I am always suprised about how short some pros are when I see them in person. Heath is probably 5 foot 6. Jon Dickson is maybe 5 foot 4 and I thought he was a big and tall guy. Foy must be really short too. That's probably the reason why he can skate how he does and still be a bigger kid. I am willing to bet that if he was a foot taller and had the exact same stature he would not skate nearly as good as he does. Most of the tall pros seem to be really skinny.

Pretty much all pro skaters are short. It has to do with center of balance. All tall pros were short when they started and then had a growth spurt and somehow figured it out ie Reynolds.
[close]

That's what happened to me, only I didn't figure it out like Reynolds did and now I suck  :-\ lol.

I never thought of this way, I guess it's true for gymnasts too, both activities have similar aspects: http://www.livestrong.com/article/546292-what-is-the-advantage-of-a-gymnast-being-short-in-stature/

Isn't it easier to pop high with longer legs though?
[close]

You would think that right?? But as I was going through my growing phase my pop has slightly gotten worse over time.  I lost my ability to do certain tricks too, which was a huge bummer.

most of my friends who can pop tricks pretty high are short, i'm 6.1 and can barely ollie up a 4 stair

Walked passed Heath at Black, and was really surprised by his height, I'd say he is closer to 5 foot 10 though. Always thought he was my height based off his footage (In the 6 foot 2/3 range).

No way is he 5' 10". I am 5' 11 and he was significantly shorter than me when I met him last summer.

Hmm so is this why skaters like vx 4:3 footy because it makes them look taller than they are.. Or maybe I need to take my tinfoil hat off...

Kind of weird realizing all these skate heroes are lil people...

Heath is probably 5 foot 6.

i saw him at house park and he seemed average height to me unless he was rocking some huge riser pads.

Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

That Mystery team photo is amazing! You almost can't spot the difference

The average height for citizens of USA is about 5 ft 9 in according to this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_average_human_height_worldwide

so to be shortie it's about 5ft7in?

this is kind weird seeing so many of my favorites are so small. Maybe gilby crockett skating waist high ledges wouldn't be as impressive if we saw someone like Jake Johnson at the same spot and it only being knee high for him. Not that I don't like both of them though just wondering..

I heard Torey Pudwill is midget sized in real life, I was surprised considering the sizes of ledges that guy gets up on.

I heard he only rocks them RB beanies to add another six inches.

I watched a video about box jumps once and they were talking about how doing really high ones is not the same thing as vertical leap - it’s mostly about sucking your legs up to your body. “pop” in skating is a pretty similar motion so being short wouldn’t be a problem for that.
