In Vancouver we had the option of concrete ground and angle iron, or sports grade asphalt and granite.......we got granite.......it can be done but you need a really interested group of skaters forcing the builders......

I think why not consider building your own stuff instead.....prefab is ok if it's cheap....it can show that there's interest.....I just think concrete is more permanent.....

i wish they made real granite plazas as skateparks in the vein of love and pulaski and the like.

some granite is a start, but i'm talking everything. flatground and all.

concrete cracks and gets rough over time. those epic skate plazas barely wore down decade after decade on the brutal east coast. i would imagine it to be more durable. admittedly, i don't know shit about potential cost differences, so it might not be feasible.

Paine's Park in Philadelphia has tons of granite but it definitely added mucho $$$ to the overall cost. Paine's is probably the most expensive skatepark per square foot anywhere. It looks nice but I don't think it was worth the cost and because it's in constant use by skaters AND bikers deterioration may become an issue that will be costly to fix.

The benches that get the most use are old Love/City Hall granite.

Good concrete park > prefab park > bad concrete park

I've got several concrete parks in my area, ones got two nice bowls and a 7 stair with a decent handrail but not a single manual pad or just flat ledge so it becomes a bummer pretty quickly, we've got a prefer park on the town next to me and I'd honestly rather go there because they have several nice benches and manual pads.

The other thing to consider is why can't prefab parks get better?

they have one a few minutes from my house but it's in a shitty park. they used an old tennis court and it sucks. it's also in a horrible location so i just go skate the school since there's curbs galore and no shitbags to bother me.

We have had a Pre fab park in my town for 16 years now.
I have a love hate relationship with it, we are supposedly going to be getting a concrete park in the next few years. I will be pretty bummed if they tear the pre fab one down after its built. Its pretty much my home at this point.

Does anyone remember seeing a pdf of an argument against American Ramp Co. and other pre-fab parks that was made to help cities understand why they suck? Cannot find it for the life of me. I remember it being well-written and put-together.
