Putting in another plug for the Dern brothers.

When their videos popped up on my algorithm I was immediately dismissive. The titles sucked ("Skating El Toro in 2022!?"), the thumbnails with the Hot Topic looking brother was a turn off, and I'm generally skeptical of siblings who market themselves as "The X Brothers."

There is so much skate YouTube junk out there I assumed this would be the same low quality, low effort stuff with clickbate titles.

I was very wrong.

These videos are lengthy because the brothers are skate nerds and historians who know their stuff and pay homage to every major trick at historic spots. They seem to know every trick even those in obscure videos and welcome their viewers to correct them or add things. They actually travel to the spots, sometimes even skate the spot (drop in at Encinitas Sign!), and get actual interviews with the people that did the tricks. In the Encinitas Sign ep they get a surprisingly wholesome interview with Bam. I could easily see a week+ worth of work dropped into these episodes.

Anyway, I'm a subscriber now and hope they stay at it and the series gets bigger. It's definitely a benchmark series for me.

I back these dudes, they do their research and do a thorough job. I appreciate they include tricks by locals that I'd never seen.

Something that bothered me in this video about the UC Davis gap was the story at 5:06

If you're Decenzo and you're trying FS flip...and someone calls you and says stop doing that trick, I'm gonna do a kickflip down it soon....do you actually stop trying for FS flip? Hell no...two totally different tricks. If that story is true (I don't trust much of what the Duffman says) and if it was Reynolds who made that call since he's the one with the kickflip, that would be kooky behavior...speculatin'

I love that they skate the spot afterwards. So unnecessary to melon an 18-stair but hey why the fuck not.

Agreed, the two brothers look like your average 00's rail chopper and the hot topic bro Destin makes me feel better about my own fashion choices.

Also this is one of if not the best sk8 channel right now. informative and entertaining

dechenzo has done some of the biggest flip tricks ever. watching these eps too has shown that kanaan has been killing it under the radar for years. is he the only one who's skated the rail against the wall? an 18 stair against-the-wall 5-0 is absolutely trucked up. probably the biggest against the wall grind ever done. I wonder what happened with vans...

what makes this series so sick is that dalton and kanaan actually skate the spots they're featuring, and the spots they feature are gnarly ass spots. its one thing to do a vlog ass video about a spot, but it's another thing to get a trick on the spot too. put some respeck on the dern bros name!

I hadn't heard of these guys and don't typically watch much of the YouTubers. No problem with it I just can't keep up with parts as it is. Just watched the oceanside hubba episode and it was awesome. That fuckin slam by Duff will be with me for life.
