ha, you're right but like someone on here's sig 'i'm an ardent supporter of futile causes' and keeping gagne's name alive is one of my pet projects. i daydream about him coming out of retirement and sharing a part [and a bed?] w/ lacey baker. 'gagne and lacey' straight to youtube, do not stop at the berrics, do not collect $200 in advertising royalties and do get her pregnant. from his interviews and former proximity to northampton i believe jim gagne could turn a lesbian straight or maybe he skated to a george thorogood song that mentioned it?

I actually dig Melcher's 90's style. Dude had some flow and a decent bag of tricks, despite the Muska flips. Lately, all he does are weird powerslide and wallie variations. Nowadays, it seems like the muttenchop, mustache and fedora kit is more prominent than his skating. But he's on Death with Richie Jackson, a board company that lets him get away with that type of skating. But to his credit, the hurricane down Wilshire is all-time.

Ah sweet, thanks for the links. I was trying to find the Sub Zero video on You Tube but I couldn't for some reason. I used to have it on VHS. I just remember as a kid thinking that Sergei seemed like such an interesting person. As his skating got better he would go faster and pop shit really high, then Poof, he just disappeared. I hate it when that happens to skaters I'm hyped on, Markus Brown was another one. In fact the whole American Dream Skate co. was sick man.

I like smokecrack's list, some of my favorite skaters on that list. Karma T. criminally underrated and I had forgotten about him...sad

Eduardo Craig & Tony Montgomery were great. What about Jeremy Reeves? T-Mont skating to Devin the Dude was awesome

Matt Pailes is probably still really well-known in Sacramento

I'd like to add Josh Dowd and Bryon London to this list ...Dowd especially cause he was killing it in Joe Perin's recent videos

Do all Americans aspire to be Donald Trump?
as a segment from the disputed quote goes "...the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

so, yeah. and the effects of such thinking can be quite disastrous. it is quite common for americans to live far outside their means thereby driving themselves into debt. it's really a rather toxic mindset that i am glad i am not stuck on.

jimi scott  used to be a legitamit skateboard pro (contest photos in thrasher/transworld) profesional snowboard pro and also a roller skate pro .   Rodney cassel had crazy hair and would do rock n roll sliders on top of his van with jump ramps.  Phil E was pro and he skated for a small co. and would get small photos in mags skating small transitioned thingys.  For how fucking good he was you hardly hear about gino perez  ( i think thats his name) wow that dude was good.

Who was that Nate something or other who was from Baltimore and skated for Powell in the early 2000s? I saw him skate in person a few times and he was super consistent. Didn't have the prettiest style on video but again, in person skated really fast and powerfully.

Scratch the "Nate". Turns out the guy I was referring to was Rodney Jones.

It was just a way bad luck "finders keepers" story, that took a turn for the worst. He gave it back and said sorry, but got the shit end of the stick which happened to slow/ruin his career to an extent. It didn't really seem that nefarious on his part. He should of just took it to "lost and found" or something (or lie and say he was taking there).
If someone found my lost Ipod & I saw them with it, I'd just ask for it back and it'd be resolved fairly simple instead of seeking harsh penalties.

How about Casey Rigney? I frequent this thread but I'm not sure if he has been brought up before or if any info about him exists. His Digital part is still completley legit. First guy to switch flip backlip a handrail (a small steep one at that)

He went pro for Arcade when they did their reboot a few years ago...Jon Newport was on the team too, no idea whatever happened with that

Brian Heck? mid 2000s consolidated dude, always thought his skating was ahead of it's time

De Gros cuts down and trims and whatever else to trees in Canada. His company made a corny video someone should re post

He comes up super often during these kinds of conversations, and it's probably a testament to how dope of a skater he was/how he should have made it

That Bill Keating love park thing is interesting. Probably just a boring explanation for why he disappeared though.

Anyone got updates on Jason Wakuzawa or Toan Nguyen?

Jason is part owner of Markisa, the wallet company P-Rod made. He is also the owner of FRSH, a hat company. He does pretty well for himself, he has 2 Beamers and goes to Vegas frequently on the weekends. Real cool dude as well.

Hey guys, I don't know if I'll get roasted for posting this, but I have been doing a little tumblr based skateboard magazine (SkateboardingsGreatestHits.tumblr.com) that kind of coincides with this thread. the section is called Skateboarding's Greatest Mysteries. so pretty much I flip through old Transworlds and Thrashers spanning from the 80's to early 2000's and try and find skateboarders I have never heard of, or skateboarders who are not pro any more, and ask them a thing or two about their time as a professional skater. I hope you guys enjoy!

Also had a really sick part in the Threads vid recently if you search that out. Seems like he gets a lot of coverage but a lot of it might just be for local stuff. One of the city's finest, for sure.

Ben Gilley - was pro for zero, rode bikes, maybe lives in bama again(?)
Adam Alfaro - mentioned here , seems to be more into pyschedelics [sic]  (http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2016/01/04/meet-skateboardings-former-demon-child-knox-godoy/;)
Jim Gagne - not sure
Patrick Melcher (still around?) - Partner in Kingswell Los Feliz and is still pro for Death skateboards
Kristian Svitak - tried his own company with 1031 and now streetplant w/ mike v
Jub (crazy part and then fell off the face of the earth) went pro for consolidated, then quit to become a family man
Pat Rakestraw not sure, but i remember he broke his knee cap and was a pedi cab taxi driver for a bit
Jhovany Vidal
Ragdoll (I guess people remember him, but still..) hated here via _____, interviewed by nieratko about his nuts. somewhat the face of a new
company 'hurt life'.

also, Jabari Pendleton works in the Diamond SF store on haight and still skates frequently

Once when I was little I met David Clark and his crew at Louisville Skatepark. He was doing switch frontside salad grinds on the tall flatbar. His friends were older and were really hyping him. He was obviously good. i remembered his name for some reason and it was crazy when he blew up a few years after that. Now he's a "forgotten skater." makes me feel old.

That's fair and I agree that you certainly can have more nuanced threads of this nature, but they always devolve into the same type of thread (list random pros) and some great percentage of entries are always misplaced (like Gershon stated in the past page or two). "Where are they now?" was merged to manage these sorts of threads. Anyways, I am nitpicking...

Half of the Santa Cruz "Ammo: The Next Round" lineup was pretty random:

Kyle Kimberling
Levi Marvin
Quinn Montgomery
Vanik Hacobian (sorta)

Not sure if this guy is forgotten or still in the game, but I remember reading a Thrasher spotlight maybe back in 2013 written by Mike Sinclair about a new Tum Yeto (Wanna say he was on Toy) flow guy.

Anyway Sinclair says that they were skating at a spot and security comes up to give them the boot,  so the flow dude just drops his pants and literally shits right there at the spot.

I remember thinking "woah, that takes some gall"

Don't remember hearing about him after that. Does anyone know who I'm talking about?

Santarosa best forgotten?  Forgotten or not, Wade  Burnkit (mis spelt) did it right.  (Erick Ricks was one of the 1st to usher in a 'cleaner' flip trick style as oppose to what was happening at the time.  -flip to catch rather than the worm burning shit.  He changed the game as I remember.  He wore b ball tees over T shirts.)

Saw him in Philly a little bit before the destruction of Love

To start this thread I guess I will just start with Pancho Moler

http://youtu.be/3N-nHXvSczw (http://youtu.be/3N-nHXvSczw)

I lived with Pancho about 13 years ago, right at the end of his involvement with skateboarding. Raddest dude, I think he just wanted to try a new path, he's doing good these days too. I don't feel like he's forgotten, but I'm biased I suppose. Crazy Eddie could have gotten more love!  Aaron Artis is another one, but I don't think he ever came back from that leg break.

this is Ryan Kenreich. Ex pro skater who still thinks he?s a ?big deal? because he was something like 7 yrs ago. He?s top notch crazy and not in a funny way but he really should see a shrink way. He?s addicted to oxycodon, xanex, somas and smokes them off a foil, snorts the xanex, occasionally pepsi too, pretty much biggest druggie/junkie i?ve ever met. Looks like he needs a burger BAD, funny thing is he likes his high cheek bones and thinks he has sex appeal while everyone jusy laughs behind his back because he looks like a skeleton. He lives with mommy and has no job, no friends, pretty much a loser. Sells his pills just to stay afloat. STAY AWAY if ur associated with him sooner or later ur life will suck. BTW he can?t skate anymore, he lost his ?talent? haha dudes a f*kin poser whos stuck in he past!

Ryan, styling your hair like that really draws attention to your receding hairline.

When those “Where are they now?” blog posts were popping off a few years ago I ran into Serge and asked him when he was going to do one and he said he had been approached but didn’t want to do one until he had a little footage or some good current photos.

He’s a rad dude. I used to see him everywhere when he drove the La Colombe truck but haven’t seen him for a bit. Had a nice clip in a Fred Gall video a year or so ago.

That sounds fucking fun.
My sister used to work for Cartoon Network which is the parent company for Adult Swim. I remember walking in the headquarters with her one year and met some people involved with the shows. I met the powerpuff girl creators and the dude behind Space Ghost coast to coast (who was a fucking uniquely awesome guy). The overall work atmosphere thrived on creativity and had a non serious vibe to it. Still cant believe my sis wanted to leave that job

My little input to the forgotten skaters: I was watching a video with Damian Smith the other day. Man he was good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUKBp9RQKso

Also nanda zipp, weston correa, Lil Nick Lockman, Jani Laitiala, Gio Moya, Satva Leung, Joey Valdez, Moses Itkonen and Justin Bokma RIP. Great names btw.

Rick jaramillo, matt milligan.

I wondered about caine gayle, turns out hes some sort of mma trainer now.

Also drake jones needs to come back. Outside of penny and carroll, nobody had steeze like drake.

were matt milligan and matt willigan on the same company at some point? am remembering an ad from the 90s making a point of that, but can't remember for sure or if i am tripping and making it up in my head.

Yeah I'm never gonna forget him. He's like one of the top east coasters the history of.

Dam Dan Perterka is kinda a lost classic skater. He basically brought us from curbs to ledges in the hstreet timeline.
Pretty sure he skated to MJ. I've been telling fools ever since. The best part of video should always be MJ. Or Prince. That works too.
That the top artists in pop land. Let's be honest. It's always been about breaking through to the normies.
MJ + MJ should have happened. Maybe we'd have no Nazi around anymore. You know as the world goes from static power to smooth sailing new lube land.

Then Jereme did it next I was like damn. Guess he was listening. He fuckin deserved it too. Stylisticly he buried all in that film.

You know it's true. Plan B ruined the Boston movement. That was a horrid mistake. I was like GD nah I'm from fuckin Marbehead not Boston. Where as before I was like never heard of this thing called Marbehead birthplace of the American navy.

I believe Marbehead actually is the high radiation zone for rippers. It's really hard to explain the scenes from the 70s to now. We even had a brief scene in the hulahoop era with my dad's friends.

Now we got the Gonzarelli the books closed. East coast wins. We got fuckin PJ TJ and Cole. And isn't MJ actually from Virginia.
Y'all got dway. I'm claiming Australia for Boston too. We want that SOTY land. Y'all can have Russia and China bitches.
We got India

Tons of guys from the EST videos. Like three amazing clips with great style, and then you never saw them again. Also, a handful of women from the 90s and early to mid 2000s aside from Elissa. MDS was on fucking zero when no one was putting women on.

She doesn't come up enough irl conversations imo and experience, unless I bring her up. I know her career wasn't long but up until recently she was the best of all time without a question. She deserves elissa steamer levels of reverence in 2024 from everyone not just ppl here and those over 30.

Her street parts are still better than a lot of women who came after her. She was the entire package.
