The Greatest Standalone Video Parts
« on: December 03, 2020, 02:51:03 PM »
I'm looking to make a collection of all the greatest standalone video parts, ie parts that were released on their own, not part of a larger project. So I hope peeps can help by contributing to this thread of all the best ones, the ones that stood out at the time, or just any that are sick and worth mentioning. Could be from any time since the trend began (P-rod?) or even earlier if there are some (Was Kalis the first?). Links to parts would be sick but if you just wanna list names then that's all good. I'll start off with some random ones I can think of.

Brent Atchley was the earliest I can remember (February 2006)

The Shane O'Neill pro part that the Berrics charged everyone three dollars for (May 2010)

Dylan, obviously. This really set the groundwork for the media takeover that comes with a solo part, the skater's mentality of "I'm gonna do my own thing," and high production values for a single part. (August 2010)

Torey Pudwill's Big Bang - all of the above applies, but it was done through Thrasher and is a forerunner to the SOTY blitz that the award became.

Mark Suciu Cross Continental - to me, this was the last solo part to really have a massive impact, the way PJ Ladd's part did, before everything went all online. Suciu went from zero to hero with this one and I remember Thrasher even made a point to include a layout in a print issue dedicated to the part.

Most of Yuri's parts are awesome, to be honest.

Bobby DeKeyzer recent Quasi part was a gem.

Maybe not greatest but some personal faves are Joey Guevaras two Miguel Valle parts, Pyramid of the Sun and Atlas.

I watched the shit out of this part. definitely the first part I saw that was HD. at the time the vibe was "whoa Ty is so innovative for not using VXs!" I still love that band of horses song.

Damn that's a throwback. I always had it in my head that this was the start of the solo part trend, but you're right it was the start and luckily end of Berra's latest wild idea of selling video parts online

I liked this part and it’s crazier in hindsight that this dude dropped one part then fell off the face of the earth.

I'll always consider Dylan's part to be the true "start" of this trend but it's pretty crazy to think that, for a brief moment, selling video parts online and in the iTunes store was a norm.

Obviously, as we approach the present day there are literally hundreds of Standalone parts per year, so it is fun to look back a decade or so to see the innovators. We're there any others besides Kalis in Mono that we're pre-internet release?

Obviously P-Rod, Dylan, and Pudwills were pretty early. I remember this one really standing out:
Brandon Westgate - New Shoe, New Part - for Emerica in January 2011

Also dropping on the interweb in January 2011 is our boy Freddy Gall with his Worst Skater of the Year part for Low Card:

What are some others from 2010, 2011, 2012?

Yeah, i fuck with that p rod part too. He does some legally questionably tricks but I don't really mind in this case.

An obvious contender is Dylan's Gravis part.

Cory Kennedy's Bellingham part is another one that stands out.

I always heard that Kalis in Mono was the first one, but if that Brent Atchley part was released in Feb 2006 it's possible that it came first- Skatevideosite says 2006 for Kalis in Mono but other sources are saying 2005.
