Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight was the movie I watched on Halloween night. I didn't like it much when it came out and I think I basically cool guyed it. It's really very good. Ernest Dickerson, who shot the early Spike Lee movies including Do the Right Thing, was the director and it looks like he shot a handful of episodes of Tales from the Darkside (which are unrelated and could maybe even be called a knock off.) By the time he gets to directing Demon Knight, he knows how to make those types of scenarios and settings work and look better than the next director. It's also the first Tales from the Crypt story from that era that wasn't adapted from an old EC comic and maybe that helps the story a bit. Pretty much every character in the original stories gets punished at the end for one a misdeed or another but this one has a relatively upbeat ending. Bill Zane is also better than he has ever been and though that may not be saying much, he is really good as the main baddie.

Belly. Was absolutely shocked to see DMX play Gummo in his living room within the first 5 minutes
One of my all time favorite movies.

Had a great time with the Marvels.   Probably shortest MCU movie (1:45 including credits) but didn’t feel short and felt like a Comic Book movie.

Went in hoping for the best, but not expecting much.   Hadn’t paid much attention to trailers either (never do if I can help it)

Anyone here watch Beyond the Black Rainbow?  I think it's the only film prior to Mandy by the same director.  Quite an interesting watch to say the least but a weird one to take in.. stoked ultimately tho

Watched The Batman (2022). Surpassed expectations. Pretty goth, loved it. Always thought Dark Knight trilogy be untouchable. This new one not far behind. Be interesting to see where this series goes

I don’t know if I would place it that high, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as well.   There’s a Penguin series coming soon that will bridge the 1st and 2nd movies.   I hear Clayface will be in 2, but things change.

I kinda wish Batman would get a little less grounded (but not go back to full camp) just to let some of the weirder villains get some air.

Good call.  Enjoyed it in IMAX 3D.  Wouldn’t have dug it as much without those visuals, but it was fun enough.

Dream Scenario.  Believe they shot on 16mm, really adds a lot to the vibe.

Ah I was debating about doing 3D but I wear glasses to the movies and it can be annoying in the wrong 3D glasses

The bad reviews just feel like the critics are over Marvel and they can’t win.   Sure, I’ve seen everything before this, but I don’t think that was at all a requirement to understand who these people were.    It’s like picking up any Marvel comic, just like the humor that everyone hates now: All Marvel comics were jokey like that.

Big ones left this month:
Next Goal Wins (had an interest in the real story as well as an English team that did even worse)
Napoleon (seems vital to see on big screen)
The Killer (want, but don’t NEED to see in theaters unless I hear otherwise.)

Dream Scenario I’m curious about, but I don’t necessarily have patience for meta Nic Cage or campy Nic Cage stuff.

I’m also going to go out on a limb and endorse Wonka.   Finally caught a trailer and I think the Paddington/Paddington 2 sensibilities of the director will outweigh the Chalomet-ness.    There’s still hope for TC to not go full Jared Leto and Dune showed he understands restraint, so I’m optimistic despite the movie being a punchline atm.   Who thought Paddington had any right to be as good as it was?

"At Eternitys Gate", Definitely not one I would just recommend to anyone but I think the right crowd would love it. It is a very well shot and artistic take on the last few months of the painter Vincent Van Gough's life (not a biopic). I am probably very biased on this one because I like Willam Dafoe and the art of Van Gough haha.

I kind of want to watch that again because it’s so well done but I was legitimately distressed the first time I saw it. Absolutely harrowing.

Lately I’ve noticed movies don’t last long in the theatre, hopefully this one runs through Christmas or I guess they line it up with streaming…..

Warning: 4 hour directors cut will be released on Apple+.   If you know anything about Ridley Scott and his history with directors cuts (Kingdom of Heaven specifically) that’s what I would save my viewing experience for over the theatrical one.
