I've noticed some concerns about the way the  808is designed.

My shoe collar is blown out already from my grip. The leather should go a few milli higher making the interior less exposed.

The toe box doesn't need that extra leather over the big toe.

If you're wearing a hole through that part of the shoe when kickfliping probably should get your ankles looked at.

It's point is probably to give illusion of indestructible toe box. Or cosmetic. The extra leather does not help my poor big toe.

The reality is it's a waste of material that could have been used as a potential collar fix.

The Ollie area is working out perfect for me rn. But eventually I'm going to be god damning the lil swoosh and points in the Ollie guard.

It's not decorative. Shoe companies want you to think that. The thing is no one wants to give you a shoe that last 6+ months.
It's bad for business. They want you to burn that Ollie areas up as fast as possible.

If this shoe had that little gap in Ollie guard filled they wouldn't sell as many.

The black rubber part of the sole is already starting to fall out.

That's my main concern. I've had this happen with other weirdo shoes. I will be contacting NB if it continues.

I'll fuckin show up at the offices and get my voice heard of I gotta.

ML come out with your hand up and bring the 2 pairs you now owe me.

The "material over the big toe" is what we at NB have historically called the toe wiggle. It is not so much there for function as it is a nod to NB's aesthetic heritage. If you look at pretty much any NB running shoe over the years, you will see that wiggle of material over the big toe.

Cool I hadn't noticed. Thanks

I want to like the 480 but darn they’re uncomfortable.

I'm in the same boat. The arch area is a tad too narrow.

Yup, I have the same issue.

What colorway did you guys try?
I have both the Rust and the Reynolds and when I first tried on the Rust I was super bummed, one of the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever tried on. I really like them so I stuck with them and wore them around the house for like 2-3 days until they broke in, they're good now. The Reynolds color I haven't worn but just trying them on straight out of the box they feel much better than the Rust.

Middle of the Reynolds felt a bit tight for the first 30min of wearing them and were perfect fit after that.  Went TTS

I tried on the Reynolds and the suede are noticeably better than leather for me in terms of flex. I don't know how- maybe a thinner upper allows the sole to flex more? It was night and day wearing the rust on the other foot. I really wish NB made more suede versions as I'd consider trying them again.

Adding to this in what high wear/impact sport do shoes last 6 months? In running, rock climbing, and lots of ball sports you're lucky to get that much out of a pair. Most normal shoe soles won't last that long. There's a reason why- materials that would last that long wouldn't be as performant. The 808 is probably the most durable shoe on the market and the 1010 is likely a close second right now. They have pushed durability as far as they can go while maintaining incredibly functional shoes.

I'm fully hooked. Things that haven't worked in 20 years are starting to become possible again.

The closest thing I've had to this is my AF2 with a gamechager insole.

Even then the toe shape wasn't quite there.

I would say this shoe has everything except the small complaints I made before.

If I can I'm going to only buy these af2s and the occasional fast break or dunk. CTS pros are also my jam again too can't forget that.

I think I'm over vans slips. I love them. I can skate good in them but I cannot land primo in them anymore. I don't wanna stop flipping my bloard ever in my life. And I was holding myself back for fear of getting hurt and giving up.

In these shoes I got more than flat gaps. I could definitely jump on a rail. I could definitely do more than and 8 stair gap if I had some game changers in.

Im so impressed with how protected my feet are I've been thinking of trying to do primo sliders maybe.

This is a major change in mentality. I always thought primo sliders were for low style high tech people only. I would like to m80 into a primo slide. I bet that no one's done that

Last weekend I was in my hometown and stopped by the shop there and picked up some 574 Vulcs . I skated them for the first time today and very happy with them, the front of the shoe has a roomy width and the rear is a little slimmer- so probably not great for people with wide feet but it may be worth a try.  They maintain pretty good boardfeel while still being a more supportive Vulc. Definitely more of a padded sole than than the 440’s which I liked but had to switch out the insole of another shoe so my feet could handle it.

Just thought I’d share, as besides a few pages back where someone was raving about these, I don’t see them mentioned a lot and I think they hit a sweet spot of being a vulc that isn’t paper thin, which is a struggle of mine.

Hope these continue to skate well and hold up and I definitely found something that works for me.

Dunkin is a junk heap now. My biggest gripe is how it is seemingly impossible for them to produce a cup that doesn’t leak.

listened to a great podcast the other day and they mentioned how nb (like all brands imo) have had inconsistent quality in materials.
i’ve been extolling the virtues of the 1010s, had the grey mesh, and the beef and broccoli ones. the latter being truly excellent. around that time i bought something like 4-5 pairs of dunks and broke out some 92 uprise halfcabs and left nb’s alone, whilst confidently extolling their virtues here.
‘twas a good reminder for me to be a bit more mindful, and uh, current.

Anyone tried the 440 Trails?

I want a winter shoe, not to skate in but skate inspired is always good. I have good hiking shoes... but I'd use these for some light hikes, shitty PNW weather, walking through the woods a bit, surf checks, ... blah blah...

Anyway, there are some out there for some pretty deep discount (ahem... Daddies20)....

Also, how's the fit? I wear a 12 in the regular low top 440s... but 11.5 in 212/ 213s...

Got some of the Tom Knox 600s.  Although they look like the 288 Sport kind of they don't feel like it at all.  Feels more like combo of 440/1010.  Pretty thick heel which I'm not stoked on.  Haven't skated them yet though.  Seem TTS and are pretty comfy.

How’s the forefoot? Is it thin there like the 440s? That’s the only thing that would stop me from buying them. I don’t like the vulc feel.

The forefoot in the 600 seems slightly thicker than the 440.
