I think it's worth considering the context as well. For instance, I see jocky teens at the skatepark who basically wear Under Armor/Nike/Etc. baggy trunks every day of their lives. I'm sure they also wear them to the beach.
Puig is a scenario where he wears what is generally appropriate attire for an adult man. i.e. he would not get married with a beanie and skate shoes on.
For years I only wore tight shredded jeans everywhere, including jumping in the ocean, because I thought was lame to own more than one pair of pants at a time. Now I am an adult, and wear swim shorts with a 2 1/2" inseam at the beach.
