After the last disappointment with a girl deck (g052 made in China), which I found heavy, I'm willing to take the risk again assuming I was unlucky with the last deck.

Has anyone found the latest Chinese-made decks to be heavier than normal?

I’ve ridden several Girl boards and held a few dozen over the last 5 years and none of them have felt heavy. I know people think the Pop Secret decks are heavy, so maybe you accidentally got one of those?

It certainly wasn't pop secret, these ones I already know are a little heavier
Maybe I was unlucky.

I'll risk
thanks

I've also had about dozen Girl/Chocolate boards in the past two years and never noticed single one of them being heavy

FYI, Girl DM’ed me like a man when I commented about the shape guide on one of their Instagram posts. They said it will be back and that they’re updating the site. For whatever that’s worth. But glad to hear it’s not going away.

I hope this new shape guide gives us G028 back.

Preferably the original, but I’d take the Yonnie G028 if I have to.

I have found them to be heavier than BBS decks of equivalent size. The last G008 deck I got weighed over 1400 grams which is on the heavier side for an 8" deck. It's funny, my April 8.5 w/ Indy 149's actually weighed less than my Girl 8" with Indy 139's when I compared those setups. But at the end of the day, it's not enough weight to mess with my skating and they're good boards.

I still have a G028 from before the wood/mold change. Although I probably won't skate it, I take it out and stand on it from time to time and wish I could get some more. The updated version didn't cut it.

I talked with some of the Chocolate guys and they mentioned a possible new mold in the future that has mellow kicks like they used to have.

I still have Kenny Anderson's "Karate Ken" deck and don't think I'll ever part with it. The original G028 shape was one of my favorite shapes of all time and I really wish Crail could bring it back on the better wood.

The og G028 was awesome in that it usually came in a Marc Johnson or Guy Mariano graphic.

I skated the Karate Ken. I’m pretty sure that one was the 31.625.

Anyone have success with crail/af1?
Preferably 8.3-8.5 range. Tried g030 but I’m thinking the fingers of flat threw me off… tricks I pop in the pocket were fantastic but off the tip (sw heels mainly) were a nightmare.

Yes, I had the Karate Ken board also. It was 31.625. I believe a G023 shape.

I ordered a G089, has anyone tested it yet? Is it mellow like the G052?

I’m on a G089 right now and it feels great. Nice and mellow concave and a straight rail through to the tail so no taper, which I love. Kicks are around 19 degrees so definitely on the mellow side. For reference my PS Stix made Quasi is around 22 degrees for the nose/21 degrees for the tail.

Indy Hollow 149s. Probably not the greatest choice considering the 14” wheelbase, but it feels comfortable to me. I’m just used to Indys.

I just weighed my DLX 8.75x32.6 deck (50.5oz) vs Girl Brophy 8.8x32.6 (53.5oz), so yes, slightly heavier than BBS but fairly negligible.

Crail boards have been under my feet for sometime now. I haven't noticed any difference in weight or feel between the g052 im skating now and ones i've skated in the past.
We rode 7.5's" and didn't complain.

Dude that’s so weird, when I saw this convo about heavy decks I went to weigh the only two fresh decks I have which are the DLX 8.75x32.6 and the Girl Brophy 8.8. Weirdly enough though I’m getting pretty different weights than you. DLX 43.3oz, Brophy 49.8. Are yours gripped? I figured part of the reason Broph is heavier is due to the straight rails (vs tapered DLX) and it’s also a bit longer in person.

Is anyone able to give me some more info on the go23 shape? Looking at getting a couple. i am currently riding a primitive 8.125 with Venture 5.2 highs and wondered how they compare? I love the full round nose and Steepness of the kicks on my primitive and the shape of the nose on the girl looks great but unsure on the steepness of the kicks.

Idk

Most Crailtap noses are mellow. The G026 was mellow for me but I can’t for the life of me remember the steepness of the G023 just that it had a pointy nose.

Both the nose and tail on the girl are not quite as full/round.  Less concave on the girl, tail slightly steeper on the girl.  I enjoy both of these boards though.

I straight up DM'ed them a couple weeks ago about it because I was worried it had gone away. Haha.
