Once I did slipped out on a front board on a flatbar at a park and banged my head.  I stood up and my friend Kevin kept saying “oh fuck, oh fuck” and I put my hand up and it was all blood.  I put my sweatshirt on my face and it was pretty much soaked in blood. Got home super glued it and put a bag of frozen peas on my eye. I had the boxer cut above my eye.  Also pulled a credit card olling a trash can and my balls turned black.  My knees and ankles are fucked and I’ve broke three toes and my foot (landed primo on a nine stair). For what it’s worth in 45 this year.

I also only skate flat ground cause part of me think it’s safer, but there’s still the fear of a freak accident like that happening. Hope you heal up, man 🙏🏾

Fractured my clavicle a few days ago. It didn’t break the skin but there was a jagged lump on my collarbone as soon as it happened. I knew it was broken. The ER doc said it won’t need surgery and should heal in 6 weeks.

Anyway he have any experience with this kind of thing? Tips? I’m finding that it hurts worse than other bones I’ve broken because it’s hard to immobilize. They have me about a weeks worth of pain meds at the hospital but I’m kinda worried that I will run out of them before the pain subsides.

I had it and the pain was sharp first but got better quickly. It‘s important to keep the arm still, they gave me a bandage to keep the shoulders back iirc. If you‘re still in a lot of pain after a week go back to the doctor because this should heal up pretty soon.

Tried to commit to a back 3 yesterday (a trick I’ve never figured out) slammed on my elbow and somehow maybe hairline fractured the top of my hand. They had to send the X-rays to a different expert because the fracture is so small. Waiting for a call back hopefully it’s just a sprain 🤞

Update: had a follow up with a specialist today and it looks like ER doctors were way off base. My shit is fucking wrecked and I’m getting surgery next wednesday.

Been back skating a few months now and still playing it safe. I took more than a year off when I broke my elbow and I’m still trying to shake the fear off. I’m not afraid to slam—I’ve always just laughed it off. But one freakish little injury due to the dumbest shit (a fucking rock wedged in my wheel and forced an uncontrolled powerslide) and I’m still rattled.

Glad to hear that you are getting the proper treatment. I have a plate in my leg that I only notice when I get hit. You probably won’t notice the one on your neck bone. Best of luck.

I need hip Dr. recommendations please. I've had hip pain on the right side for a long time now. When pulling the knee to the chest and then moving back I get a consistent and audible catch in the joint.

I also have sciatica symptoms with burning sensation and hip/leg area seeming to fall asleep. I've tried squats, exercises and stretches for a few months now without improvement and I'm afraid I'm going to make it worse.

I have had groin/hip pain for 1.5 years now. I injured that area by carrying buckets (50-100 times) filled with silt from my dad’s flooded basement up the stairs. I carried with my right hand so my right side developed a tear.

Recently, I read that you don’t want to move the joint too quickly. You want to slowly move your leg into position and hold it there. We may not have the same issue but try holding stretches and doing everything slow.

I can’t really Ollie on flat and I can’t run out of missed tricks on ramps. It’s crazy but I’m slowly getting more range of motion.

Thanks for that, there's a couple stretches in that link I haven't been doing as well. Slow movements getting warmed up makes sense, I'm just getting impatient feeling pain and instability just walking around sometimes. I'm considering getting exercise bands and attempting hip distraction exercises I've seen on YouTube to treat hip impingement.

I think I have jumpers knee….it sucks because I can’t Ollie and have to take time off…

I used to get that when I skated multiple times a week when I was younger. I started using a knee compression sleeve when it was bad which helped and they also have jumpers knee straps that go right below the knee. Taking a few days off helped me as well.

I have jumpers knee too, it sucks but what really helped me is yoga, foam roller and an exercise peddler. I use it while I’m watching tv and it’s worked wonders. You can also use it to strengthen your wrists. Still skate almost every day and I’m hitting 35 in a little over a month

Two and half months since I dislocated my elbow. Been surfing, riding bikes and lifting weights. Feels strong but I sill don't have full mobility. Determined to get there, though. I lie down watching netflix, arm hanging off the couch with a weight stretching the damn thing out. All in all I am feeling good about recovery but the mental toll on my skateboarding confidence is unprecedented. At 48, I guess calculated risks really means calculated risks....

dude the confidence thing is so real... I've been hitting the local mini twice a week and I was getting comfortable again....and then boom, yesterday I had one of those out of nowhere slams on a very ordinary trick. No serious injury fortunately and I still had a good sesh afterwards but it reminded me that even when taking it easy and safe, skating can take you out reeeeeal quick.

I twisted my toe really badly 3/24 and its been 3 months and I still don't have full range of motion without pain. Is that normal? I can walk and honestly mostly skate fine

Toes take forever to heal due to blood circulation and the distance from the heart (from what I was told). Perhaps you fractured it slightly?

started skating again within the last week. just started doing light jump work at PT so i dont pop anything but i do a lot of powerslides and pushing switch. there's a super tiny qp my homie dropped in a bando shopping center so i go there and do lip tricks and do slappies.

it feels really good to cruise around again. i missed skating a lot. all told i was off the board about 9 months w/ 4 surgeries which isnt that bad in the scheme of things.

It really does happen quick, sometimes when you least expect it. Probably because you have your guard down.

My collarbone fracture happened warming up, boardsliding a parking block. Something I could probably do with my eyes closed. But I hit a crack, got pitched, and just wasn’t fast enough to avoid taking 100% of the impact on my shoulder.

Just got my surgery yesterday. Shit hurts worse than it did when I fell right now. I must have been naive because for some reason I expected it to be easy. Nah, turns out it hurts a lot to get hacked open and have some guy drill metal hardware into your bones.

Doc says he expects I’ll be out of the sling in 4 weeks. Anyone had this surgery before? Seems like it’s pretty common. I’m curious about how long it takes an average person to skate afterwards

Good luck with the recovery man!
Post-surgery pain is pretty normal in my experience.... after knee and wrist surgery my shit was real painful for 2 weeks. To the point I had trouble sleeping sometimes.
Never broke a collarbone so I can't say how long recovery/rehab is....But you're probably looking at a 3 months break if you want to be safe and do the rehab fully.
Your incident reminded me of that time I was just skating to the park, hit a pebble or something on the sidewalk and fell headfirst into the bumper of a parked car....Got banged up pretty good before my session even started!

About 6 weeks ago I slammed on my wrist skating the bowl at one of the newer local parks within my first 5 minutes I was warming up to warm up and hung up on a frontside grind for the first time in my life in the shallow end. There was an audible pop and I thought my wrist was broken. It was a tendon injury. I went back the other day and had a mental block that stopped me from getting comfortable warming up. I may never skate there again

@mj23 it might take a while, but that pain will luckily go away. I used to lay in bed swearing I could feel each individual screw in my ankle/leg. It gradually started to hurt less to the point that I didn't even realize it didn't hurt anymore and I couldn't remember the last time it did hurt

Currently both of my knees are feel stiff/sore when bending. I've been trying to keep it mellow for a couple of weeks hoping things would get back to normal, but I need to take a week or two (or maybe longer) fully off the board for them to get better. In the meantime I'm going to try and incorporate some new stretches in my routine

I’ve sort of self diagnosed it but will get some PT next week and see where I’m at.

I’m a bit ahead of you….50 in October and treated the last ten years like it was the LAST ten years…..did all the things I was suppose to do too, might just be 38 years of pushing…..

While I’m on the geriatric tip…..anyone know the turn around time post vasectomy?  I scheduled it around GSD, didn’t want to miss that…..

I twisted/sprained my knee on GSD last week  :-\

Walking better now without a limp, will prob be off board for another 2-3 weeks, but wanted to share this great vid I found on how to help alleviate the inner knee pain and help re-align your knee after a twist like I had. Hope it helps anyone out there with similar knee pain!

On the injury list since thursday.. Skated a a pretty high ramp, slipped out in a bs smith and when I put my foot down I stepped on the board, leg got tucked behind me and sat on it with my weight and fucked my knee up somehow. Hurt like hell, could limp around after and knee felt stable, hurt trying to sleep that night.. Went to a rehab center day after to check it out, got some crutches and a rehab program to get the swelling down. Gonna check it up on tuesday again, and see if an MRI is necessary.

Thank god for Swedish health care. The visit to the rehab center cost me 10$, and each visit will be same amount until I have payed 120$, which is the yearly maximum and then it will bee free for any rehab sessions. The MRI and operation if needed will be free though.

Never had knee problems so this one scares me. Leg/knee is super stuff with limited movement. Doesn't hurt that much when limping around though, and can even stand on it by itself so it feels a bit stable. Does give a sharp pain if bend the leg/twist it where it doesn't want to go right now. Dont know what signs to look for if its bad or not, but doesn't feel good at all.  :-\

First off, you made all the hurt people in this thread that are in the US jealous of that amazing medical care in Sweden.

And second, Im in a similar boat with having a first time knee injury and having this lingering pain since last week. And I’ve also hung up the exact same way before on a mini going for a back smith, but I hurt my ankle (even more) not my knee lol.

That’s good your knee still felt stable and could put some weight on it right after, when I twisted my knee the other day I tried walking it off after and my knee felt super wobbly and like it was collapsing, couldn’t walk at all unless I hopped on one foot. But now 1.5 weeks later Im walking better now and the pain/tenderness isn’t as bad, so with that sweet rehab you’re on, should hopefully be good and recovering well without surgery!

Hoping for a speedy recovery man!

Leg curls
Leg lifts
Extensions and squats
Swimming

That’s how I rehabbed my hyper extended knee and I couldn’t bend my knee after I hurt it. Took me two months before I could skate again but 3-4 years until I didn’t hurt my knee on mistimed bails.

But now 1.5 weeks later Im walking better now and the pain/tenderness isn’t as bad, so with that sweet rehab you’re on, should hopefully be good and recovering well without surgery!

Hoping for a speedy recovery man!

Thanks! Gives me a little hope its not hopeless. And speedy recovery to you to!
