Might be silly but it's legitimately adding to my seasonal depression sitting in the cold weather we're having and missing the slow impact talk with my favorite skater. Especially since I went last year and know how fun it was. Hopefully I'll have time to skate when it's warmer next week.

Just left Slow Impact. Agree with others saying the Reynolds looks way better in person than the watermarked AI mockup.

Interesting to hear that Andrew basically wanted a slimmed down more flexible 808. I think it took some nudging from the NB designers to push the design of the shoe in a more distinctive direction.

Jeff Mikut said he and Andrew negotiated “trades” on the 933 design. One example was the runner’s toe. Andrew wanted it. Jeff didn’t. They agreed to keep it, but in exchange, Jeff got to alter something (can’t remember) I think it was the mudguard. Someone with a better memory can correct me.

hahahaha that’s awesome! This is the type of shoe nerdiness I love!!! Hope they recorded the panel and post it online at some point
[close]

Want more shoe nerdiness? I guess they’re using an NB last for the 933 that hasn’t been used on any other shoe in the Numeric line. The team is so stoked on how the 933 turned out that they’re gonna start using the 933 last on other NB# shoes. I asked one of the product managers if that included the 1010. He emphatically said no. Too many people are stoked on the 1010, they’re not gonna mess with it.
awesome insight. Thank you. Really cool

The talk was filmed, but please ease anticipation, the media team isn't going home till next week to start editing and there will be rough cuts sent to NB for approval before anything is posted so unfortunately it may be a while before the video is up. It was a slide show of the process and a quick q&a.
It was very in person ordeal.

Can we have a decent photo of the shoe please? Cat's out of the bag already for a while.

I saw something 86mag posted that there are  design “notches” (for a complete lack of a better word) around the border of the sole of that correspond to important years in Andrew’s life.

After the Welcome Leeds store went over all their storytelling elements in their 440, I’m always excited to hear about personal touches like this.

That’s right. The years included when he was born, started skating (I think), went pro, got sober, became a dad, put out his Stay Gold part, and met the love of his life. I’m sure I’m missing a couple. Was cool to hear Andrew talking about these milestones.

I would have included the year an orangutan smashed a bottle on my head, but I’ve had a less eventful life

Literally no Reynolds footage coming out of slow impact? Or are they really holding it to reveal it later? I get trying to maintain hype but it really is going overboard and feeling forced now. Like making shops buy it blind is already a flex. Just let us see him in it if he’s skating an event.

sounds like the team is editing some of it now.

think “we” are in the minority thoug -  analyzing it on a skateboard forum. Overboard? They’re just being intentional IMO. And they deserve to be, this is years in the making, huge moment for the brand. Feel like Roth has been more than accommodating with early info/insight for us too!

Don’t think Reynolds skated. He spoke on a panel with Jeff Mikut about the design process. He and Jeff and a couple other NB# dudes were all rocking the 933.

The NB# crew said the “secrecy” around the 933 has been an effort to recapture the bygone era when there were no sneaker leaks and people just had to run to their local and get surprised by whatever was on the wall.

They had a table set up with production samples and a couple pairs of the release colorways. The brown pair and the black and olive. I wasn’t stoked on the black and olive from the leaked images at all. But they looked sick in person.

Lack of "proper" 933 leaks is next-level first world problem pantheon.

Trying to stock up on 808s before the new version of them comes out and found a pair of the all brown ones. Nordstrom rack has a few different colorways in almost all sizes if anyone’s interested, plus a bunch of other numerics. All at discounted prices.
