If I can’t get over the “BEAUTIFUL” tag on BP shoes, I can’t wear shoes that say “NYJAH” twice.

There are canvas Janoski shoes but does anyone know if there are rubber underlays? $85 is steep if they’re chillers after one sessions.

all the janoski's that i've had did have a very thin rubber backing under the canvas but nothing like what's underneath LRABs or Vans duracap. A couple little dots of super glue before the first sesh and you're set for a while.

These BP shoes are ugly and this eighties font and stripes make it even worse.

It's unbelieveable how little choice we have for vegan shoes in 2025.
Every brand should have at least one synthetic suede in their range at all times.
And with decent colorways, no pastel shit.

Sucks that two of the most unsupportable people are the ones putting out new vegan shoes this month:
The Nyjahs posted above, and Warsaw quietly released a new capsule with plain black/white vegan suede Chapter mids and lows.

I like 80% of the shoes, but I can’t stand how the hem on the top of the foot dips down at the end of toes instead of staying flat on top. It’s small, but it ruins the whole shoe for me.

I’ll check them out in person to see if it drives me nuts in real life

Dang, I will pick up those Snakes on a BTS sale somewhere. Nice to see Etnies is keeping its animal-friendly page current. Meanwhile emerica’s one says “no products found” even tho there are a bunch of vegan options still available on their site (they’re just not labeled)

Yeah I noticed that earlier when I was going thru the sole tech sites. Emerica's new site is awful. You can't even read the entire product description on desktop because they slapped a big ugly off-the-shelf review widget over it. They rebuilt it with a free (and very bad) Shopify theme for some reason.

Decided to randomly check out the eS vegan selection and saw they have the Quattros and Silo SCs on sale. Really wishing I wasn’t broke at the moment.

I hope éS make a vegan Accel (seems to be what they call the new version, they need to stop the "OG").
Those synth suede snakes are pretty nice, at last a good colourway, would be better without mesh though.

Is Templeton the only long-standing vegan in skateboarding ?
Are there vegan pros/ams nowadays ?

There's a small few I think but off the top of my head there's Kenny Anderson, Ryan Lay & Samarria Brevard

OK, that's not much.
That really makes Ed stands out with all the models he had.
Rowley started good but it's been over for a while it seems.

I was thinking that it may be a big part of why there's so little offer, if many vegans where involved with the brands the push and incentive would be higher.

My hunch is that veganism was big in punk in the 90s and 00s (probably via anarchism?) but has fallen out of fashion as a subcultural political orientation as plant-based diet became more mainstream. There was also just a much bigger emphasis on ethical consumption around that time that has really fallen out of favor for some good but also bad reasons.

Tbh they probably just don't sell a lot of vegan shoes. I wouldn't be surprised if many vegan shoes sell better if they're not marketed as such. I've heard this from a lot of bakers and stuff. Only vegans come in if it's labeled as a vegan bakery or restaurant, but if it isn't, they sell a lot more.

The meat and dairy industry has worked overtime to discredit veganism and environmentalism, they use platforms like YouTube and TikTok to spread false information that people believe. Think of recent changes back to unhealthy animal oils for frying french fries. The plant based diet trend also didn't help vegans in anyway and idiots like lizzo and Miley Cyrus made plant based look like just another diet, veganism is a lifestyle but a lot of people don't get that.

It's very true that labeling food as vegan is counterproductive.
Here in France, one of the least vegan friendly place on earth, most people have no idea what veganism is.
They may have a vague idea that it excludes some products and they think it's a sect, or for hippies or ill people.
Many think vegetarians eat fish, even restaurant staff.

I often say to food brands and restaurant/foodstall owners that labeling their fare as vegan/vegetarian puts off most people.
A lot more than it attracts vegans or people who see it in a good light.
Even for vegans it's a bad thing because the market is stagnating, even declining in recent years.

I don't know for shoes however, that may also be the case.
Vegans will always find a way to know if a product suits them or not.

It's funny because many food dishes (and non-food items) are not obviously "vegan" unless you know what you're looking for taste/ingredient wise. The same can be true with skate shoes,  because a synthetic leather looks and feels just like animal leather. Average skater may not know the difference unless it's labeled/or they know what synthetic materials already feel like.

It's a 50/50 or a catch 22 with labeling vs non-labeling. I think it would be smart to see brands run vegan models in with non-vegan models without the excessive labeling, so more non-vegans buy them. YET, actually vegan buyers would appreciate clear and consistent labeling for obvious reasons 🙃

For food, how many people look out for vegan products/restaurants compared with people who are put off by a vegan labeling ?
There are so few vegans in the world I'm willing to bet more product would sell without or with minimal labeling.
Veganism does not have the same reputation among the general population in all countries however.
Labeling could be bigger where it's  seen in a good light, smaller where it's not.

For shoes, just write vegan as the last line of the features on the website, vegans will be happy and it should not put anyone off.

I'm all for keeping this thread limited to posts of actual shoes, and limiting existential debate, but I will say it's also pretty indicative of negative association with the word 'vegan' that all the Sole Tech websites changed their category descriptions from vegan to "animal friendly"
