Nice, it's a fun park. Way too crowded though.

Got my first DSLR - took it on a wee holiday to Paris / London. Mostly taking snapshots while I learn but got some stuff I like:

Those are gorgeous. Any tips on star shots? What were your aperture/shutter times looking like for those?

^^^Thanks dude. I actually tried to shoot it somewhat different then I normally do. I usually would shoot like ISO 800 or 1000 and shoot about 20-30 seconds open at about f/12-15. This time I shot at like some crazy ISO at 5000-6400 and shot close to f2.8-f4 to get more stars and left it open maybe about 15-20 seconds but even with the Mark 2 camera, noise just was such an issue on the original shot. If I could do it over again, I'd shoot at my normal settings and use a more manageable ISO. Also set your white balance and tint it blue to get a bluer sky.

Also I even tried doing a star trail photo and left my camera open for 40 minutes and pretty much got a crappy photo and it killed 50% of my battery.

Yeah, I was thinking something like f8-11 or so and a longer exposure (like a minute maybe) with a more manageable ISO, like 400 or so, could work...gotta experiment more. Hard to get star photos through the fog, and I rarely have my DSLR with me when I leave the city.

I wonder what would make for a better star trail photo?

I figured it'd be nice for post #1000 to not be about Dingus McGee's yo flips or whatever...so here are some photos from a recent Sunday up at Point Reyes, enjoying the SF "summer":

so this was influenced by the old Thrasher pic of the dude g turning between the WTC buildings. This is at One Shell Square easily the most recognizeable building in the New Orleans CBD.
