people need to differentiate between pain and unfamiliarity. a sensation isn't the same as pain. it might feel a bit uncomfortable because you're not used to it, but this is not the same as pain from like, something poking into your foot or having to walk in Vans for a day.

I love 1010s but my feet feel cramped in them before they get broken in. So I take out the insoles altogether and skate them like that til they feel more spacious. Then I put the stock insoles back in right as I start to feel the ground too much.

This process makes the arch support less noticeable for me too

I have full on duck flat wide feet and on my 7th pair of 1010's. I experience foot pain for the first 10 mins or so during my session. I used to keep my shoes loose and then only tie them tight when I get to the spot/skatepark. Ive learn that if I just tie them tight when I leave the house I dont get as bad foot pain when I start skating, I'm guessing it has something to do with blow flow since my pain is more of a throbbing pain and my foot is already adjusted to it by the time I skate. Either way my foot isnt best designed for the 1010's but that trick has seemed to help for me.

Also want to point out how the 1010 is in a league of its own, there really isnt a shoe (besides 808) that even comes close to the quality/protection of the 1010, there so good by default I have no choice but to skate them and Im okay with that haha

My feet were also flat for years. Started wearing medium arch insoles after my chiropractor recommended them. It took a few solid weeks of discomfort to get used to them, but it was totally worth it.

I wore the medium arch insoles for about a year before I switched to high arch support. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my back pain and the distance I could walk before my feet start hurting.

Might be worth looking into. I get all of my insoles from Amazon. They’re around $20.

Anyone ever have an issue with 440’s footbed separating from the outsole? The rest of the shoe is still in pretty good condition

Shoot me a DM with some pics and your info and I'll get you sorted out.
For all the other SLAP heads, whenever I do this...I swear to god you guys are always like "Here's my address...I live in Slovakia" or "I'm down here in Uruguay" haha.  I still accommodate but damn, we are truly a global fam on here.

It's got similar vibes to the 288S that we had for a while.  Indoor soccer inspired design but a big improvement on the 288S if you tried those.  Launches in Holiday 2023 so around Oct.

Dear New Balance Numeric,

I love the logic behind the names of your shoes. Higher number = more tech and if it goes beyond 400 = cupsole.

What's the deal with 288 in that case?

I can't sleep at night because of this

Yours sincerely

Instant cop in that colourway for sure.  I wonder if they'll easily beat the 440 for my money, they look like they just might.

We took the 288 from an existing indoor soccer shoe that had already been out with New Balance, hence the anomaly of it being a lower number but a little techy.  I hope that will help you sleep better.

Without giving away too much, I'll just say "sooner than later" for the 480.  Obviously once you start seeing it on peoples feet it's not a total secret so you'll see them pop up at retail soon-ish.

And before the 288s, the original 288 took that spot before they finalized the vulc/cup number break line.

Interestingly enough, some of the earlier models had real names before NM# took off with the naming convention. Quite a few were vulc and probably in the 200-300 range unofficially. Some early examples i can recall:
Brighton (#? Probably 200s)
Quincy (254 and later 255)
Logan (606 ?)
Stratton (533 - PJ'S shoe)
Super Champion Fun Zone

I remember those names, they were horrible. Thank god they didn't pursue that road.
Btw if the higher the number the more tech and stuff what about 22? Following that convention they should be a sock with laces pretty much 😅

And now isn't there a 574 vulc? Doesn't quite seem to fit the <400 = vulc theory.
