In my experience, that last sentence is not true. Gifted Hater's pretty well known at this point. The only skaters I know that don't know who he is are people who don't really connect with any skate media. Like, dudes who just skate and don't watch videos or know who any current skaters are.

Kaue Cossa a pro for habitat had a recent beef with Atali Mendes(i think she skates for dc shoes), she was skating in Vale do anhangabáu(spot with the marble ledges) he said some nasty things to her at the spot, she left and came back with her mom and stepfather, her mom hit Kaue with a board and her stepdad hit him too, This Kaue dude is hated by a bunch of people in Brasil but gets a lot of love from converse and some other brands, crazy stuff.
