I’m assuming this is Louie’s to lose. He has at least one more part coming out this year that I’m sure he’s saving his best stuff for.

I still think SOTY is a marketing package and you have to have a top tier shoe sponsor and/or an energy drink behind you, as well as a respected board brand. If T-Funk gets on Vans before the end of the year, then we’ll see.

That said, I think it’s interesting Baker has never had an active rider as SOTY.

2) Hollywood 16 gets 50-50'd and back lipped with style
3) Many new female/women pro models on established/legacy brands
4) Thrasher cover
5) Great video parts from pros with legit style, like Mami, Maria Duran, ....
6) New Pro shoes from Vans & Adidas

Fuck the industry, let’s do it ourselves.

Some initial thoughts

1- Fred Gall wins ever year. He gets a trophy period.

2- The #2 skater is ‘SLAP’s SOTY’

3- We can have a bunch of categories to prevent everything being lumped into a singular, undefinable ‘best’.

Best cinematography, best trick, best part, best pants, etc.

4 -I suspect that industry dudes might pic up on this if we do it, and try to sway the vote by spamming the boards with fake accounts.

I think the best way to avoid this is voting restricted to SLAP PALS.

I think if you release a Spitfire part you are almost guaranteed to get it. They put so much money into marketing this brand for it to stay on top. The F4 wheel is also very solid product to back it up. I remember for a long time though, no one really gave a shit about spitfire (early 2000s). I feel like ANtuwan was one of the first pros i saw really rep it hard
 
T Funk and Pedro are both repping it really hard too though but you would think with T Funk being on Spitfire AND Thunder it would really help his chances. I guess Independent is pretty integral to Thrasher as well. It does look like they are doing a push for Pedro for next year. They might think that T funk has got "enough coverage" or something lol. There is no way they give out this award without considering what it can do for the brands involved.
