too have an mpeg, approx. 1.9GB, and a few weeks ago I tried converting it to VOB but it wasn't happening. I sourced that mpeg from this thread a while back. The problem is the frame size. DVD is 720x480 US or 720x576 PAL. The mpeg I have is very good quality but was transcoded to 640x480, so the app I use won't allow authoring to VOB / DVD folder structure. It would be possible to re-transcode that file to a compliant frame size but general rule is you never want to re-transcode something that has already been transcoded because the video quality will degrade. I think there may also be a method to fill that missing space with black bars to make it DVD format compatible, but not something I have tried. Anyway, I digress, there could be a native DVD frame size transcode out there somewhere (I too would like to upgrade this video), but I'd be surprised if it showed up.

The more I read in this thread about proper VHS transcoding techniques, the more I think we need an agreed upon standard for preservation of these rare and quickly disappearing videos before it's too late. I'm sure there would be some differing opinions on minimum frame size and format preference, but personally I'm of the mind that VHS transcodes should be in native DVD resolution mpeg or VOB folder structure for physical DVD player compatibility. Sure, mp4 is a way more efficient codec with equal to or better than quality than mpeg 2 in half the file size, but for physical player compatibility, mpeg 2 / VOB is still king.

Hey. New user here. I have quite a few dvd's and vhs's that I will be converting soon when I get some equipment. Thought I would ask for some vids that I never personally owned but would love to have a digital copy.

Thrasher - Scorchin summer
Thrasher - Hitting the streets
Thrasher - Vidiot
Thrasher - Hillbilly roadkill

Thanks

I have an idea for fans of the 411vm collection. I'll try to make this fast and simple. We need high quality 411vm rips, issues 2-44 (everything that was released only on VHS, not DVD). I was wondering if any people on this forum, maybe 5-10 people (or more people if there is enough interest), who would be interested in purchasing a few tapes each off eBay or wherever, digitizing them in high quality, and then sharing them here. Each person obviously would need to already have the proper equipment to do this. For example, if we had like 9 people involved, the nine of us would need to purchase about 5 tapes each. I know earlier 411s are more valuable, so one person could maybe be in charge of buying: issues 5, 6, 7, 43, 44. Another person responsible for issues 2, 8, 22, 23, 24, etc. Something like that. There are ALWAYS 411s being sold on eBay, Etsy, Mercari, etc.

Anyone interested in something like this? I'm happy to organize and arrange it if anyone is down. I REALLY want the entire 411 collection as high quality rips, and I know I'm not the only one. And I'd be happy to spend maybe around $50-70 or so to buy five 411 tapes if several other people did the same!

Lemme know! \m/

I like the idea but I don't have the proper equipment and that's probably the case for the majority of us. What about a funds pool where we can donate to a crowdfunding and someone with the equipment and skills to properly digitize the tapes in the highest possible quality can use those funds to buy the tapes and digitize them? There's a trust issue there but personally I would be down to throw in around $50 to a reputable / established sharer on this thread no problem as long as that person agrees to share it obviously. May even be able to resell the tapes when done and recover costs.

For sure, yeah. They have shared a TON of stuff on here. If we get something like this going, I'd also be down to chip in some money if that's how it's organized. I thought of mentioning doing it that way as well, but yes, there definitely needs to be a lot of trust all around for that, haha. Well in the mean time, I'm going to share some VHS rips that I made from my collection, and I'm still going to start looking for old 411s for a reasonable price online. Here are a few of my rips. Hey. New user here. I have quite a few dvd's and vhs's that I will be converting soon when I get some equipment. Thought I would ask for some vids that I never personally owned but would love to have a digital copy.

Thrasher - Scorchin summer
Thrasher - Hitting the streets
Thrasher - Vidiot
Thrasher - Hillbilly roadkill

Thanks

These are all in the Thrasher box set. Here you go! (Thanks to the homies on this thread for supplying me with these videos).

Wow thank you!

Do you by any chance have the first disc too? I have the truth hurts and sponsor me on vhs but would save me some time from converting them. And these are probably slightly better quality as well.

Lemme know! \m/

I LOVE THE IDEA!!!!!!!!  :)  :)  :)

If anyone got Professional/Good/Clean 411VM VHS Digitzed Copies, please upload:D

So we know which ones are missing and we can complete the 411VM VHS List!  8)

I'd be happy to work on this with you all! Funds are tight at the moment because I just bought a 3' H x 12' W x 22' L mini half for our yard from Keen... very psyched about that!!! However, I can be the designated digitizer if you all want to organize the purchases, then mail them to me. I literally just do this while I'm working my day job from home. If any of you were around when I got my brothers box of VHS tapes you know how quickly I do this stuff.

Just let me know if you get enough people to go in on this. I'm happy to help!

Also, stay tuned for some DVD ISO uploads this week... I just got a few crazy underground pool skating DVDs!

I know some smart guys with a good gear to do it. The ones I know are: natelona forever, evil1000 and Havenz
Maybe theres someone else though.

Sounds like a good plan! I've got proper equipment to do this. And I still have some 411 tapes laying around. #41, #45, #46, #56. I'll try to start with those soon :)
