Wow, fuck you Australia, none of your parks are innovative.

What a load of shit.  I saw some pretty innovative parks down under.

some beautiful stuff there. Maybe not the "most" innovative (I agree that some of those australian builders like Convic need to be on that list, as does some of the better diy stuff, like Berlin or Burnside), but some truly interesting designs nonetheless.

I think should be at least one on the list from Australia not none at all.

Whoa! I wrote this list for Complex and someone jacked it and translated it. I know I missed some good parks. Sorry Australia, you know I love you. The title was supposed to be 30 Innovative Skateparks because saying "Most" just means people are gonna get pissed because I missed something. Some of the parks on the list aren't even the best looking parks, they just represent a different way of thinking.

Don't be sorry. Australia is majorly lagging behind in innovative skatepark design.
I know that on the east coast there are some interesting parks but over in the west we havent had a decent park built for a very long time and have 2 poor excuses for plazas

When I was doing research I noticed the west coast was mostly shitty parks and/or giant bowls. I think the west coast was ahead of the rest of the country in building skateparks but that meant they where all designed by pool dogs who don't know shit about street skating.

The tetuan plaza in Madrid is unreal, Another interesting thing is that the city allows people to add elements and change things as long as its done well. The put a new flat bar in on go skate day this year. There is another park similar in Madrid that was once a old roman bath house, but skaters have been installing flat bars, copping the ledges for a long time now without any issues from the city

Why isn't burnside on this list? That park changed transition skating and how parks should end up getting put in.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

Plazas and "skateable sculpture" (cringe) are the way forward. As an NYC native skate parks always felt foreign to me somehow. Both exotic and unwelcome. I skated Kessler's "Riverside" park for a few years, and while I respect his commitment to breaking new ground in the city, it never really worked for me, and I often ended up skating ledge and stair spots in my neighborhood instead. The change in thinking that seems to be taking place in municipalities around the country (of course Europe is 5-10 years ahead) is really encouraging.  I look forward to getting to skate some of these projects In the next few years...

Because its easy to make a list of innovative parks as long as they have been made a few years ago.  Some of the items on this list were as innovative as say Bondi which is in the shape of a shark from what I was told.  Gimmick shit.  Oh it's portable?  Innovative!

Whitegrounds looks awesome in pics but really isn't that great when you go there.
The rain still gets in and the place is full of rubbish.
Plus they have gates that they lock and it is only open certain times of the day.
Im pretty sure they have times when people over a certain age aren't allowed to skate as well

The park here in Norman, OK is pretty life changing.
Han solo blew up the Death Star in Episode 4.  Heard it from a friend.  Reliable source.

These parks were innovative for one reason or another. However, I don't think they are by any means good skate park designs.  But I guess that doesn't seem the be what the author is getting after anyways......sorry I'm drunk.

Theres's nothing innovative about having to pay to skate in full pads.
