socalskateshop and skatewarehouse just got some v3's in, much cheaper than getting 'em direct from theeve

just got mine today and i gotta say they feel nothing like the thunder lights i had on there. i took the bottom washers off and left the medium bones on and holy shit. need to put the hard's on ASAP. super loose, but still felt pretty good. nice to go back to a higher truck, but they are going to take some getting used to for sure.

I want to get a pair of TiH and put the hangers on ACE's magplates

fyi: theeve hangers on ace bases alleviates the old bushing problem
[close]

This is with the older Theeves right? I still have my CSX and they have a lot of life in them yet, it would be good to use them once my ace hangers are done.
[close]

Yeah V2 and previous had a nasty rep for de-coring bones meds, but I didn't have the issue when I put em on my ACE baseplates.

I've just put the CSX hangars on Ace baseplates. Unfortunately my knee is a bit fucked at the moment so I cant try it out yet. The difference in size really struck me though; are 5.5's the equivalent of 139?

Theeve has odd sizing.

The 5.5 has an 8.18" axle.

yeah, that chart is weird it sorta makes sense...but they should just list the exact measurements like they used to

however, I ride 8.1s and the 5.5s fit just fine, the outer edge of my wheels are lined up perfectly with the edge of the deck

yeah im rolling with the 5.5's on an 8.0 myself. I prefer to have MORE truck under me than less. Axles barely sticking out dont really bother me at all plus if i wanna up my board size a lil bit ill be all good.

Me three, I ride the 5.5 and a DLX 8.18, about as flush as can be. The 5.5 is just a bit wider than the 139 (.18" to be exact)

Thanks Xen. I ride 8.5 boards and 5.5 hangars just feel too narrow to me; I'm going back to my Ace 44s for now. I did set the CSX hangars up really loose though so they would be squirrelly like Aces and noticed that I was getting a lot less wheelbite than usual. I may have to look into getting an appropriately sized pair when my Aces are done.

anyone else riding the v3's notice that the top washer is digging into the hanger? i guess it's to do with the yoke.

How the kingpin clearance of the new theeves compare to say some thunder 149's? Loved my old CSX's save for the bushing issue and would wanna try theeve out again.

Noticeably better. That was why I made the same switch from thunders to theeves in the first place. It's a much "beefier" grind in my opinion

Noticed this on my own trucks but I didn't really think itd hinder performance or durability so I didn't pay it any mind. Does it fuck with your trucks after a while or is it purely cosmetic?

never messed mine up, if it bothers you, you can always take the washers out- I took the bottom one out because I like mine loose and the nut wouldn't grab enough thread of the titanium kingpins(which is noticeably shorter than the steel ones)

I absolutely hated the theeve trucks I had. A friend of mine had them and hated them, so he gave them to me. Probably skated them for a week tops. They feel like they don't and they don't grind. I can't think of a worse truck. I tried loosening them up witch only made them wobbly and still not turn. I would never suggest them to anyone, but if they work for you guys then keep going with it

I just won some of the CSX V3's on their Facebook page and they arrived today. I took them apart and compared them to my current TiAx ones and you can see the difference, really stoked I got them for free. I'll let you guys know how they skate in a week or so.

Funniest thing is, when I was putting in my email, I was talking to my friend about how it seemed like the contests were fake. We had never heard of anyone we know winning, so we figured they probably just put an employee's name on there. Two days later I got the Email.

nah it doesnt really bother me just something I noticed. I know what you mean by the replacement kingpin tho. Mine was kind of short when i first put it on so i just took off the hanger & bushings, then pulled up and held the kingpin as i put everything back on. Seems to be pretty much the same height as they were stock. i mean its barely that much taller but it does give you just a tad bit more thread to put the nut on.

even tho its not a big deal, i was thinking they could probably get rid of the washer digging into the truck by using regular old-fashion washers instead of "skateboard truck" washers. Like, they could just get a thin flat ring that covers & sits flush with the yellow part of the bones bushings. probably not something thats TOO much of an improvement but I guess for some people it could help. might even make turning a tad bit sharper too.

Take the top washer off. You don't need it.
I've been riding all my trucks washerless for a long while now, and I have not gone through any bushings period.
No top washer makes for the best, smoothest turn. If you think you'll crack the bushing or someone tells you that doing that cracks the bushing I got 2 things to say to that, 1 - they are riding their trucks too tight and 2 - loosen your fuckin trucks.
...and maybe 3 - lose weight. Skating "tight as a 10 year old" trucks when using some high end trucks or great bushings like Bones is just a waste of a good turn. If someone wanted tight trucks and that barely turning feel, use the trucks that excel at that, Tensors.
But even Bones in them w/ no washer would save the day!
Good luck!

fucked up my baseplate/pivot cup today skating this oversized stairset. I was trying to back 180 ollie north it and basically i landed and shot out into this nearby parking block (the really low ones) and when I went to check out my board, the entire hanger was swung around on the opposite side, with the metal on the pivot cup bent out of shape. I unscrewed the hanger & put it back in and continued to skate the set. it was my last session in my hometown before moving, so I wasnt gonna go out on some fluke shit, especially when tryna get this trick. anyways, several tries later i land the exact same way, my board hits the parking block, and it happens AGAIN only this time the actual pivot cup came out of its socket. again, i put on my hanger again and continue to skate the set, eventually landing it after a long, strung-out gap battle in 91 degree weather. my truck pretty much felt the same and remained as stable as ever, but i dont like the idea of skating on this shit for too long. i would probably try to just send it in but im hitting the road to move on monday & will be doing that for a few days so ill probably just end up getting some new trucks at Cowtown in AZ. I've tried all the "big" brands except indy's so im lookin at those hollow stage 11's. anyone have any experience with those? anyways, here's what my baseplate looks like. i tried to hammer it back in after taking this pic but that didnt really do anything.

Go with the new Mini Logo trucks...they are secretly the best trucks out there...I'm 1000% serious.
Try them and you will know.

Read some reviews. They are only branded ML to give people the chance to get good trucks at a value.

Best standard truck on the market. I've skated them all, over 2 and half decades of em.

i'm kinda surprised they don't do a 100% titanium baseplate. seems like that would have been the more obvious move, even over the hangar.

I was a thunder 149er for life. Still am.

BUT my homie at Antics hooked me up with some Theeves of the same size and god damm they are a good truck!!!  Super good and would definitely buy a set if I had to.

Shame it's all Trevor Wards deal now and will probably go to shit.

I assumed they were but yeah....they aren't....started doing nose slides again and I'm surprised on the wear up against the mounting holes....

Saw they have a hollow baseplate Tih but I suspect it's not titanium...

are all theeve truck hangers titanium?

speaking of titanium; the thunder and independent titanium ones - are they just titanium axels or is the actual hanger made from titanium as well ?

I believe the hangers are made from a titanium alloy, with the tiax having titanium axels & tikings have titanium axels AND hollow titanium kingpins. the TiH hanger is made entirely of titanium with the "axel" just being like 2 separate rods coming out of the sides instead of one whole axel going thru the hanger. thats why they say it totally removes the chance of axel slip in their marketing.
