Skateboard Etiquette???
« on: July 24, 2016, 02:39:17 PM »
I have been a fan of skateboarding since I was 7.  I have the original Tony Alva articles.  Original Thrasher's etc.  My Skate City ID is in a drawer somewhere.  But I went to college started working and life happened.

Meanwhile...

I was at the Dew Tour sitting with 500 people yesterday and nobody was on their cell phones or using their cell phones to take pictures.  I was really impressed to be somewhere with a large group of people with different backgrounds.

It was as i everyone was in the moment.

Skateboard has unspoken rules (like pushing Mongo).

Any forms of etiquette or unspoken rules that young skate rats should know?

BTW Congrats to Sheckler, Lopez and Decenzo.

You must request a game of skate if your board touches the same plane as another skaters'

If you see someone trying a trick, you MUST snake him and then do that trick 1st try. And if you dont look back to make sure they saw you, then you have to be escorted off the premises.

after landing any full cab variation, take off your shirt and cheer to your crowd. Self props, a must.

What's the consensus on cheating during games of SKATE? Lying about how many letters you have, doing a nollie trick fakie, spilling ball bearings in the other guys' way etc?

make sure you practice your flat ground tricks in front of obstacles such as the bottom/top of a set stairs, in front of ledges etc. also make sure your kit meets the trendy requirements at your local skatepark otherwise you must leave the premises.

No matter how long someone has been trying a trick or how hard it is, if their hand or toe touches upon landing, be sure to tell them it's not a make

You might have been trying that trick for months, but when you finally land it clean it's vital that you feign indifference or better yet, contempt for your achievement. That way, people will think you are capable of much more.

If someone lands a trick that was clearly done in their regular stance, ask them if it was switch, followed by a disgusted face and a disappointed "oh" when they correct you.

Everything is to blame but your abilities when you can't land a trick, only play skate against kids you know you can beat, act like you only skate for fun and don't think about sponsorship when deep down every skater wants free stuff, land the trick your opponent has been trying in a game of skate against them when you know they won't land it

Out of courtesy, avoid filming tricks on any cellar doors. You know, just in case he's sitting on unreleased footy.

honestly the only things that are lame is people trying the same tricks as other people on the same obstacle, what even is that? and people spazzing out what should be a chill session, some people get way too angry

Roshambo is a 2 count in the west and a 3 count in the east (for some fucked up reason). You don't even have to play SKATE. Just go around the park asking to roshambo with people.

Play Eminem's Curtain Calls album through a portable speaker to pump up the session. Make sure it's the censored version though, in case there are kids around.
