I'm listening through your catalogue in the office today. It might get me fired but I don't care. (kidding...this is good stuff! just way more aggressive than I usually play at my desk)
What do you use to create? Is this done by computer, or do you use outboard gear?
thank you
fl studio with a midi controller or just my keyboard as a midi device as of now. i actually might have to sell my midi controller for the time being
it's a nectar impact 61 keys, it's just way too big. i might get a nicer smaller one for the value that doesn't bother me that much. i end up not using it a lot of times because it's unwieldy to set up in my living space. 49 keys would be perfect for my desk setup.
i'm trying to get more cool gear, but i'm always broke. i'd love to have some sort of hardware synth that would take me out of trying endless presets on random plugins until i find something.
so right now i use software synths like vital and surge, i like these a lot. surge is pretty hard to control, but vital is pretty intuitive and i usually pick a preset that sounds similar to what i have in mind, play around with it until i like what i hear basically. a few months ago i had no idea what i was doing when i would turn all those knobs but now all those concepts relating to filters and such have become familiar and i have some sort of grasp of how to manipulate a waveform.
i really need some audio interface so i can record guitar, bass and maybe vocals.
had an mpd that i sold and miss a lot now, i might get a used 218.
so pretty barebones atm. but what's cool about it is that because i am just used to using software and my pc keyboard, setting all parameters manually, i don't feel restricted too much without all that gear. i am not a good piano or keyboard player, so i often have to go into that pattern and shove notes to the right spot anyways, or fiddle with panning and velocity. so for me right now it works. it sometimes feels less like making music and more like filling out a spreadsheet, until you hear the result that is.
i really would like to check out tracker software. i usually really enjoy music done on that and it seems like a fun way for someone with severe autism brain like me to make beats and also there's good free software that looks fucking dope, too.
