Saw Nightcrawler the other night. The overall narrative didn't really land for me, but the acting and the overall build up were done superbly and overall I enjoyed it. Creepy movie. I left the theater in a state of paranoia, thinking car wrecks and violence were looming around every turn.
I also saw the latest Miyazaki film The Wind Rises. I wish they had let the emotional weight of everything come out a bit more. Everything seemed oddly cheerful, down to the tone of the music and execution of the dream sequences. Still a masterful animated piece, just not what I was expecting.
Both films would be a 7/10 for me.
If you're a hipster, watch Zach Braff's new film Wish I was here. Pretty funny and outlandish take on self-discovery in the midst of maintaining some sense of parental authority. It's much better than Garden State, which isn't saying much.
