Stage 4 146's.

I think I'm gonna stick with classic shape 56's as far as wheels go, they wear down into wider smaller wheels so good compared to the other shapes, so no more madness there. I like how it makes the board a little easier to flip. I did however really like the way the wide wheels power slide though, they can really break loose as opposed to the narrow track on classics having more bite/grip.

I think where I'm at right now is wanting a tighter turn out of my indys / 14.25 wb. I tried AF1's for a couple years, ended up settling on the hard bushings, didn't like how the trucks always looked like this on the board / / like the bolt holes were drilled off or something, every set I had was like that. Didn't notice it skating. Missed the 55mm height of indys and the way they pinched and stuff

Prolly gonna put an extra washer on the inside to get the 146's to feel more like my 149's, might not bother tho. Might mess with bushings, try and 88d bottom and 90 or 92d top. Might try a stage 11 top bushing cause they're a little lower.  I like loose trucks but I don't like filing bushings or messing with the washers so much. Oddly enough I've found that I've come to live the sound of when someone throws their board down and I can hear their roadside bushing washers jingling

Anyone have suggestions for a decent tripod at around the $35-50 dollar range for iPhone clips? Also are there any lens attachments one can buy to make iPhone clips look a little crispier?

I am a photographer so I have a full tripod but there are loads of options now made for phone use. They tend to be a bit less sturdy (they have shorter legs so don't come out as wide) but they do come with a phone mount. I'd look at NEEWER or similar if you want a dedicated one, otherwise check for secondhand 'travel' photography tripods and get a manfrotto pixi or similar to mount on it. It'll be a bit bigger packed down but probably better quality.

Thunder 151 Lights.

Been really enjoying my 148 Lights on 8.125 and 149 Lights on 8.25. Spent most of last year on Venture 5.8 V-Lights, but prefer the lower height and quicker turn of the Thunders lately.

8.5 deck is too big for me to ride as my main setup though, so I dunno why I keep thinking about this

Coming back to skating after a long time off. I sold off most of my gear but I kept a setup with Stage 10 169s and a load of Rainskates 62mm conicals. Man I miss Creative urethane. So much has changed.

So looking at actually getting back into it and I think it would be fun to focus on street/mixed transition furniture and some indoor park on a smaller board. I've been putting together a spec for this and I'd love some input as I mostly skated tech slide and downhill/garages on bigger boards/wheels.

Size/shape: I am going to try on my local shop for some 8.5" options, aiming to pick up either one of their boards or a local brand. This will be my first popsicle since 2010 when I sold an Earthwing 44" (Gerwer Grimple XL before it was a thing! lol)

Local shop:

Other local brand e.g. Forecast:

Trucks/bushings: I'm thinking of giving Slappy a go. I'm not sure my experience on Indies will actually translate to street etc as I used a longer kingpin to use double barrel bushings. I will probably get Riptide KranK as I had their bushings in everything else before I stopped skating and Tracey and Brad were always so cool and helpful.

Wheels: I last rode using 62-65mm or bigger. One reason I got into bigger wheels is because UK tarmac etc was (is) shit. I remember the sub-50mm street days and it just meant you caught pebbles constantly. I think the general state of local terrain is better these days but I'm not familiar picking wheel size for a board that isn't going to have loads of risers etc, so I'd appreciate any input here!

Brand and urethane options are way different to 15+ years ago; I have done some reading on here and narrowed it down to Spitfire F4 99 (or 97 if I can find it) or Bones X97. Not sure on profile. There will be some indoor and some mixed outdoor terrain so leaning towards the Bones if I can't find F4 97.

Bearings I have EEC or Zealous ceramics leftover so that's fine. Grip will be pepper probably. I think that's everything.

I am trippin on those mini SkateMafia decks.Seeing those dudes ripping on them makes me wann try but ain't sure it's worst the price...
Comin in late to say the micro Mafia is the most fun I've had with a gimmick skateboard in recent memory. I keep it in the car to swap to if I get bored on the daily driver.

Can't speak too much on street skating with it (still need to dedicate a street session on it) but I how find you much fun you have skating it is highly dependent on the park/spot. I find flowy, hybrid parks are the best, like the Evergreen park in CDA, ID is fun as fuck on the micro. I bet most Evergreen parks would be a good time just doing bumps and hot laps.

Personally, I don't think it would be very fun trying to skate a street plaza or a deep bowl on it, but YMMV. Mini ramp could be sweet, but it's been hard to get used to

It's really not to bad to get used to, I was pretty comfortable after about 4-5 hours on board, and the complete itself is a nice piece of hardware. I didn't really like the classic shaped wheels so I put F4 conicals on it, but the rest is fully stock. It honestly skates fuckin great.

Seeing the homies reactions and them being stoked to try the mini board out has nearly paid for itself in community hype alone. Feel free to ask me anything about the micro

6” is hilarious

Are they basically just a cheat code for flip tricks. Trucks turn decent around to get around? Or do you put different ones on

Thinking about getting light trucks. Likely Thunders but open to other brands. Something to fit an 8.75-9” board. Anybody got pros and cons?

Getting older, legs are always tired… feel like I would benefit from lighter trucks

Not lighter weight-wise, but pop-feel-wise... I'd say Ace AF1 Hollows. I put the ace hard bushings in mine and loved them. I'm only like 150lbs but the stock ones were too soft and I felt like they sucked my energy. The hards would still turn sharp if you wanted but still felt crispy and dry and stable on center. The pop angle is lower. Shorter wheelbase.  Spanky switched to Ace from Indy if that means anything. With a big board like that especially i'd recommend the aces

I tried them for a while and loved em, but found different ways to get around being old and tired, but still comfortable. I went back to indys(hollow standard) cause that's what I'm used to, but focused more on not buying any decks with a wheelbase longer than 14.25.

stuck to 149s cause that's what I'm used to. I tried 159s and 169s, bigger wheels and boards, but it was just too heavy and my flat ground flip tricks game suffered. If you have longer legs than me (I'm 5'8") an 8.75 makes more sense.

I think the spitfire 93d wheels or equivalent bones wheels help with soreness, and now I'm on these FP insoles which seem to help as well.

I think the ultimate old guy setup is Aces, soft wheels, and aftermarket insoles

Assuming you aren’t talking about the T2s, imo pros are they’re light, mid height (quicker pop), stable, have good pinch, and generally nimble. Cons are recessed baseplate (wheels touch on slides), not very turny, wheelbites easily, stock bushings kinda suck, and might not feel as light since the WB is pushed out further.. others might be able to add more detail

If you want something taller that feels more similar to Indy/Ace and still light, Lurpiv hollows might be a good option too

I’m getting ready for a new setup. I’m thinking of getting some sml wheels, the 55mm ag formula vcut grocery bags. I also just got some ventures for the first time after riding only aces for the past 5 years (Indy’s before that). I’m also thinking of getting either an 8.75 genesis video deck (bbs made) or prime wood la is doing a 2 for $60 deal on blanks so maybe the 8.75 from them. I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with sml wheels and prime wood. I haven’t skated a prime board in probably 7 years, the last one I had was a socal skate shop deck but it broke after 1 day. I wanna know if their deck quality got better. I just wanna find a good 8.75 deck with a wheel base between 14.5 and 14.75. I saw doom sayers is having a huge sale but don’t like the graphics of the 8.75s they have rn. And for wheels I just wanna try more smaller companies. Was contemplating maybe dial tone wheels, the 55mm aaron Herrington ones. I’m lowkey having madness rn so plz give me some input

I've been running old Thunder Hollow Lights with risers for pretty much the whole summer and coming from Ace Classics and Venture hi's, both with wider hangers too, it's been a very nice change to have a light board and also helped to lessen some knee pain. I also have skated Af1 Hollows previously and nothing wrong with them either. Especially with a wider board I bet either would be nice if it doesn't feel too weird to not have the pushback and momentum of a heavy setup.

Used to run the Af1's on wider shaped/reissue boards and it balanced out the heft of the board.

I think about getting some etnies cupsoles, they usually fit me feet better as most other companies. My usual NB# 600 feel a bit thin and the other models with a thicker outsole like the 1010 don't fit that well.

Anybody has tried a newer version of the etnies joslin or wallen it's called now? Or the etnies snake and scam? Those are the shoes that look like a comfy cupsole to me.

Haven't tried the Wallen "Joslin" replacement yet. Taking a break from Etnies to skate some accels, sb dunks, and OG-1 emericas.

The Snake and Scam have the same sole. It's noticeably softer and thinner than the Michelin sole. Still good to skate (grippy enough) and pretty durable according to what I've heard so far, but will feel different than Michelin. Also, they don't have the nice thick STI insole and I'd recommended swapping insoles if you're gonna try either of those. I've only tried these on in store and they felt fine. Nothing stood out to me about fit/comfort. Pretty standard, closer to middle of the road feel. They both look great visually, imo

snakes are pretty cool. they skate really well, flicks are on point, boardfeel is great and the durability is pretty fair. also the lace holes are set pretty narrowly so they don't hit griptape as much, i didn't have to switch out the laces at all and barely had to superglue them. it's a very slim shoe though and the stock insoles are pretty ass, so you'd probably have to put something else in there. scam has the same sole unit so it would probably feel similar, but from the photos i've seen it looks like the upper is a bit more puffy. if you want more support i'd look at the new accel, it has a full length midsole and skates incredibly well, the toebox is shaped perfectly for flicks. the shoe is definitely more puffy than the snake, but not overly puffy like the accel og, like it won't look dumb without baggy pants lol. i think some of the newer colors of the etnies lo cut reissue also have full length midsoles, but older colorways don't. personally i don't mind egg crate construction, i just stack 2 thin insoles on top of each other and it works for me, but if the 600 feels too thin i think the snake/scam won't be the right choice for you. not that they're not comfortable, they felt nice, but the midsole makes a big difference.

Thanks to both of you. I am not sure if I necessarily need a midsole but as far as I know, the Wallen does have a midsole. The Snake and Scam not but maybe they will feel alright anyway. It's not like I am jumping down the biggest gaps but some primo protection in form of a cupsole would be nice.

While this is true, they come with bushings and will last multiple hangers, which you can also buy separately as you need them.

Worth it IMO.

Polar 93s, Indy 159 standards, and either an April 8.75 or 8.75 antihero eagle. I tried on some big boys and they were fine but don’t like taper in my pants. I’m gonna go try some 93s at the shop tomorrow. And I’ve been on ventures for a couple months now but am over them. Trying hard to axle them to get some Indy’s. And the April shape looks so nice but goddamn I hate the logo graphic.

Not to jump on too many threads, but I wanted to comment on this one.

The 146 barely went over 8.25, whereas the 151s worked well on 8.5 boards, so I am guessing would also work well on 8.38 easily enough.  I put the 151s on an 8.6 too and I feel like they were a little skinny unless I had wide wheels, but I am used to running the 8.6 decks with 159s with 56 mm Classic wheels which also looks and feels good on that setup.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

This is all the push I needed.

You nailed it since they sell parts separately I can just buy a single hanger or whatever.
