Wrong crowd for this:

Avatar 2 blew me away.   Still have issues with high frame rate sequences, but it’s been a long time since I’ve watched a movie and didn’t think about it from a technical standpoint whilst watching it.   Just bought the ticket and took the ride

That movie sucked aside from the visuals

Triangle of Sadness was great!  Super dark comedy about classism.

Hah yes The Guard.   It’s by the brother of the In Bruges writer/director

Banshees if Inishirin is also very good.

i know, i know...i'm yet to see the original actually, but i do dig the Coen brothers' version of it more than most people apparently, and i love that opening scene..."i left my wallet in El Segundo"..."he left what?"

I enjoyed the Coens version as well… certainly wasn’t their best, but pretty funny film.

For Christmas I finally got the criterion collection box set of Dekalog. Can't wait to finally see those.

Also got a Gene Hackman long-sleeve tee.

Stellar Christmas this year

I'm down to watch that too. I watched Blue on HBO Max recently and was thinking of how criminally slept on Kieslowski is.

I didn’t mind it at the time, but maybe it just seemed like a disappointment because it had so many good elements in the mix that didn’t cohere like you’d think it would

But the original and the Lavender Hill Mob, Kind Hearts and Coronets, are some classic Alex Guinness/Ealing British comedies.

Can't remember all of the new movies I watched in 2022 but these three stuck with me so I guess they're my top 3 of 2022:

1. Speak No Evil
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14253846/

2. The Worst Person in the World
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10370710/

3. The Innocents
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4028464/

I never got around to seeing Triangle of Sadness or The Banshees of Inisherin before the year was over. Will have to watch them soon.

For the movie lover who likes to read: Tarantino’s book Cinema Speculation is fucking amazing.   Just tapping into a mind like his as he writes essays about 70s movies is such a fucking treat

Just finished the chapter on the Film Brats.   Kind of dig that there’s no table of contents, but I did see there was a chapter on “what if de Palma directed taxi driver”

Totally cosign. He's no shit a decent essayist. I also read a lotta Pauline Kael when I was getting into film and I can see her influence all over his writing.

Almost finished it.   I love that he’s honest about his tastes too and calls out Paul Shrader on his perceived weaknesses and Scorcese when he’s being disingenuous in interviews, but it’s never from a bitchy place.

I think the OUAT in Hollywood novel is also really good.   My favorite thing about his prose and essays is that it’s conversational but not his own mile a minute style of talking.

Also, has anyone seen Babylon yet?   Fascinated to know what people think.   It’s like Singing in the Rain made at the heigh of 70s masturbatory filming excess

Watched the Menu last night on HBO Max.  Love the trend of taking the piss out of the uber rich lately.

Suprisingly Anya Taylor Joy's least charming role to date, but tons of dark humor throughout.  I'd give it a solid B.

The pale blue eye
Was pretty decent. Wouldn't of gone to the movies to see it but for home viewing can't complain. Nice visuals and acting decent enough story.
