Can someone explain to me what the term 'axel slip' means?
[close]
you must skate a lot

I've seen it happen but never heard of it referred to as 'axel slipping' where i'm from. Was a pretty dumb question i guess...

okay this might sounds stupid, but i feel people who "suck", rarely skate, or just dont know what they're doing, tend to be the ones breaking trucks. i can skate 5 days a week, skating all types of things, and never break a truck. in the 10 years ive been skating i've had like 5 pairs of trucks and the first 3 sets were within the first year. after that they've just gotten old enough to replace.

either way, indy has never let me down, stage 8, 9, or 10. out of the 3, 8s felt the most sturdy,  but ive had no problem with 9 or 10.

Pretty much same exact thing with me. I can't agree with you on Indy's though, seems like they have no quality control over there. I've seen more of them break than any other truck (probably because more people have Indys than any other truck, but they shouldn't break at all).

I was a life long Indy rider (20+ years)...until last spring. I tried a pair of ACE 44s & will never go back to those heavy, non turning Indys. ACE are similiar to the Indy Stage 2 & 3 hangers. They are super responsive & way lighter than Indy. WAY lighter. WAY more responsive.

The only good thing I see with Indys are the lifetime guarantee. They break...send them back for brand new ones.

Stage 10. Independent knows what they're doing to the point where I guarantee their trucks will not regress into some lower quality. If you don't believe that go buy some Tensors and die

right, because those automatic baseplate breaking holes on the stage nines were AWESOME. they really did a great job with that. and now that the stage tens have the pre-slipped axle, and way less material on the hangar, they'll bend and break even faster than before.

they've been on a steady decline, quality-wise since stage 7. the parts are forged in china, and assembled in the usa now, using inferior alloys, and recycled steel axles that are prone to bending.

they HAVE regressed to lower quality, but at least you're keeping it core as fuck, bruh.

that said, i still ride indys, and will continue to do so forever.

but to cluelessly just ride their nuts like you are is stupid.

I have stage tens and they are nothing short of amazing. I don't know why you're crying about indy's maybe you should stop riding them if you have these issues with them. Indy's aren't for bitches like you anyway
First skateboard in 1987 I had some 169 stage 5 for about 2 years.  Switched out in search of some lighter trucks.  Next ones I had were a set of 169 stage 7 during the east coast era that sucked so bad I cracked both hangers but I figured it was just a bad set.  Another set of stage 7 started slipping after the first year or so.  I stopped riding them because of that and didn't give them another try until stage 9 when I was stoked until axles on both trucks started slipping like the previous set after again only slightly over a year of skating.  After starting that thread about my axles slipping, I reassessed my skating and my board slams on it's axles when I unsuccessfully attempt a wallride more than landing primo on flip tricks.  I'm not going to stop doing wallrides just because of my trucks so fuck it.  I switched brands.

It's funny because some of the most hardcore professional supporters of indy used to ride for tracker or orion or gullwing or whatever other fucking brand back in the day, but we all have short term memory so we tacitly agree with them that indy is the best even though we all know dudes like the gonz and reynolds were on the tracker program.

indys for me suck!
what kind of truck breaks every single possible way just from skating?

bro those are obviously fucked up from soaking your trucks in urine. I mean damn, the look at those yellow ass piss stained bushings, the aluminum is all dull from it and shit too.
quit soaking your trucks in urine and they wont suck.

Well hopefully they dont slip when theyre new you know? But yeah, every pair Ive had has slipped, and only after I switched over to thunder did I try and send a pair back to NHS, and it turns out they did stand by their guarantee and replaced them. I'll either save them for a cruiser or give them another shot the next time I need new trucks.

It's funny, I used to break kingpins and baseplates occasionally when I was younger, but I haven't broken a single one of either in the last several years.

I don't skate gaps or drops any less than I ever did, and I probably weigh a few pounds more now, so I'd have to conclude that the Indys nowadays are better (currently riding 10s).

As far as how they actually feel, I can't tell the difference between one stage and another.

the best stage is when you pass on these piece-of-shit trucks and buy Ventures instead.

i just got some 10's so the jury is still out, but in saying that... my favorite stage (that werent in the 80s) were the 8's.. well the late batch of the 8's. I had some stage 8's with the silver kingpins and the kingpins seemed to break pretty easy, but i had 2 pairs of stage 8's that had the black newer kingpin and those were awesome. Wish i still had them as i WAY prefer that shape of hanger as opposed to the 9 and 10. But like a lot of people i will only use indys regardless.

when the stage 9 came out though, it took me ages to get used to them. pre-stage 9, i would tighten the trucks, 2 turns on the front, 3 on the back and never touch them again and be all good. I dunno if its just the bushings have sucked the last 2 stages or what.

I had the Reynolds stage 9 in a 129 with bones soft and the top washer. It felt really squirrely on a 7.5 deck.
Switched to the Reynolds stage 10 in a 139 with bones medium and no top or bottom washer with an 8 deck. perfect think I finally got it right.

Stage 9s were a huge downgrade, they`ll break the baseplate in everyway possible. They fixed it in stage 10 and got back on track.

However stage 10s arent as strong as stage 8, they`ll probably break in a year, depending on how you skate.

Considering that stage 8s are quite heavier i`d still go with 10s.

Have Indys really gotten that bad? I haven't skated in years so I'm out of the loop. I used to ride Indys in the mid to late 90s and they were okay then. Sure, the axles slipped but not any worse than anything else at the time. I do remember that there were occasional "bad" sets that circulated but for the most part that was rare.

If I get a new setup what would recommend instead of Indys? Destructos? Furys? I didn't like Thunders or Ventures that much back then. Neither were responsive enough for me and I was always breaking kingpins on the Ventures.

Loathe to try Ace after seeing all the pics of bent trucks online. Same with Theeve although some people are insisting that their problems have been corrected.

There's nothing wrong with the two sets of theeves tiax I bought (v.2 they don't look bent).  They turn every bit as good as my indys did, grind great, didn't have to pay an extra $8 to get bones bushing in them, they're lighter, and I don't have to worry about anymore slipping axles.  Seriously, indy needs to get their shit together because I think more people will realize its not just marketing that will sell product and that these theeves are probably here to stay.
