Love him or hate him, I care nothing.
I think this is nice.
-
...I can do that.
-
fun
-
after the prevent this tragedy bonus footage, i lost all respect for this dude. not that i had any left. but this guy is completely pathetic. i dont see how anyone can defend this lazy bum.
-
embrassing
-
i liked it... not because it was anything amazing, it just looks good.
-
...it just looks good.
and fun.
Damn that damned fun!
-
...I can do that.
I like Pappalardo. I really do. But thats the first thought that came to mind when I saw this.
I really hope his Chocolate footage isnt a bunch of ollies. I like east coast skating, but this is getting out of hand.
-
looks like a fun spot but not sequence worthy.
-
Fuck it. Shoot me: that made me want to go for a skate more than ALMOST anything else that's been on here in the last few weeks.
And yeah: I'm a total faggot.
-
He skates pretty good for someone with full-blown AIDS.
-
I wanna say that it looks a little bit harder than it seems but hey, it was on a blog for a reason.
-
I think that's a cool little line
-
He skates pretty good for someone with full-blown AIDS.
your consistent aids accusations make me laugh.
i like seeing simple shit like this and it gets me hyped to skate. i'm old and i suck at skating though.
-
Stop looking for every excuse to stick up for this guy. Popalardo is blowing it so fucking hard. Watch him have almost no footage in the Chocolate video.
-
yikes....
-
amazing spot and pretty dope sequence... do your thing pops
-
why is it this guy can get away with it , cellar door whore
-
Great spot. Garbage sequence that requires knowing how to ollie bench high. Impressive.
-
you fucking whiny bitches.
That's most likely a warm-up for a harder line.
But then even if it's not who fuckin cares anyway? I'm sure HE'S not worried about it.
-
cant wait til chocolate video drops and shuts all you haters up
pops can have some shit up his sleeve when he wants to, i mean this is the guy who switch bs 50-50ed clipper amongst other shit
-
the guy doesn't skate like he used to.
i'm not really into backing people who are trying to make a legit career and not actually working for it.
-
One of these threads seems to come up every week; seeing as theyre not going anywhere, i suggest a stickied pappalardo thread.
One side of the pappalardo spectrum focuses on how basic and lackluster his skating seems to be, be it a comment like, "i can do that."
This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but the difference is that, I don't want to see "you" do that. His skating seems to have evolved into skating how he actually enjoys, and perhaps I like it simply for the fact that he has shown his ability to skate as technical as he wishes, or he's earned his stripes if you will.
What made me want to skate in the first place was imagining what it would be like to be able to roll through a town without having to pick up my board, on some marty mcfly feel. I didn't start with the intention of learning tricks, but rather to be one with the board, as lame or cliche as that sounds. Whether this is considered "in defense" or not, when I see a sequence like this, it gets me hyped because it reminds me of that initial desire I had to skate.
-
Only pops could get away with this,
good stuff
-
no one appreciates skating anymore unless its mike mo spread eagle treflipping a 20 stair. just aprreciate it and have fun people
-

i like any pops. he could grind a curb or just push it will get me stoked. sorry to be that guy..
ps what blog is this from?
-
The Skateboard Mag photo blog thing.
-

oh please, dude had damn near 10 years for his lakai part to have stuff up his sleeve and it was still a shotgun blast of disappointment even if you had no expectations at all.
his style isn't even all that. dude fucking sucks period. If Mike Carroll did this shit I would blast him as well and he has more style in his foreskin than Popps has.
I guarantee if he was an uknown skater his sponsor me tape would be laughed at and thrown out. No one gives a shit about his style really. people just say that as a cover up.
He is hilarious to me, on one hand he wants to be a New York art faggot who skates Gall like spots but on the other hand is a complete anti social recluse. Hilarious
-
dude has no excuse he aint as old as gino and gino still does better shit than this
-
pappalardo
-
damn!
wicked ollies broseph
-
I don't want to see "you" do that.
-
obligatory "i'd rather watch pappalardo push then watch some kid from socal do some crazy tech ledge combo"
i wouldn't though
-
it doesn't matter, everyone's already made their minds up about him so it won't matter what he does, you're either already on his cock or ready to circumcise it.
-
We like it because he makes it look like that garbage smells really bad.
-
we?
-
we?
The people on his cock.
-
There was a time in this young man's life when those ollies would have been kickflips or nollies, and Anthony Pappalardo wouldn't have batted an eye at the prospect of doing either. Now, when asked to go shoot a sequence so Mike and Rick can justify paying him any amount of money, he gives the mag this, and Atiba says, "We can't waste ink printing this." And Atiba is right.
-
no one appreciates skating anymore unless its mike mo spread eagle treflipping a 20 stair. just aprreciate it and have fun people
i was gettin ready to hate until i read this... we have all taken skateboarding to a jocked out cock suckin level... it really is just skateboarding.
my eyes have been opened O___O

dude watch the gif again look at his right foot it looks like he is wearing a converse high you see the star on the ankle and then when he ollies the chain its a low ???

Watch Mosaic...

maybe its like those pig wheels ad, they try to confuse us
-
i'm definitely on the fence with this dude, but i won't decide his fate as a pro skateboarder until after i see the choc video. he got a pass for fully flared with me for how refreshing his part was amidst all the combo tricks and hd, but the prevent this tragedy shit and this sequence is simply unacceptable. until then, i'm gonna watch photosynthesis and that 411 union park montage and be glad he's about to get caked up when his shoe hits the shops.
*end skate nerd rant, googles dani woodward*
-
Here we go again.
-
seems like he is trying to see just how much he can get away with. This shit is straight garbage and people still get hyped.
-
i wish i could just time travel to page 8 of this thread...
-
he would be a little bit more acceptable if it wasnt for his whoreish mouth
-
I think that makes like 4 things in a row from Pops that I could do.
I think I could have ollied onto that piece of wood in the Thrasher vid too...
Hmm. Maybe it's not that Pops can't skate anymore, maybe it's just that I'M FUCKING GREAT...
No, that doesn't sound right...
-
a clip like that makes me want to go to nyc, skate around all day and find shitty janky fun spots, just like that one. a good thing about pappalardo is that you will definitely see some spots youve never seen before. cant say that about a lot of pros.
-

pretty funny how the guys who are entertained by this laugh of a sequence are the same dudes who hate austin stephens. i'd way rather see austin milk it then pappalardo. papps has just gotten way too carried away in trying to turn skateboarding into art & he's doing it all wrong. watch a papps part then watch a gonz part. it's reasonable to film this kind of bullshit when you're injured or whatever but this dude is just pissing all over the place. sure it looks cool but, you're a professional skateboarder with a shoe on converse, get it together...
-

why should he?
and dont say because he is a pro skateboarder and it is his career because that means shit.
It is a objective world my friend.

pops laughing at your faces doing all this shit
i wish i could get paid just for doing ollies and 5050s
-

i forgot how tight this shit was. dude makes cruising look fun

dude watch the gif again look at his right foot it looks like he is wearing a converse high you see the star on the ankle and then when he ollies the chain its a low ???
Dude I was thinking exactly the same thing... maybe just subliminal converse advertising? Strange.
-
He should have coffin'd under the chain, I'm laughing picturing it.
-
i'm down for this little hunchback and his benchmaking, but like someone said, his shit in the bonus footage of the Thrasher video was sad. Combine that with this and my expectations have been greatly lowered. At least we'll always have his mosaic and IE parts.

Think of it like this: At the beginning of his career, Picasso painted extremely realistic portraits. He had as much technical skill as anyone. This allowed him to later in his career paint things that were more simple, with more style. He earned the right to be able to create things that were more fun for him, even if they were not as technically "good". And I personally like Picasso's later work better.

well put although picasso really took what cezanne was doing and used even more tecnical skill to create cubism... a seemingly simple thing but more complex and skillfull then anyone could imagine, untill they tried it...... IT MAY LOOK EASY BUT THAT DON'T MEAN IS.
-
are you fucking kidding me
-
IT MAY LOOK EASY BUT THAT DON'T MEAN IS.
No, it's actually easy.
If we're going to compare Pops to an artist, I think he'd be one of those guys who painted a small red triangle in the middle of a huge white canvas, & then had a bunch of people raving about how "important" it was...

thats such an ignorant look at art, and stupid
-
so those starving dogs thing was a good exhibit right?
-
If Koston were to shoot that sequence, all the garbage would have been cleaned up for him, Panasonic would pay to have huge lights and five cameras set up everywhere, all of the cracks would be bondo'd by whoever was interning for the *****cs at the time, and everything would be done switch.
He'd then hop on twitter and say "Just switch manny'd pop's cellar door go fuck your face", and all the interns would hesitantly laugh with him.
-
if you are going to compare pops to an artist and say his art sucks now then
you need to at least take into account that at one point he was one of the best artists
which in turn has given him (in my opinion) the right to make "shitty" art.
-
which in turn has given him (in my opinion) the right to make "shitty" art.
can we dub the term "Shart"?
-
comparing paps to picasso. you people are ridiculous

double meanings are fun
for instance:
I sharted in my pants, put it on a piece of canvas, now its shart!

it's still a piece of shit ain't it?
-
the allusions to the art world actually make sense.
picasso and modern artists that succeeded him in the later 20th century didn't 'dumb down' their work; aestically the works may have been 'simpler',but these changes were of intellectual concerns rather than aesthetic ones; this was the speration of the avant-garde from the acedimia.
maybe we're looking too deep into this, but we all know popalardo can skate as technically and skillfully as any of his contemporaries, so why would he all of a sudden shift to doing ollies and nosebonks. he could milk it in the same fasion as a lot of pro's by not releasing footage at all or by releasing 1 or 2 super-tech tricks every few years. his 2:30 minuite fully flared part could have been cut even shorter and been riddled with combos but he decided not too.
for some reason i think pop's is trying to do something different (while making stools).
...or maybe im just a dick-rider.
-
for a start i was not comparing him to picasso, i was only talking about what baconeggsandcheese was saying where he referenced picasso and was saying how just because he used to be technically good what he did later was easier... which it wasn't.

Duchamp is probably the most important artist of the last century and all he did was turn a urinal upside down... and yes it was fucking important.
Basically i was trying to say how sometimes doing something that seems simple isn't always how it seems. Like this sequence of popps, it may look simple but it may be filled with little problems that you can't see.
sorry for the rant i think my post was seen as i was trying to compare Popps to one of the greatest most influencial artists of our time, to which i am not.
KrewKruxklan said it best.

Its either you love the "new" pops or you hate it. I love it, watching him skate fast on rugged-ass spots is enjoyable to me. Just because he's not doing a back tail flip out or hucking himself down a twenty-set doesn't mean he doesn't mean he sucks. Remember this guy switch ollied love back in the day..

I'm not gonna lie. I hate visual art. I like Pappalardo.

he also switch back 50'ed clipper.
if you need something tech from fully flared he did
front shove nosegrind shove out. BACK WHEELS FIRST!!!
stop acting like the dude doesn't know how to ride a skateboard.

pops can still skate.

I wonder how long it'll take for some 12 year old to find that spot and one up poppalardo...
-
he's an artsy ass bob dylan bench building switch ollie poppin muthafucka
-
wow. this is getting ridiculous.
anybody who can ollie can recreate that line.
if you couldn't ride out that spot, then you clearly are not good at skateboarding.
i'm not saying he's bad now, but he clearly is not WORKING for it like he used to.
just cus you have your name on some wood doesn't give you an excuse to get lazy.

I don't think the skateboarding industry ever realized how much you fat kids and 'creative' types (yeah right) needed a hero--someone you could identify with. Get the fuck out of here with that art talk, there is absolutely nothing creative going on in the sequence in question. That is exactly what every one of us would do--first try--if we came up on that spot. In other words, the thing to do there is completely obvious and it requires absolutely no creativity to see. Like, what the fuck else would you do there anyway? The reason why I can't stand you fans giving this dude a free pass no matter what is because there are skaters out there that are actually creative and sick that make a fraction of what this dude does, all because they never went ahead and sold their stupid bullshit pouty 'artist' portrait face to all you fat kids out there. Get a clue and support skaters who actually skate and are sick. And if you're a fan of this dude and you read this and you still don't get what I'm saying, then you are as dumb as a post.

I really liked that trick in his part, actually his whole FF part was really fucking good, just wasn't what people were expecting.

I agree that it is irritating when close-minded pappalardo fans can't appreciate footage that demonstrates more technical skill than a couple ollies just because it was filmed west of New York. That being said pappalardo is one of my favorite skaters because I find him aesthetically pleasing to watch, used to be very technical, and skates rugged spots relatively creatively. But, on the other hand, I still get stoked on skaters like Kennedy, Bledsoe, etc. Basically, not all pops fans are assholes.
-
...I can do that.
SO WHAT. you didnt.
-
like i said before, so many pros get hated on here for doing the same tricks and rightfully so. but popps gets to do as many ollies as he wants.
anyway i really like his new shoe, im not buying it though because i refuse to support this douche. i have a friend who is flow on converse so maybe he could hook me up. i doubt it though.
-
I definitely don't want to rain on anyone's parade - if you dig what pops is doing, cool. After all, I still dig watching Tommy G's part in Future Primitive, & by today's standards, there aren't even really tricks in that part.
I can't help wondering tho: how basic does pops' skating have to get before he finally loses his admirers? I mean, when there's a sequence of him ollieing up a curb, are there still gonna be people digging on him?
Hell, if I could make the $$$ he's making by skating as basic as he is, I'd be doing it in a second, so I guess I can't blame him...
-
Its a cool sequence/spot. Not difficult though, had to be a test run for a better line.

What if he only does simple shit like this when he's being filmed or photographed? Like, if he's just going out skating, by himself, maybe he's just as crazy tech as Mike Mo, or Marc Johnson, or Cory Kennedy and this is just how he wants the skateboarding world to see him?

i think with this sequence Pappalardo is trying to make a subtle critique on early Marxist Deconstruction of Capitalism while at the same time evoking a wry commentary of man's current state of existential ennui vis-à-vis a subtle homage to the early Bauhaus school of architecture as seen through the dystopian landscape of this nondescript, vacuous alleyway

he skates fast. the spots he skates are rugged and gnarly. i love his style. he makes me wanna go skate. thats how you skate in NYC anyways. switch ollie blah blah blah. poppalardo is a grown up rick nix or whatever that youtube kid's name is. all his new shit is the epitome of gay ass east coast skateboarding. i'd like to see this guy cruise down a big ass hill, san francisco's version of the cellar door.

POPS MUST BE ELIMINATED BECAUSE HE NO LONGER MEETS THE STANDARD
seriously, what does it matter to any of you if he's getting paid?
just look at it for what it is, it's not like he's stealing your job.
personally, i enjoy his skating,
the same way i like prefer seeing that guy at the skatepark who isn't that great, but looks like he's having a blast.
instead of that guy who can do more tricks but looks like he's bored as hell.
we all know this guy has paid his dues, it's not like he just ollied into pro skateboarding

I think its safe to say anyone can do this. Who really cares though. Pretty much anyone can do anything nowadays it seems. I mean you go to a park and u see 1000 kids that can kickflip backtail and nollie heel noseslide on call. Have you ever watched a video with flip trick after flip trick after combo after combo? Its mind numbing after a while and usually leaves you ( or at least me) feeling bummed that you cant do shit like that. But when you first started skating did you really care about tricks? no. You were siked to do anything, and it was so sick when you learned anything new, even if it was ollieng up a curb. I think pappalardo, as simplistic as his skating is gives people a refreshed feeling, because its within limits of what you could probably do. And also he makes it look good. No one has ever filmed that spot. And honestly if someone did a kickflip into that cellar door then nollie inward heel over the chain it would'nt look as good. I had to watch the sequence a few times because it got me so siked to skate, i mean c'mon how fun does it look? I think all the haters need to get their cocks out of furbys ass and get back to what skatings all about. This dude prooved he can be "tech" and go big. Remember, he pretty much switch flipped love before anything like that was going down.

This is exactly what makes it such good art.
I'm going to make some popcorn and watch this thread. Want some?
-
i guarantee none of you could do that, that ground is ridiculous, and the time between the ollies is like 0 seconds. i might be able to do it just cause i have some of the best ollies in skateboarding, but probably not. same with the ollie, ollie, kickflip, ollie. that would be regular no one on here or off here could do that, do youo know how fucking hard that is? 2 ollies + banks = ridiculous.
i have lots of spots like that near my house you have to ollie up the bank then pop again to do your flip trick and its next to impossible to get speed and even tougher to get your feet where you want them to its just the people who hate live in cali they dont have spots like that so they dont know shit about real skating they just play at skateparks all day and do easy ass switch tricks that they make seem like they are the craziest thing ever... turns out switch bigflip back tail heelflip out isnt as hard as you thought when all you do is skate inch high blocks of crystal meth all day.

is that real or a satirical edit?
-
thats from the HD montage in the final flare
-
turns out switch bigflip back tail heelflip out isnt as hard as you thought when all you do is skate inch high blocks of crystal meth all day.
only thing keeping these monthly pappalardo threads worth looking through.
-
dude watch the gif again look at his right foot it looks like he is wearing a converse high you see the star on the ankle and then when he ollies the chain its a low ???
Obviously this sequence was pieced together a la Aaron Snyder. There's no way Pops could lay down those ollies back to back like that.
-
I liked it. Pops encapsulates what attracted me to skateboarding in the first place- riding your board and actually skating through the streets*. Ledge dancing has become boring to me now, shoot me down. There's just too much of it, it's starting to feel like when somebody who knows nothing about skating watches a part and says; "It all looks the same to me". Sometimes I don't want to pull out a calculator and some graph paper to work out what the fuck I just saw; it's out of my level and doesn't inspire me, and often does the opposite in that it makes me question my abilities on a skateboard.
*I don't really care if that sounds pretentious, it's fucking true.
-
i hope u guys realize that it isn't the skater that pushes their photos to be seen on websites. the photographer is the one who tries and get their photos published.
i seriously doubt anthony cared if this sequence was published. he was probably skating that spot for fun, not thinking anything of it. the photographer thought it looked cool, shot it, and sent it to the mags.
-
if anyone else were to do this it would look like shit, only pops can make something like that look good.
-
everyone gets it. half of you think pops is your perfect date/metaphor to why you skate, what you like about skating, etc, while the other half thinks you are fags. nothing else has been said in any of the 28 threads surrounding this man in the last couple months. you kids should just go camp outside his family's resturaunt until he shows up. save it
and dont cry, i back the dude.
You need to save these words so you can copy and paste them directly into the insane thread that starts once his chocolate part comes out. Nah, just kidding, there will be 5 of these threads before then.
-
Pops = Awesome.
This thread = stupid.
Me = dumb kid.

im originally from cleveland. i skated shitty ground everyday. before i moved here to california i didn't even know what smooth ground felt like. popps just sucks. anybody can skate shitty ground as soon as you warm up.

lol, i rest my case
well at least he ollied a stair set
-
compared to how tech he used to be to how basic he is now i just dont like his new footy anymore...if your not going to put out footy a lot when you do put it out it needs to be good...so he better have a full part in chocolate video and it better not be another one of these so called timeless parts like the lakai one....
-
the way his feet are place on his board during the set up and in the air on that ollie over the chain was pretty cool looking in my opinion

I lost respect for him a while ago. I know alot defend him and say his style and what he has done thru the years, but this is where that comment is bogus as shit. He is 27-30 somewhere in there, you see guys normally regress from age past 35 (Carroll and some of the girl camp is excluded!) and his career isnt even half as influencial as those guys. He seems to act like he has led some epic skate career, that is ignorant! What he is putting out, a ton of skaters could do but here is the kicker guys; He gets paid for this, he has a pro shoe for this, and he has a pro deck from this which he gets the revenue for, as for you guys none of the above, just hopes and dreams. Im not saying you skate for sponsorship and to get famous. None of us started skating with strickly that mentality, but to focus more on things other than skating, and sit back and milk the perks from pro skating while not doing it(cmon it shows!) I think is pretty lame.
-
his sponsers are seeimgly happy with him so lets just stop being bitter shall we, some people are just lucky that they get paid to do what they like to do.
-
As long as he still wants to be a professional skateboarder instead of doing it for the paycheck, I'm down. I'll wait for the Chocolate video before I draw more conclusions.

that doesn't look like him to me. is that the joke? i'm confused.
-
nah that kids just a biter. he probably claims to have a passion for woodworking now
-
i was just thinking with all of the recent "progression" in skating i.e.
ledge combo tricks and what not, do you not find it refreshing that
some people are opting out of trying to do the next best combo?
i've heard so many people say enough with the ledge dancing.
well popps is the antithesis of that kind of skating.
-
there is so many more things he could have done in that sequence that would of made people say it was okay but nothing special but look at it its 2 ollies thats something many of us would do warming up its not like his ollies look any better than the next person i like how much support this guy gets and then actually good skating gets hated its ridiculous hahaha
-
Okay fellas listen up: we have more than two choices of types of skating to prefer and support. It's not like, if we don't like ledge dancing or Mike Mo or whatever, then we must like Anthony Poppalardo and his fat kid-style of professional skateboarding. So stop comparing Poppalardo to whatever you think is the worst kind of skating right now as if we can only support one of those two types of skating (you god damned idiot). This is an example of a logical fallacy that is so common that it even has a name ('false choice'). And this is why Poppalardo is the worst: because he is fully taking advantage of the fact that some of you are so stupid that you really think the only choices you have as to who you want to support are him and Mike Mo or Nugget or some such person. If you people had brains in your heads, then he would have only his little benches to financially support him and those skaters that actually kill the kind of skating that he fronts like he's capable of doing well would be getting his paychecks. I applaud you if you want to support someone besides P Rod, but get a fucking clue as to what's what in the non-P Rod world of skaters first; there are plenty of sick ones who should be getting paid and they're not.
-
LOL at this topic. We're better off talking about what's better for healing cancer than finding a happy medium between hate and apreesh for Popps.

-
its on a blog, get over it. do people consider blogs legit coverage now? i thought its a given that anything that shows up on those things is throwaway/fucking around
-
i dont think most of you get it
if pops made a part like his old parts, it wouldnt have been as good, and probably would have been outshined by everyone else on the video fully flared.
pops made a unique part of all never been seen spots all in really sick urban locations which was hardly the case on that video. most of the spots were in europe, asia, or in california (and not in downtown spots for the most part they were like industrial type locations). also every trick was like first try cause those spots are so heat youd get kicked out in a second.
if he would have made a part like his old parts i guarantee everyone would have completely forgot about him by now.
i am going to come out with a part this year that is all first try shit like that too like skating in places where everyone else has deemed it "unskateable", well i am going to skate it while getting the boot and ill have all these sick unique spots and it will be interesting to watch instead of me trying to muster up some ledge trick i can hardly do and have it look like shit and fall into the wave of youtube skate videos.

i understand people who are bummed on pops--he's really really good and technical, and instead chooses to do simple, clean tricks. some people say that's being lazy. but personally, i actually like to watch clean, simple tricks, instead of tech stuff. he has amazing style; anything he does looks good. and i understand why he does it--it's fun as hell to just cruise and pop ollies.
for example: i have personally done a few of the tricks, at those spots, that he does in this little video. but the tricks are radder when he does them, just because he looks great on a skateboard, and i look sort of like a sloth when i skate.

Okay, somebody needs to be stoned to death for suggesting that one of Anthony Poppalardo's recent ads could possibly approach the sickness that is that Cardiel ad. Cardiel has lived the skateboarding life of a hundred of any of us, and he fucking beat the gnarliest odds of all time. The fact that he can currently g-turn is breathtakingly excellent, and if that shit never happened to him, he would be flying over your head at a million miles an hour and making you scream. pappalardo is more influential to me considering he was killing it harder than ever when i just started skating. and being from nj, you gotta love the local dudes....
and do you know him orrr what? you make it seem like he is this conceded dude who thinks he deserves everything.... he seems humble as fuck to me....
-
Do you consider it humble when people collect pro shoe money every month for knee-high ollies? I consider it just the opposite.

oh, and next curren caples, you too work on a false choice. I like Pappalardo AND Cory Kennedy. So how is it that I make the false comparison? I believe it is you who is doing that sir.

-
I didn't have anything you wrote in mind when I wrote that. And what false choice have I set up anyway?
The false choice that we must either be into poppalardo or ledge dancers, and that those who like poppalardo only do so as a rebellion against such skaters. The fact is, the two are unrelated. You can like both, you can like neither, you can like one and not the other. You seem to think that the people who like pappalardo only do so because they think it is some sort of opposition to people getting super tech. Not so, the two are not related, but you somehow have related them. Your point seems to be, you don't have to like poppalardo to hate super tech skaters, my point is that liking poppalardo is not related to that at all.

yeah, like Colin McKay skates more things than vert. Still, about 5 times that many in this thread alone, and this is like the 50th thread of that sort already.

hurts to see how much work some guys put in to getting and being pro. always gonna be hate for the guy who has it easy
-
no more threads on stupid topics, please, it's hurting my head.
-
gipper, the problem is that his skating has become totally irrelevant and he's making boatloads off his name, i think that's what people are taking issue with, not this weird tech vs simple fight you seem to be imagining. but, even this issue has been discussed to death, it's not about what you deserve, it's whats more marketable and marketability doesn't necessarily correlate to amazing skateboarding, case in point.

You are full of logical fallacies.

So we all agree Pops is an aids-faced bum who should be kicked out of pro skateboarding. Good lets move on.
-
i've been a fan of pappalardo since i started skating, he's always been awesome, but all this shit is kinda making me like ??? . like i understand where he's coming from just wanting to do fun/easy tricks and make them look cool(and they do look cool), but he's a professional skateboarder and he's gotta get back on his game. his lakai part had like three or four tricks in it that made me really like "holy shit", and him skating in the beware of the flare tour video had me like HOLY SHIT the whole time.
-
maybe he doesnt even want to be a pro skateboarder anymore ??? its like the dude who said his teacher brought a mannequin around school with him and shit, he was just tryin to get fired.
or maybe he just doesnt want skateboarding to be in the olympics so he is trying to make the level of skating crappier in the usa so that it stays in the streets. so shit goes back to the roots.
or maybe he is just trying to appeal to people who suck at skating, who make up probably 90% of the skateboard market. wants to be seen as just some normal guy (which he is) and not some super star athlete.
haha yes these are ridiculous sounding cause who is going to want to watch the video with the crappiest skating right?
i think though he just doesnt really give a shit about doing any of that hard stuff and doesnt care if he is not pro anymore. it is like kurt cobain he liked makin music and stuff but he hated fans. he tried to appreciate it but just could not. pappalardo likes to skate but i wouldnt be surprised if he was turned off from the whole industry and what it has turned into now.
he has so many die hard fans though he probably doesnt want to let them down with crappy parts but at the same time he probably doesnt want to come out with nothing either. thats gotta be depressing has to pick 1 and neither are what he truly wants.

Notice that ads say Alien Workshop, these pre-date SLAP Pappalardo hate by some time.

But thugnificent, you and "the next curren caples" are my two most hated posters. I fucking hate you kids and I hope you get the Ebola.
come at me bro

A professional skateboarders job isn't to skateboard, it's to sell skateboards. Pops probably does that quite well.

i used to think pops was an awesome skater, but man i cant take this crap anymore. either quit your day job and start being like every other broke ass hipster in nyc or fucking put in a little bit of work. Smyth needs to whip his team into shape. Lem has been slept on for over a year, theres no way after the diagonal part that hes not EVEN am. Seriously, even if i meet him in person, I wouldnt know if i would be happy or pissed off and ask him wtf he is doing? just like every other bum collecting welfare, goddamn.
-
its amazing what one lil sequence can do around here!!! Pops or kill yourself!!!
-
skateboarding is sposed to be fun yet he never looks like hes having fun
he smiles quite a bit in his lifestyle shots though when he was younger haha like photo and i.e.
in ff he looks happy when he does the fs shove nosegrind

Jesus Christ. 8 pages for one gif.
-
let me put an end to this thread-- last good shit he put out was mosaic and after that popalardo FELL DA FUCK OFF

gipper, the problem is that his skating has become totally irrelevant and he's making boatloads off his name, i think that's what people are taking issue with, not this weird tech vs simple fight you seem to be imagining. but, even this issue has been discussed to death, it's not about what you deserve, it's whats more marketable and marketability doesn't necessarily correlate to amazing skateboarding, case in point.
A lot of people like that skating, it's not just him living off of his name. You just clearly don't understand the draw, so you and countless others start bitching about him living off of his name, not realizing that everybody else posting thinks it is a cool little gif, just trying to push the idea that it sucks repeatedly to people who will never be receptive.
-
Making money for doing jack shit - isn't that kinda everyone's dream job?
I don't do jack shit at my job and I make a decent living. Who among us would refuse money for doing little ollies and stuff? Not me, that's for sure.
Pops' skating kinda makes me laugh at this point, but hey, he's figured out a way to game the system for cash without breaking a sweat... more power to him.

i like that skating too, its just better to go outside and actually skate and do those things than watch a lame sequence of it or to pretend that's really worth putting out in any form. you might as well slappy grind something and shoot a sequence of that and call it being original.l theres no balance to what he's doing it's just all in one extreme. gino has balance, he still has amazing style and could put a couple things out because coming from him, you know it's going to be just the right amount of tech so you know the dudes not slipping and you get his style which makes whatever it is that much better. pops just needs to follow suit, i don't really mind his regressive style I just think he's going too far with it to the point where I wouldn't watch or look at anything he does more than once.

I remember seeing somewhat of a recent black&white photo of Pops grinding a bus in nyc (in 2009 I believe). Does anyone have the photo saved on their computer and care to share it again?

fuck you for being right. Not much else that can be said, it's only true. And of course he does it good because you have long time fans of his buying boards and then you have little kids who want to get the cool shit so they follow the long time fans and buy the coolguy shit. World keeps spinning.
-
pops has the dope steez tho. has he been skating lately, I heard he hasn't really been on ha board too much!?!?
-
probably building benches or some shit. i don't even care anymore, at least he has some dignity and isn't some lame corporate shill.

you know why pops can get away with the shit he does? because it still sells. you know why he has a pro shoe? cause it sells.
being a sponsered or pro skateboarder has little to do with skill... its all marketability.
amen to that. This whole Pops thing reminds me of an earlier problem in skateboarding history.
See, Metallica used to sell boards as well.
Kirk Hammett was the ish back them. I mean, look at him getting down on those stairs.
But James Hetfield on the other hand. Dude would just CARRY his skateboard and look fresh.
that dickhead sold more boards than Kirk.

i wish i could just time travel to page 8 of this thread...

Page 9 now, and possibly page 10 of a .gif of two ollies. BEST SLAP THREAD EVER

Couldn't have put it any better

are mall grabs ok if your board has a one inch nose?

You haters are going to be sorry you talked shit when one of these T.F. owners pays Pops to redo their spot. You haven't seen ledge dancing until it's done on one of Pop's exquisitely stained benches.
I think he's rad simply because he seems like he could give a fuck what anyone thinks. 10 pages?

'Seems like'.

I think I'm trying to make this a signature "Inanimate Object" move. Whenever everything possible has been said about a subject, I'm going to post up this video of Krunt hitting a plastic head with a bat in his backyard.
There is symbolism in this video of a chubby juggalo at bat; much like Krunt's replayed striking of the plastic head, some topics have been thoroughly bludgeoned by SLAP's collective opinion. There is nothing left to say about these topics, but that Krunt rules.

Well, after his overly criticized Fully Flared part, he hasn't put out anything more technical has he? It also "seems like" you're a regular, know-it-all bed wetter. Of course, I don't know for sure.
