What size Indys for 8.25"? 139 or 149?
« on: September 16, 2014, 11:52:31 AM »
I've been pondering upgrading the size of deck I use to an 8.25" (I tend to use 129s cuz I ride the 7.81" anti hero eagle deck repeatedly)... I know I'd use the 139s if I got an 8" board but for a lil bigger.... I've read a lot about 149's and the 8.25" size as well? Any info appreciated, thanks

I started skating 149's on a 8.25 a while back, then moved up to 8.5's and 8.375's, but more recently got another 8.25. I like the 149's a lot on all of those sizes. A 139 truck just doesn't feel as stable as I feel with 149's.

I'd say 149's

I rode 8.25 with 139's for a long time until last week, I got a pair of 149's.  The 149's feel so much better - definitely go with them

I like 139's more on 8.25's, they just feel lighter and quicker somehow. Also I'm a little weak.

149s if your range is likely to be 8.25-8.5 moving forward. Stick with 139s if you plan on staying in the 7.75-8.25 range.

I've tried 149's on everything from 8.0 to 8.5, and anything smaller than 8.375 I go with the 139's. I can't do trucks being more than .1 bigger than my board, the wheel bite seems to be much worse with the wider trucks.

just moved up to 8.25s from 8.1s like a month ago and 139s felt too small on the 8.25 so I moved up to 149s and it was an easy transition, 149s are the way to go

i feel like that's just because there is a smaller surface area to be grinding on and there for a shorter period of time before you feel the "lock in"... i personally find my ability to lock into grinds all dependent on how the wheels i have are cut. i love my 149's.

How much do 149's really stick out on each side? As in, noticeable or no?
and how is doing flip tricks with the 149s?

Stick out on an 8.25? You wont' even notice it.

Flip tricks are fine.

Had Ace 33 on 8.25 for a long time, recently got the 149 blue and white reynolds indys, and they definitely feel better. You don't see them sticking out at all.

I have a feeling I am going with 149's
something about "more to grind" sounds awesome. and "locking in" better.
I hope these 8.25's don't feel like boats after riding small boards though, I haven't ridden an 8.25 in ages

Shit and I just bought 139s a week ago, is 149 that much better? I can kinda see what you all mean by having more to grind, it seems like it'd make certain tricks like smiths easier.

149 is not better in particular, it just makes some tricks easier. What you could do to make it even more easy is stick to your 139's en ride 8 or 8.125 boards.

Didn't want to make another truck thread so I figured I'd ask here.

I've been skating some loose 139's for the past couple years, and have been cutting bushings with razor blades. The past few boards I've been getting are 8.5, and I needed some new trucks so I went with 149's, and swapped with my old bushings. Right away it felt like the 149's wouldn't turn nearly as sharp as the 139's did.

Was wondering if 149's just don't turn as well as narrower trucks, or if maybe it was something else like stiff pivot cups. Has anyone else had this issue with 149's?

Also, for any of you that ride wobbly trucks, how do you set them up? What sort of bushings/washers do you use?

^ The wider board makes the trucks more turny/wobbly, with 149's the leverage is different I think

Using the same bushings, a 149 will feel looser and easier to turn than a 139.  You probably just need to give the trucks time to break in.  Also, if they're Indy's don't both cutting bushings.  Just spend the $5 on the new Indy aftermarket ones.

These are insanely soft http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=49508

These are moderately soft and what most people that prefer soft bushings skate - http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=49509

The disadvantage of cutting a stock bushing vs. buying the proper bushing is you lose rebound and return to center with a cut one
