Looks weak. Bad animations.
Looks like it was a kickastarter?

the demo's been out for a year or so and i've heard good things about the gameplay
-
I'm divided since these guys really seem to aim in the right direction, but it's sorta ruined by the choppy animations weird gravity and character graphics. It looks like skate 3, eight years later.. There's some really cool details in there though, i hope they manage to upgrade what's wrong.
-
Stoked and at the same time really worried about the weak animations.
It just looks bad at the moment...
-
Apparently it’s not going to be for ps4 so looks like I’m not going to be playing it.
-
Everything I've heard so far is that it's still in the "pre pre alpha" stage of development, and what we're seeing now is mostly placeholder animations so people can test the controls. That said, kinda worries me they showed it at e3 with those animations. Hope they really come through with something worthwhile, they've got a lot of backers on kickstarter and they've got the right vision for the game I think.
-
whats going on with that front blunt 3 flip thing?
stoked that they are trying, not stoked that it looks bad.
-
I actually backed it awhile ago and played it but the controls are really uncomfortable honestly.
-
It's been nothing but "demos" and staged cutscene shit like this from these guys for years. I'll believe it when I have it installed on my hard drive.
-
Eh, I wasn’t a fan of skate and by judging this video I probably won’t be a fan of this either. I miss THPS.
-
new interview up on Jenkem with one of the creators
http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2018/06/22/whats-deal-session-new-skateboarding-video-game/
-
The animation looks like some Xbox 360 stuff, which whatever it's fine I'm sure it can be smoothed out before the release. What's weird to me though was the interview on Jenkem. Maybe I'm being cynical but it just seemed like the dude was eager to please, like "Oh yeah for sure we will add all of that! It's gonna be in there, anything you want!" It just reminds me of when you're younger and there's the weird kid who will do whatever you tell them to do because they so badly want to be popular.
"Hey Marcus, we'll like you if you eat a handful of rocks"
"Okay you got it dudes, gonna eat these rocks, yep I'm gonna!"
I want to be wrong though, to be clear I hope I'm totally wrong and this thing ends up being fucking mind-blowing. Until then like SFB said, I'll believe it when I see it.

How can this game be any good if this guy is the transition motion capture guy as per reached goal on kickstarter

I agree with you on this. I too am just hoping for the best, seeing as how it does seem to be our only hope for a good modern skateboarding game. Side note: Skater for mobile is actually really fun. The controls and physics are pretty amazing for a mobile game, great time waster if nothing else.
-
I haven't played the demo yet so I can't really say jack shit, but from watching the trailer this game looks like it's still too easy just like Skate 3. I want to struggle super hard for something as simple as flipping out of a trick. I hope this game delivers, I'm wishing the best for the creators.

Nah, the controls for this game are a bit more complex which takes out the fun factor in my opinion. But I guess some people will enjoy how challenging it can be.
-
Ive got huge problems with how this is panning out as most people have already covered. Basically I think theyre getting ahead of themselves. The game has been out too long in pre alpha with terrible animations and rigid controls. Theres no flow to this game and theyre burying themselves in ‘reality’ and trying to please everyone.
The E3 thing is a year too early and I think finessing this game is out of their grasp and until i see a technically solid operating model im assuming this’ll be a miss which sucks.
Theres a BMX game called BMX Pipe and one dude has made it and the physics are spot on. He made a small environment and sold it and it was a perfect proof of concept he is making into a full game. Session hasnt gotten close to that while promising more and more all the time.
I want to be proven wrong
-
Asking for a friend here...if a new skateboard game were to be made what would you want to be different than THPS or Skate?
-

I think the controls are slightly different than skate and Tony can’t make a new THPS. All I know is the session game has amazing looking back smiths . The rest seems glitchy and doesn’t flow super well animation wise but I have high hopes none the less. In this day and age they could sell a map or two with the original game for $30 and add more maps and tricks and challenges as $5 DLC and they would cool with me .
-
Don't worry too much about this game, because it's never coming out.
-
I've honestly had a good amount of fun with it. It's cool how you flick the board and it spins till you actually catch it. That's way better than 'press triangle to tre flip.'
All current animations are placeholder. Really excited to see the next build. But it's true they are promising the moon and idk how far they will actually take it, but it seems they are really working hard not just taking the Kickstarter money and running.
-
They seem to have the right idea but I'm heavily second guessing them based on the trick selection that they have featured in the trailers. I mean, everything has been like laserflip noseblunt tre flip or some other unflattering combo... Skate 1 killed it by mocapping Carroll. Rockstar should just surprise everyone and make a new Thrasher game
-
It looks more like a simulation game.
Dunno if it's what people want.
Think of how a COD player would feel trying out ARMA.
-
nobody wants a fun game
most of us want a sim

How can this game be any good if this guy is the transition motion capture guy as per reached goal on kickstarter
IDK I personally look forward to rocking out on the mega ramp.
-
I've played the demo a fair bit. It's good. The controls take a minute to get used to coming from skate. It's a bit clunky and needs some serious polish. Like, the skating doesn't feel anywhere near the realism of Skate, and it's supposed to be more realistic. Like I say: needs polish.
-
had to look this up and see if there was any new footage and found this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Oqk7xGz7ZE
by the time this game comes out, well already be in the next gen of consoles and this game will look as appealing as 720 for nes.
-
it still looks weak
and they keep on apologizing about the animations and physics, prealpha version blabla...
Aren't these the first aspects you should work on before going further ?
-
it's not unusual to have placeholder animations until a fairly late build. i guess it makes sense since they are still adding stuff like late flips/free catching and have they figured out how to implement wallies? i played the demo a bunch and once i got the controls down it was pretty fun, but you can't wallride or wallie stuff.
i also found out, that you can bone out your ollies and kickflips over things when you flip a stick back mid air like you would do a little manual.

Huh. Learn something new every day.

So far I've learned that this game is probably never going to come out, and I'm not sure if it'll even be worth it, if it does.

Its definitely coming out, it supposed to have an early access for the backers for springs.
They had a lot of changes in the core team, and the game it self. I guess Skater XL put some pressure on them.
But the guys work their asses off on it. They just don't want to put out a game half finished.
-
Between this one and Skater XL, one of them better deliver. If not the hopes of a bigger budget skategame (like Skate 4) will be nill. If not already.
The one thing I feel with all the early builds and developer updates: it creates more negativity than hype. Would rather see a proper teaser/trailer once a year.

It seems like the Skater XL modding community is giving the devs a LOT to live up to, haha. Hope they don't crack under the pressure!
-
Skater XL is already fun, they just need to tighten it up & add more tricks & variations. Heck, I just want to be able to slap into wall rides, do wallies, slappies, laybacks and have them feel solid. Make the small game fun. I also want it to feel fast, loose and fun just to be dicking around on the board, no game has really got that right. Skate was the closest out of any of these.

Wallrides were confirmed to be in older versions of the game and will make a comeback eventually, at least that's what the testing team have said in their Twitch streams.

both are 2 very indy games. means small budget. they will not have the same help and budget like EA Skate used to.
By the way, Session gave an update to their backers this week end.

I think it was mostly minor animation tweaks, nothing really exciting honestly.

Rad, as long as it's a mechanic that can transpose to wallies, small curbs as well as big walls. Dont want to have to ollie into wall rides, and that same thing could be used to do slappies n stuff.

What if it was a modifier like the button for nollie in thps. Hold L1 and ride at something and you wallride

I've had a lot of fun with the backer skatepark. Can't wait to see all of the new animations in place.
Its been a few years since I've been hyped for a game and now there's session, borderlands 3, and death stranding all at once!

Wish they had more budget for their games... i’m not talking about AAA games, just enough money to hire more people and work in better conditions. Don’t know what the deals are but i’m tired of big companies trying to make profit of already crowdfunded indie games.
by the way i’m looking forward to play these two, I want a skateboarding game so bad, but i’m a PS4 owner so..

Hi guys!
in the celebration of the release of SESSION early access (meaning the game is at 20% to finished)on the steam platform. We've produced an 22min mini documentary about the creator's game. Along a full interview on our website.
Have fun with the game!

Nice. Building a pc is so satisfying. Feel free to add me on steam @ green_wedges. I've been playing borderlands 3 so if you plan on getting that let's co-op.

hell ya, just sent you a request!
So I finally got home and played around with this game for about an hour or so. It's definitely hard, which is kinda thrilling because my favorite memories of the Skate games were actually just learning how to play. The flip trick mechanic is actually pretty intuitive with most of the challenge coming from trying to curb your muscle memory from Skate lol. Ledges and rails are really awkward but I've figured out how to do basic tricks like 5-0s or crooks. Being early access, it's pretty buggy and it's crashed on me twice, but overall I think there's a really cool concept behind this and I'm really excited to see it further fleshed out.
I posted a couple lines on my Insta story if anyone wants a point of reference. @pizzafliptofakie (which is also my Steam name, if anyone wants to be Steam friends. ;) )

I decided to create a video comparing trick animations from Session, Skate 3 and Skater XL if anyone is interested...

Destiny 2 will be free to play October 1st. It’s not on steam but is moving there at that time I guess. Just an FYI. It’s actually pretty good. I got it for free a year ago and never played until like this past week and actually like it. I’m not sure if you have played game on pc before.

cool video, but you are comparing 2 unfinished games with skate3. Session is only 20% to be finished. animations and mechanics are still in works.
That said, the only thing that you can see, is how unrealistic is skate3, the pop is way to high.

Here’s what I picked

I’m pretty illiterate when it comes to computer specs but I did my homework on this one and it’s treating me great.
Good looks on Destiny 2 though! I played the first one and felt kinda ripped off by it, but I hear the second one solves a lot of grievances so I’m willing to check it out. Especially for free.

Thats a pretty decent build. Good call on the 75hz monitor. I got one early this year after playing on a tv for 3 years and it felt like I got a whole new computer.
My girlfriend just bought a prebuilt 2 weeks ago and got a 75hz monitor over the weekend. We’ve been playing a ton.
Yeah I hated the first destiny. This second one is good and looks really nice. I’ve enjoyed it but holding off until it’s free to play to play with my girlfriend. You can get games cheap off G2A.com. It’s like people who sell game keys.

HOW TO FUCK DO YOU PLAY THIS ON XBOX ADN WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO SKATER XL
Skater XL just got a beta release, it looks a little more polished now, you can do grabs and pumps, new park and there are some minor character customization.
