Putting in another plug for the Dern brothers.
When their videos popped up on my algorithm I was immediately dismissive. The titles sucked ("Skating El Toro in 2022!?"), the thumbnails with the Hot Topic looking brother was a turn off, and I'm generally skeptical of siblings who market themselves as "The X Brothers."
There is so much skate YouTube junk out there I assumed this would be the same low quality, low effort stuff with clickbate titles.
I was very wrong.
These videos are lengthy because the brothers are skate nerds and historians who know their stuff and pay homage to every major trick at historic spots. They seem to know every trick even those in obscure videos and welcome their viewers to correct them or add things. They actually travel to the spots, sometimes even skate the spot (drop in at Encinitas Sign!), and get actual interviews with the people that did the tricks. In the Encinitas Sign ep they get a surprisingly wholesome interview with Bam. I could easily see a week+ worth of work dropped into these episodes.
Anyway, I'm a subscriber now and hope they stay at it and the series gets bigger. It's definitely a benchmark series for me.
